During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

A straw and lots of ice! This Alabama girl likes ice cold water!
I always put a full glass of water on my bedside table before I go to bed so that the first thing I do when I wake up is drink it!
I try to drink a glass of water right when I wake up and right before bed, as well as filling up every time I go for s walk at work since I have a sedentary job
I bought a soda stream so I can make my own bubble water.
I just love drinking water 😛 Room temp though! Never cold!
I always have a filled water bottle with me. It is a must Especially living here in Arizona!
I love my camelbak water bottle & refill it constantly! Also I find that drinking water at room temperature helps me drink more 🙂
I keep a large bottle of water everywhere I am….my desk at work, my home computer, the couch, etc. so it’s always handy
Everyday I fill up at least two 1 Liter water bottles and I make sure to drink them before the day is through. Most days I drink more than the two bottles, but seeing that I have only had half of one bottle and its almost mid day helps me to be more intentional about drinking up.
I live in Mexico where it is hot all year round. So, remembering to hydrate isn’t a problem. I agree, straws make it so much more fun. As do fun water bottles – I have a variety in bright colors to keep it a little more fun.
I drink flavored, sparkling water almost daily and I LOVE it!
I always drink a big glass of water before every meal. It’s easy to remember and works every time!
avoid salt!
I use just a standard gallon of water, so one of these would definitely help with my water intake! 🙂
I always bring water with me. I keep it in the car, at my desk at work, when I’m working out, just about everywhere! That make it much easier to stay hydrated.
I add lemon to my water. It makes me drink way more than I would otherwise. It’s like lemonade without the sugar. And who could resist lemonade?? 🙂
Lots of hot tea in the winter and a really good filtration system in my kitchen so my water tastes great 🙂
i carry my water bottle around with me EVERYWHERE. i try to fill it up a couple times per day
I follow the tip of refill in my water every time I go to the restroom too. I drink a lot of water so I have to pee a lot, it’s a never ending cycle!
Yes, yes, and yes to all of the above! Also, I make sure to always have a glass of water first thing when I wake up and to drink while I’m eating my meals.
I try and buy fun water bottles or tumblers to keep drinking all that water fun!
I try to drink a full glass before I have coffee in the morning, then at work, I set six 16.9oz water bottles on my desk as a reminder to get them down before I leave. Wouldn’t hurt to switch that system out for a nice big water bottle!
I got used to drinking a lot of water while I was pregnant. Now that I am 5 weeks postpartum, I am still addicted to just water and haven’t reintroduced pop or any other beverages (I’m trying to just drink water!). One of the things that has really helped me is a huge water container and straw. The hospital actually let me take home the giant water bottle/huge straw that I used during labor/delivery. I’ve been using it every day since. It allows me to keep track of how many oz I am drinking a day. 🙂
I really focus on drinking a lot of water throughout the day. I allllllways have a cup of water with me. Having it readily available helps me to get plenty of fluids in.
And I feel ya on the straw, so much better!
I aim to drink about 3 liters of water a day, forsure tackleing one of those in my morning workout. I also like to add True Lemon flavoring when the water taste just isn’t cutting it. Thanks for this great giveaway!
I also keep a big water bottle at my desk and refill it every time I get up (even if it’s not totally empty). I take it with me to meetings so that I’m not just drinking when sitting at my computer.
I always carry a big thermos with me and try to refill often. I like your straw idea and will definitely be adding that tip to my routine 🙂
One thing I did when I was working full time, was have a little compatition with myself and my friends to see who could drink the most water during their shift. It helped me stay hydrated very well. Now that I don’t work it’s a little harder. But I find that if I make sure to put ice in my big water cup (the ones you get at the hospital) I’ll drink that really well.
I have a 32-oz water bottle at work and I make sure to drink one full bottle before lunch and one before I leave for the day. This means that no matter what happens before work or afterwards, I’ve had my eight 8-oz glasses of water! (I realize that this is a constantly moving target, but it’s still a LOT of water and way more than most people I know drink, so it’s a good start!)
I keep a big pitcher of ice water in the fridge and fill my water bottle from the pitcher — icy cold water is more appealing to me for some reason!
I’ve realized I enjoy water bottles and tumblers with straws and am significantly more likely to drink out of something if it has a straw. I keep one on my desk & at home to stay hydrated!
I try to drink a warm glass of lemon water before making coffee in the morning. It’s a great way to start hydrating after sleeping all night!
I actually drink hot water when it starts to get cooler out. I know it sounds weird but I really like it! I also add coconut oil to it sometimes. It doesn’t change the flavor much, but it smells amazing and every time I take a sip it is like putting on chapstick at the same time. Love it!
I make sure that by the time each meal has finished I finished off a 20 oz water bottle and then with my workout another 20oz or so.
I carry a water bottle everywhere–always packed with ice! It’s forming a habit of sipping all day that’s given me success.
Keeping a full 32 oz water bottle on my desk all day is the only way I can remember to stay hydrated!
I always have a big cute cup with me- and I 100% agree it has to have a straw.. I make sure to bring it to work with me and I try to get a large enough one so I do not have to fill up a ton of times.
I carry my water bottle around 24/7, no exaggeration. I also don’t drink things with caffeine, so that helps stay hydrated!
No matter where I go, I always have a water bottle with me. I love the Camelbak Eddy because it has the built in straw and can hold quite a bit of water. When I’m looking to switch things up, I use my infusion water bottle with different mixes of fruits to change it up!
To help myself stay hydrated I always carry around my contigo water bottle with me wherever I go!
I have been adding watermelon ice cubes to my water. Put cut up watermelon in to a juicer and then freeze the juice in ice cube trays.
I have a 24 oz. water bottle that I fill 4 times a day. I try to make sure I drink at least 8 oz. every hour to keep hydrated! More if I’ve worked out!
I stay hydrated all year long by carrying a water bottle with me where ever I go!
I try to drink a full glass with each meal – and tons of ice cubes. The colder the better!
I love making my water hot and drinking it, especially in the fall and winter months!
I Keep a water bottle with me at all times!
Omg what an awesome giveaway!!!!!!!!!!!! Im a PE teacher so I always try to drink 20 oz of water every class! That way I drink roughly 60 oz while Im at work!!! (Each one of my classes is around 2 hours!) I know that i have to drink about 10 oz a water and my shaker cup has measurements so it makes it kinda like a game! Esp on days when I dont wanna drink water, I make myself by playing the silly game with myself and my co workers!!!
I stay hydrated al year long by carrying a large water bottle everywhere I go! I also brew tea at night to change things up and warm me up!
I try to start my day with water! I find if I drink a big glass in the morning it makes it easier for me to drink it throughout the day. I also love putting fruit in my water! It makes it taste so much better.
Hey Julie! To stay hydrated I like to drink fruit flavored water. And for my caffeine in the morning ( just because I don’t have time to make coffee) I like to put Mio Energy into my water for that extra boost I’m looking for before work.
