During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

I like to keep a couple tumblers in the fridge at work. That way I’ve always got cold water ready. When I’m done with one, I just refill it and take a cold one out! It’s always a race for the clock to make sure it’s still nice and cool by the time it’s empty ?
I always drink from a large tumbler (with a straw!) and make sure I fill up when I go to the bathroom at work!
I have a large water bottle that I take in to work with me. My daily goal is drink 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I also like to add crystal light for some flavor 🙂
I carry a Brita water bottle so I can have fresh water anywhere I go!
In the summer, It’s all about COLD fresh water! In the winter, I have a stash of tons of herbal tea flavors at my desk – that helps me drink water all day when it’s chilly outside.
I carry my water bottle everywhere! It really helps when it’s right next to me all the time.
I work in a office and I also follow the rule to always refill my water bottle every time I use the restroom. Drinking more = more bathroom breaks, ha!
I start every morning with a tall glass of water!
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is chug 10 giant gulps of water. I continue to take giant gulps of water throughout the day, and end with a mug of hot lemon water in the evening to fight off colds and relax. 🙂
I drink vitamin water or crystal light when I’m bored of plain water.
I use a big tervis filled with ice and a straw!
I set a timer on my computer when I’m working, so I get up every hour to stretch my legs a little and refill my water and ice. It helps to have fresh ice water, because once it gets warm, I’m less likely to drink it all.
I think having a fun water bottle is the best motivator for me to stay hydrated.
Having some type of flavor, especially lemons, in my water is a must for staying hydrated.
I try to fill up my water bottle each night before I go to bed that way in the morning, it’s cold and ready for me to start guzzling! I also try to drink a few big gulps any time I use the restroom throughout the day. It really helps!!
I always drink a big glass of water first thing in the morning! I also make sure to get a good workout in daily, which means lots of water!
I have a big tumbler I bring to work and try to fill it up at least twice. I also incorporate seltzer water if I need some fizz!
i like to squeeze lemon in my water or add a few drops of grapefruit essential oil ( food grade). So good and refreshing!
Ohmygosh Polar Seltzer in all their fantastic flavors! Otherwise I just make my own sparking water with my soda stream. Makes water a little more exciting 🙂
I feel the same! Can’t get enough water now that I am pregnant! I try to drink a lot in the morning by adding flavor and I drink from a straw! You’re right! It helps a lot!
In the winter months I try to drink 3-4 cups of tea! It warms me up AND ups my water intake!
I bring two 32 oz water bottles everywhere and try to finish one every three hours-ish!
I try to always have my camelbak with me at work and to keep it full!
I use a water bottle with hours makes on the side that notes how much I should drink by that time. It’s great but no straw. Love having a straw.
I agree, having a large water bottle with a straw definitely gets me to drink a lot more water than I usually would!
My husband and I compete to see who drinks more H2O a day!
I like to use large water bottles also, plus it helps to add some ice.
Drink at least one glass of water with every meal!
I have a big 32 Oz bottle that is marked in 2hr increments. It hivesme a goal to work towards and I have found I drink way more water this way. And yes a straw makes it so much easier to drink water!!
Getting a water filter has helped me want to drink more! It tastes better and I don’t worry about what nasty stuff is in there.
I’m nursing a 4 month old and have to keep a pitcher of water on the side table so I can keep refilling my glass. Have to stay hydrated!
I vary as much as I can by drinking seltzer or adding a splash of juice or adding limes!
I have a 32 ounce nalgene that I try to finish before 2pm. Then I try to finish at least another half or more before bed. I like watching the amount of ounces in the water bottle drop because it makes me feel good and fuels me to finish the bottle!
I use Young Living Essential Oils to help perk up the flavor of my water. I make sure to fill up a couple of times a day. Would love to win!!
Always have my water bottle with me
I use a straw too and it works!!! Still struggle to get in enough throughout the day when I get busy though.
I always bring my water bottle in the car with me so I can sip while driving the kids to all their activities!
I love COLD water. I live in the south and it’s hot so the colder the better. I have a water container with a spout in my fridge. I can easily refill my water bottle all day to keep hydrated. As a new mom I can’t seem to get enough water and liquid!
I pretty much always have a water bottle with me, which makes it easier to stay hydrated. I also recently started drinking La Croix sparkling water–it’s nice to mix it up and they have fun flavors!
I love to add lemon, cucumber & mint to my water!
I try to drink out of a straw most of the time too! It really makes it so much easier for some reason. Haha but I also like to set goals throughout the day of making sure I drink a certain amount by lunchtime, or midafternoon, or whatever. It makes 8 cups seem a little more manageable. 🙂
I try to set a water goal and stick to it–like two big bottles per day.
I try to drink flavored seltzer when I’m having a hard time drinking water
I try to drink 80+ oz of water a day so I’m sort of in the habit of always filling up my water bottle. A straw makes it much easier for me and I also like to add lemon or cucumbers.
I’ve been slacking in the water department, I usually try and drink a big glass in the morning. To mix it up I mix lemonade and sparkling water when I need some bubbles!
I’m a big iced tea fan, and most days I’ll stop before work and get a large unsweetened one.I spend the rest of the day refilling the cup. Even during the winter I like cooler drinks, so I always have a pitcher of Crystal Light at the ready!
I make sure to have a water bottle with me everywhere I go, especially when I leave the house so I can refill anywhere! Like you I make sure to refill every time I go to the bathroom.
I do the same thing you do! Also keeping a large water bottle at my desk while working and you don’t even notice how much you’re hydrating! I notice on the weekends I get much thirstier because I’m sitting near a full large waterbottle!
I try to keep a tumbler full of water at all times so that I can sip on it throughout the day! I sometimes add lemon or fruit for a nice little treat!
When I started my first real job in August, the first thing I did was purchase a 24 oz cup to use at my firm’s water coolers. I also take full advantage of the fact that the water cooler has a hot water feature by mixing hot and cold water because I don’t like super cold water!
