During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

Use a large water bottle!
I’m guilty of owning 5 cute water bottles to encourage me to drink more water!
I keep my Camelbak water bottle with me always. I’ve also noticed that tracking my water intake on MyFitnessPal has made me much more aware of the amount of water I drink!
Love these tips!
I actually have a 32 ounce reusable bottle that I wrote the hours on corresponding to ounce lines. It’s a good reminder that by 11am I should have consumed (at least) ‘x’ ounces. I also always drink an 8 ounce glass of water upon waking up!
I love to drink a cup of water first thing when I wake up-it gets me in the groove for water all day!
Definitely just always making sure I have a water cup/bottle next to me…its the first thing I fill up at work, and when I get home at night, and I always carry a water bottle or empty bottle so I can fill up. It took awhile to catch on but now its just a habit and I catch myself constantly mindlessly drinking!
I make it a goal to empty my Nalgene water bottle at work at least 3 times before I go home. Most days it works. I also supplement with tea (lots of tea!) in the colder months. Thank you for this great giveaway!
I stay hydrated by giving myself deadlines. For example, by 9:00am I need to have drank 27 ounces of water and I mark that many ounces on the side of a huge water jug so when 9am comes, I can chug it if I haven’t been drinking as well as I should. 🙂
A while back, my husband bought me a 40oz purple (my favorite color) water bottle that has a straw after I complained to him that I don’t like to waste time opening a water bottle to drink out of it. This sits on my desk right in front of me and I always find myself drinking it because it is there. My goal is to drink at least 2 full water bottles a day which really adds up when the water bottle is so big to begin with. In the hot summer months, I add frozen strawberries to cool it down and add a little flavor.
In the winter, I drink a lot of hot tea in the evenings. To keep things healthy, I drink an herbal blend and don’t add any sugar. It’s so cozy drinking a warm beverage on a cold night, and helps me get my fluid intake up!
I keep my water bottle right beside me on my desk at work all day!
Drink tons of water
I never go anywhere without a big bottle of water!
The older I get the more I realize how important hydration is. I especially notice if I am dehydrated when i work out, I just cant push as hard. This is why my water bottle is pretty much attached at my hip. When i go to the grocery store i bring it, at work I have it on my desk and it is a good reminder to get up and walk to the kitchen each time it is empty. Having an easy pop up top water bottle or a water bottle with a straw keeps me drinking and staying hydrated throughout the day.
I have a glass of water when I wake up, usually driving to the gym. That gets me started!
I’m with you on the straws 100%
Also, I keep a tumbler at my desk at work – I’m way more hydrated on week days than weekends! Works all the time.
I have a 40oz hydroflask, it keeps my water ice cold and I try to drink at least 2 per day.
I used to be one of those people that barely drank water – I hated it and wished I could get into it. My New Year’s Resolution this year was to drink my 8 glasses or more per day. I’m happy to say that I am now in LOVE with water. I drink a gallon or more per day and I just crave it constantly. My body feels so much better, too! I start every morning with 8oz of hot water with half a lemon squeezed into it. I love this giveaway and am always looking for more water bottles so I can take them everywhere I go!
I always make sure to have a big water bottle with me
I don’t seem to have a problem keeping myself hydrated year round at work, as I have been know to drink a few gallons a day. I struggle with water on the weekends, if I do not keep a full water bottle by my like you suggested, I see to forget! I would say the best way to stay hydrated is ti just make sure you have water or whatever your beverage of choice is around at all times!
To stay hydrated all year long I fill 2 water bottles in the morning and take them with me to work. I like your idea to refill every time I go to the bathroom. Before going to the gym I fill the bottles again and drink one in spin class and the other on the way home from the gym.. I do get tired of drinking plain water and love the idea of the infuser!
Always have my water bottle with me. I like adding lemons and berries to mine!
I bought the liter size camel back, and having a huge water bottle with the straw mechanism absolutely helps me to drink more water throughout the day!
I prefer to drink carbonated water but I try to drink at least one Nalgene before I can open up a can of carbonated. It helps me drink more!
In the summer I tend to drink iced coffee (and many ounces of it!) and seem to forget to drink water afterwards. However, if I drink hot coffee, I’m guzzling water the rest of the day! I try to switch to hot coffee soon after the temps cool down to keep my hydration up in the cooler weather.
I have water bottles EVERYWHERE. Next to my bed, in my car, in my workout bag, and on my desk. I just bought a new one for my desk with a straw because I thought it was easier to drink out of. I also quit ordering pop at lunch, water with lemon only these days!
I don’t have a system because it is just a habit to keep sipping on water!! I drink constantly throughout the day. I have a 24 ounce Nalgene bottle and I keep it filled all day! If water was addicting, I’d be an addict!
I start out with warm lemon water and then always have a tumbler of cold water beside me throughout the day.
I take my Camelbak water bottle with me everywhere!
Hi I trying keep a glass with a straw at My desk
I keep a plastic cup with straw with me at all times and add a little fruit juice and ice to water to give it flavor.
The tap water at work tastes strange so I keep a Brita pitcher in the work fridge. Not only do I drink more, but so do all my co-workers!
I bring one of my tervis cups wherever I go. Usually there is one in the car, at my desk at work and on the counter at home.
I have a favorite large water bottle that I take with me everywhere – my goal is to drink and refill it 3 to 4 times a day, which usually does the trick 🙂 This giveaway would be perfect because my boyfriend and his family tend to drink only from plastic water bottles and I’d love to give him some awesome reusable ones! And infused water is the BEST.
I always bring a filled nalgene bottle (4 cups) and a thermos of tea (2 cups). I try to finish both before I leave work and after a drink with dinner, that makes just about 8!
It’s funny your post was about hydration because I was reading this in the paper this morning. Coffee keeps us hydrated too!

I keep my water bottle with me at all times so that I just sip while doing other things. I also eat watery fruits to get extra hydration.
I fill my class with lots of ice so the water is very cold and refreshing!
I use a water bottle that has times written on the sides. It really gives me a visual as to where I should be in my water intake for the day. When I fall behind in time, I start chugging to catch up to where I need to be at that point in the day!
I have a Camelbak that I keep at my desk and I also have a Brita pitcher in my apartment that stays full!
I can totally relate to the straw thing! It’s just easier! I try to set little goals, like 2 bottles before noon;)
Straw cup for the win! I have the “totally basic” Starbucks straw cup that I have not once used at Starbucks. It’s great for work though!
I take my water bottle everywhere with me and often add a slice of lemon to change it up. It helps when the bottle stands in front of you all day!
I stay hydrated by always having my waterbottle with me – and when I’m at my desk – open and right in front of me.
Straws- yes!
As a Pilates instructor I have to talk a lot which keeps me extra thirsty so, I carry around my 40oz hydro flask! Have to have the straw lid to take a quick sip as I am teaching. I love it!
I always carry a water bottle with me.
I fill up my water bottle first thing, and try to drink and refill by lunch, and then again in the afternoon. Always a large glass of milk at dinner since I’m pregnant 🙂
In the winter, I drink a lot of hot water with lemon and/or ginger. Heating up the water makes it much more appealing in the winter
As soon as temperatures drop i substitute plain water with tea and other hot drinks. The fact that they come in a variety of flavors and combinations keeps me from getting bored and skipping my daily ounces. I loved your suggestions and i will definitely try them.
