During the summer months when it’s hot outside, it’s easier for me to remember to stay hydrated because warmer weather makes me thirstier and serves almost as a daily reminder to sip on a cold, refreshing beverage throughout the day. As the temperatures begin to drop, my desire to drink a lot of cold water decreases significantly, but there are a few key things we can all do to help remind ourselves to drink and stay hydrated all year long.
Below you will find a few tips that can be easily implemented to help keep yourself hydrated every day! (And stay tuned for a hydration-themed giveaway at the end of this post, thanks to Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water!)
- Opt For A Larger Water Bottle
If I have a large water bottle sitting in front of me as I work on the computer, I will often look down to find the water bottle completely drained without realizing I’ve been guzzling it down. Mindless drinking for the win! By opting for a larger water bottle – one that holds 20+ ounces – I find myself drinking more since a larger amount of water is simply sitting in front of me, making staying hydrated a bit easier!
- Refill Your Water Bottle Every Time You Go To The Bathroom
This is a tip I started to follow when I was working at my previous desk job, but now that I work from home, it’s one I still try to remind myself to follow since it’s a great way to remind yourself to always have a full water bottle with you! If you fill up your water bottle every time you use the bathroom, you’ll always have a full water bottle on hand, making staying hydrated that much easier!
- Vary Your Beverage To Prevent Boredom
If you’re anything like me, sipping on water all day long can start to get a bit boring. When I was pregnant, and now that I’m nursing, I cannot seem to drink enough but drinking tons and tons of plain water can feel a little dull. When I feel water boredom setting in, I opt for sparkling water or extract water to spice things up a bit! It’s an easy and delicious way to sneak in extra fluids.
I was recently sent a few bottles of Ocean Spray® PACt® cranberry extract water to try and it’s a great option to turn to when you want to hydrate your body with something that tastes great, too! The PACt® cranberry extract water contains PACs (proanthocyanidins), unique, powerful elements found deep inside cranberries that help cleanse and purify your body. The cranberry extract water is made with clean ingredients (the bright red color comes from cranberries alone and it’s sweetened naturally) and the water has only 10 calories per 16 ounce bottle.
My favorite flavor is the Cranberry Mango-Passionfruit and I love all of them mixed with a little bit of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail any time of the day!
- Use A Straw
Is it just me, or is it a billion times easier to drink water when you do it from a straw (especially if you’re multi-tasking while pushing a baby in a stroller and walking your dog)? It makes sipping on water more fun and I try to drink most of my water from a water bottle or tumbler that has a straw. For some reason I just seem to drink more when I do it from a straw!
- Add Your Own Fun Flavors
According to Ocean Spray’s hydration survey (which you may find and take here), more than 60 percent of Americans are drinking less than eight glasses of water a day and more than half of all Americans don’t feel the need to hydrate when temperatures cool down. Make your water or water-based beverage more fun by adding your own flavors! Throw some fresh orange, grapefruit or cucumber slices into a cold cup of water. Crush mint leaves and stir them into sparkling water. Add frozen grapes to cranberry extract water for a tasty alternative to ice cubes!
Anything to make staying hydrated a little more fun!

I have a water bottle that I love – it is made of glass and I SWEAR water tastes better out of glass. We have a water dispenser at work, and an ice machine so I try to use both as much as possible. Ice cold water is the best. Sometimes I do change things up a bit and add some flavoring, but I really do like plain water.
I make sure I drink one water bottle before lunch and one afterwards as my minimum! I use the straw method also! I will def start using the bigger drink container!
I hate drinking water unless I just finished working out and then it tastes so good, so I’ll set little rewards for myself. Such as, I’ll have to drink a bottle of water and then I can eat/drink a treat.
Love your tips for staying hydrated. Since I retired I find it harder to drink enough water. This package would sure help
I learned to use a straw when I was pregnant. I’m still refilling my water bottle every chance I get at work. My work has a water refill station so I have no excuse. I get exercise walking to it and stay hydrated.
I love water! I used to have the huge bubba keg (64oz) and drank from that. But it started leaking and I was so sad. Now I stay home with my daughter and I have the hospital cup in her nursery and my regular tumblr that I move around with me wherever I go. But it’s nice to have water with me because I don’t go too long without taking a sip
I try and start my day off with 8-10 oz of water with lemon. During a work day I am most successful if I have a large bottle with a straw. I eat and have so much more energy on the days is successfully do this.
I’m all about the straw as well! I find myself drinking way more water throughout the day if I use a straw so that definitely has helped me stay hydrated.
I am a college student and always make sure to fill up my water bottle when I’m on campus in between classes! 🙂
I keep a big water bottle with me all the time. I love drinking water!
Fresh fruit mixed in – strawberry and lemon slices is a favorite combo!
I try to do fruit infusing so that it has a tasty flavor rather than just plain water
I keep a large tumbler of water at my side at all times.
Strangely enough, I really do not like the taste of water. I am a huge fan of tossing in extract-mainly lemon juice so that I will actually drink it. It is a battle for me even when it is hot out!
I almost always carry a nalgene with me!
I always drink a glass of water right when I wake up! I also always carry a water bottle with me–where ever I go!
I start my day with a large glass of lemon water!
I like to infuse my water with essential oils. Lemon and orange are my go-tos.
I always keep cold water in the fridge, it’s easy for me to make sure I drink water if it’s easily accessible to me. I also love to drink a big glass of cold water each morning to start the day that helps me to start the day with it. I would love to try the cranberry water you talked about! 🙂
I like very cold water so I fill bottles half full at night and freeze them to keep the water cold all day.
The one habit that has consistently helped me drink more water throughout the day is to carry a water bottle with me. I picked up a cute pink one that holds 32 ounces! I never leave home without it, and I always end up drinking the majority of it, if not, more! A huge incentive is I hate lugging around the thing. It’s so heavy. The more I drink, the lighter it is! Win-win.
I would for sure say I do the water bottle at my desk trick, and always make sure it is full for a car ride. Another thing I do is try to challenge myself by keeping track of how much I am drinking. I try to get so many bottles in before lunch time and so much before dinner and bed.
I use an app called Water Your Body that reminds me to drink every hour. When I hear the chime it reminds me to chug a whole bunch of water. It is especially helpful in the afternoon when I am bad about staying hydrated!
This pregnant lady laughed when you said to fill your water bottle every time I use the bathroom. I’m sure that would work out to 300 water bottle fills per day for me! Ha! I follow lots of these tips, especially keeping a water bottle on my desk!
I keep my water COLD! For some reason it’s way easier for me to guzzle water when it’s cold and refreshing versus room temperature!
I try and drink lemon water every morning with my breakfast. Throughout the day I try and drink two water bottles before lunch and then two afterwards!
The key for me to drink lots of water is making sure I have a petty bottle. That makes all the difference! Also my last water bottle has a fruit infusion in it so I have tried many types of fruits in my water. That adds lots of different flavors.
My family always jokes that I have some legitimate phobia of being dehydrated because I am constantly carrying a water bottle around. I work at an office job so some of these giant hydration holders would be super helpful! 🙂
Got in the habit with being pregnant now I have a glass an hour rule at work. Lately I’ve had a hard time keeping that going though , working on bringing it back to habit.
I always bring my water bottle when I go out and about and try to refill whenever I go to the bathroom!
I try to give myself a time to drink a certain amount of water. So 24 ounces by 10:00AM and then another 24 ounces by noon or 1:00PM. I also use the “Waterlogged” app to help me keep track of the amount I’m drinking.
I also like drinking from a tumbler with a straw. It’s easier to carry around with me when I’m at home doing stuff. Although I could still use some improvement, especially at work. I like your idea of filling up your water bottle every time you use the washroom. I’ll have to start using that trick!
I drink a lot of tea, hot in the cooler months and iced in the summer. That, and lemon water!
Cold water and my camelbak are the only ways I can keep up with the appropriate water intake. I’m currently pregnant and am having a hard time staying hydrated but those two simple things definitely help!
I add cucumber and fresh mint to my water, or lemon slices and basil. Makes it more fun and pretty, too!
I keep a glass out by the water faucet at home!
I always keep a jug of water (and a 12 pack of canned seltzer) in the fridge! For some reason having the cold water in there makes it more enticing and I end up drinking more!
At work I have a big water bottle and I combine hydration with remembering to get out of my chair by doing a lap around the building every time I empty the bottle and then refill it. At home I stay stocked with all kinds of sparkling water because since I gave up caffeine it seems to be the only excitement I can find in a drink.
I always keep flavored water packets handy. It’s the only way I can drink water so it really helps when it tastes good!
I carry a water bottle with me everywhere I go. I’m obsessed!
To stay hydrated, I keep a large water bottle on my desk at work.
At work I keep a Brita pitcher at my desk, so I have purified water on hand at all times (the tap water at the office tastes terrible). I also keep my water bottle in eye sight so I am constantly reminded to take a swig.
In the summer drinking ice water is easy but when the weather gets cold I switch to herbal tea. When I need something better than plain water I treat myself to bai plain and bubbly
I’m a teacher so I always have a very large water bottle on my desk and fill up whenever I have breaks. I always take some with me when I leave the house too.
I bought a cute insulated water cup since I like my water ice ice cold and I buy fun straws!
I carry water with me everywhere!
Setting goals and having a big water bottle are my tricks. I’m really bad about not drinking with meals so I try to finish my 32 ounce water bottle once before lunch, once before I leave work and once in the evening!
I always carry a jug around my classroom with me at school! I also bring a bag of ice with me each week because I tend to drink more if it’s cold!
As soon as there is any chill to the air I start drinking cups of decaf green or white tea in between my bottles of water. It keeps me hydrated and warms me up!
It’s easier for me to stay hydrated if I had a couple water bottles throughout the house. I always keep one in my room and one in the living room for easy access when I’m playing with or nursing my little boy. That way I never have to worry if I forget it in another room but can’t get up right away.
