Tax Time

April 11, 2013 by Julie 29 Comments

Today’s midday meeting with our accountant ended up lasting longer than I anticipated, but I think it was very beneficial.

In the past, Ryan and I have handled all of our finances and taxes ourselves, but since I am self-employed and my income comes from so many different sources thanks to the blog and freelance work, we felt like it was time to hire a professional. I am so glad we did.

I can no longer plug everything into TurboTax and be done with my taxes in less than 30 minutes and it gives me great peace of mind to have the help of someone who knows what they’re doing and can offer us advice along the way.

After several hours of money talk, Ryan and I were more than ready for lunch. He said said that my lunchtime blog post yesterday sparked a craving for Firehouse Subs in him that he couldn’t shake, so we decided to get subs for lunch.

Just as good the second day in a row!

After lunch, we headed home and set up our computers side-by-side to work. Ryan was able to work from home for the rest of the day, so I’ve enjoyed his company! Sadie was pretty psyched, too!

The rest of the night will be dedicated to prepping some treats for Laurel’s bachelorette party weekend. I can’t wait!!!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

    Sub sandwiches are the best!

Taxes are not! hah. I made my husband do it all-I never do my own b/c it drives me bonkers. For right now we’re good without professional help, but it got tricky there near the end, he said! I have a lot of random sources of income too! Glad you guys got it figured out with a prof 🙂

I always do my own tax but I’ve been wondering if I should get someone else to do it to potentially get a much better return as I think there are always things I could claim for that I may not know about.

    That sub looked good!

Confession time: my dad still does my taxes.

Every year he claims that THIS is the LAST year he’s going to do them…..

    muahahahaha 🙂

I took advantage of my Dad doing mine for as long as I could too! I figured since I am almost married, better take care of it myself now. LOL

We used an accountant my first year of self-employment as well. Such a good peace of mind!

Oh good ol’ tax time! My husband and I still use Turbo Tax but I think we are going to consider using an accountant next year – it is just getting way to complicated! At least you got to enjoy some quality time together after chatting money and taxes 🙂

My mom had to hire a professional just for my taxes because I worked in four different states last year so that was 4 different tax forms! I’m 22 and have been living on my own for 5 years…maybe time to do my own taxes? Nah..not if mom’s still offering!

This is my last TaxFree year. I am on a scholarship that is tax free (but still miserable :)). This way, at least in Germany, if I did not pay any tax, I can’t get anything back. Oh, the joys of the PhD student life 🙂
Next year I will have to figgure out the whole thing though

I hate doing taxes SO much. I always push it off until the last possible moment, and since we’re going to be traveling on April 15th…the last possible moment has indeed arrived. The thing is, I CAN do it, which makes me not able to justify the cost of a professional…but I just absolutely hate doing it!

Tax time is such a pain! I always leave it to the last minute and you know it’s there in the back of your mind. I wish I could just motivate myself to do it earlier!

We have someone do our taxes for us, too. It just makes life so less stressful. And he’s pretty darn inexpensive, so it’s totally worth it!

I took personal income tax last year on law school and rather than giving me the confidence to so my own taxes, it made me realize I am definitely hiring someone to do mine! Luckily, since I’m still in school my dad does them now 😉

I’ve never been to a Firehouse Subs. Maybe they’re just on the east coast?

It’s bittersweet that I still use TurboTax. I hate doing it but the upside is not having to pay someone. When I was self-employed, I agree it was much more complicated!

A post without a cute Sadie pic?!? *gasp!* 😉

I could go for one of those subs right now! Luckily, my husband does our taxes on turbo tax. I would be so bad at it if I did it myself…lol!

Yes, tax can be a pain, as if you have not got yours done for the year it is always on your mind. We still have not done ours for last 2011-2012, as we are trying to find a good accountant.

I absolutely love sandwich places, but I have never been to Firehouse Subs. I am going to have to give it a try though because your sandwiches the past two days have looked amazing!

I was a Turbo Tax user this year. I was grateful for not owning property and only having 1 place of employment who provided each detail to be plugged into the tax form!

Yeah turbo tax is the best when your taxes are straight forward but as soon as anything slightly complicated comes into play its def a good idea to hire a professional. If, for no other reason, peace of mind. That sub looks delicious!
