Sweat It Out Boot Camp Workout

July 17, 2013 by Julie 93 Comments

At work today, I taught a boot camp class and had a blast!

I am subbing for another instructor who is out for the next few weeks and followed her format for the class. (You can see one of her workouts in this post: Boot Camp Workout.) She creates six stations around the gymnasium and groups of five people hop from station to station to complete the workout. Equipped with an upbeat playlist and some basic gym equipment, I taught the class and walked around from station to station, providing modifications for some of the more difficult exercises and answering any questions.

Here is today’s workout:

Sweat It Out BOOT CAMP WORKOUT

The class passed by quickly and everyone looked nice and sweaty by the end. Though I am enjoying teaching water fitness, boot camp-style classes are more my style since they’re the kind of workouts I absolutely adore. Fast paced and challenging!

Here are links to video demonstrations of some of the exercises:

  • Goblet Squat with Kettlebell
  • Ski Jumps
  • Leg Lift Crunches
  • Bosu Ball Push Up

Since I didn’t complete the workout with the class, I did my own upper body weight workout before finishing up work for the day (I worked the early shift again). I headed home around 1:30 p.m.

Lunch

Once I made it back to our place, I threw together lunch using leftovers from last night and freezer food.

Cauliflower Chicken and Corn

I tossed some leftover chicken and roasted cauliflower in a bowl with corn that I heated up from the freezer. It was good, but the highlight was dessert that came in the form of truffles!

Chocolate Truffles with Walnuts and Dates

On Sunday afternoon, I made a batch of truffles by following a recipe that my friend Minda sent to me. They are gluten-free, vegan and freakin’ delicious! They taste like little bites of brownie batter.

Date Walnut Chocolate Truffles

To make them, first process two cups of walnuts in a food processor. Then add one cup of pitted dates and four tablespoons of cocoa powder and process in again until a “dough” forms. Roll into balls, toss in a bag with unsweetened coconut and enjoy!

I ate two this afternoon and loved every last bite.

You must make these! Yum!

    1) I need those bites now
    2) Boot camp classes are my absolute favorite! One of the first group exercise classes I ever took as a book camp style class and it was so intimidating, but I grew to love it so much!

Especially with the alternating cardio and strength. The best way to get it done!
Oh man, I have a ton of favorite healthy desserts, I just posted a recipe today for healthy mint chocolate chip “ice cream” I’ve been obsessed with lately, and I love so many other things.

My fave healthy dessert is a banana sliced, sprinkled with cinnamon. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds, and top with walnuts! Tastes like banana bread.

Yum those truffles look delicious! I love making banana soft serve ice cream with frozen bananas and frozen mango blended and then topping it with coconut flakes, it is so good for a healthy dessert.

That boot camp class looked intense but fun! Got to love circuit workouts 🙂

I love just some fresh, juicy fruit for dessert. Chocolate covered strawberries are great too. Definitely satisfies my chocolate cravings but doesn’t go overboard.

Sticking a chopped, fresh apple in the microwave for a couple minutes creates the taste of an apple pie! So good and refreshing!

I really enjoy Boot Camp classes at 24 hour fitness where I have a membership. It is fun to do circuits with new people and the changing exercises make the time go by fast. I have been doing the Paleo diet so those truffles would be perfect. I haven’t brought myself to buying a food processor but I may have to invest 🙂

those look delicious! my favorite healthy dessert, especially in the summer, is banana “ice cream”. I freeze a banana and then stick it in my food processor, blend it, and add some almond butter and cocoa powder before blending it one more time. Has the consistency and sweetness of ice cream without all the additives and dairy!

Let’s just say I eat a LOT of dark chocolate and fruit every night. I’m a bit concerned about my fruit and chocolate consumption actually…especially since so late at night and after every meal. Oh my.

Wish I were healthy enough to do that kind of workout. I can’t even do one jumping jack…go me…

Anyway, one thing is for sure: you can’t be shy to do the kind of job you do!

Oh my gosh! I just ran into my kitchen to make these 🙂 I had to sub the walnuts for the only nuts I had left (slivered almonds – thought I had whole but I guess not). I had to add a drizzle of almond milk to get the “doughy consistency” but they turned out SO good!

I opened the container to have a second one and it smells just like brownies. 🙂
