Tampa Bay Rays Season Opener

April 7, 2012 by Julie 40 Comments

Yesterday I attended my first Tampa Bay Rays baseball game!

IMG_0037-001

It was a great game to go to because it was not only the season opener, but they were playing this little start-up team called the Yankees. Maybe you’ve heard of them? Winking smile

IMG_0028-001

Ryan and I went to the game with my parents and arrived a few hours early to tailgate and enjoy a block party outside of Tropicana Field.

IMG_0024-001

Do you like my beads? I worked hard for those… but not Mardi Gras hard, if ya know what I mean. Winking smile

IMG_0023-001

The game started a little after 3 p.m. and was a fun one to watch. We even got to see one of the Rays players (Pena) hit a grand slam which was absolutely insane. The crowd went crazy!

Attending a baseball game must include ballpark snacks and we made sure to get some food after watching the game for a bit.

IMG_0035-001

Healthy eats were hard to find at the game, so a basket of chicken fingers and fries satisfied my hunger.

And lots of peanuts, of course!

IMG_0036-001

The Rays ended up winning which was just icing on the cake after a fun afternoon!

On our way home we stopped by Yogurtology for frozen yogurt to tide us over until dinner.

IMG_0039-001

We spent the rest of the evening at my parents’ house, chatting over a home cooked meal with my family.

Now we’re getting ready to dig into a breakfast (I made my banana pecan coconut baked oatmeal for everyone), before hitting the road for Sarasota to spend the night at my mother-in-law’s house. If you’re looking for a healthy and easy breakfast dish to make for a big gang this weekend, a big batch of baked oatmeal is the way to go! Our house smells fantastic.

See ya in a bit!

Is that an indoor baseball stadium? Never seen that before. I loove baseball games and cannot attend without a hot dog and a beer. 🙂

I’ve been to a few Rays games, but never got to see the Yankees play them! Also – I’ve never seen a grand slam and always joke to my husband saying live baseball games are a little on the boring side….so it’s great to hear you had a great time! 🙂

Looks like you had a great time! I have to bring Anthony to a baseball game – he’s never been, even though he’s lived in the states for two years! We’re leaving for Australia tomorrow, so I suppose it will have to wait.

Looks like fun! I think I’ve only been to 3 baseball games in my life and to be very honest, I haven’t a clue what the rules etc are – kind of like football! But nevertheless, the live sport atmosphere is still so much fun. Safe travels!

Healthy eats are definitely hard to find at the game, but most ballparks allow you to bring in food and sealed beverages. It’s a little unknown fact. You can save money and calories but bringing sandwiches and chips than overindulging on park food!

I can’t wait to get to a baseball game this season! I have to say – one of the main reasons I like watching baseball is because there’s lots of down-time to just relax and chat 🙂

I really like the Tampa stadium. We went to a game there a few years ago. Love how close you can get to the action!

I have friends in Miami and they were telling me their new ballpark is awesome. Lot’s of Florida style in the architecture and colors. I hope they put something together like that for the folks in Tampa too.
