The Most Helpful Apprentice

December 1, 2011 by Julie 81 Comments

Wanna know something I think about regularly?

I wish Sadie had the ability to bake.

dog baking

And clean.

dog butt

(Sorry for that one, but it’s true. She’s had lots of practice.)

Sadie seriously looks at me with eyes that always seem to want to be involved. I’m convinced she’d be the most helpful little apprentice in all the land if only she had thumbs.

Unfortunately Sadie’s helpfulness was at an all-time low this evening, so dinner was left to me and Ryan.

meatball subs 009

Meatball subs!

We made meatball subs topped with lots of shredded cheese and served them with a side of roasted Brussels sprouts and sautéed onions.

meatball subs 014

The Brussels sprouts were just not cutting it for me today. (They were severely underseasoned. As they say on Cupcake Wars, I was underwhelmed. <—What is that? Seriously.)

I thought I was in the mood for the Brussels sprouts as they were roasting, but after eating about five bites, I was over ‘em. The cheesy meatball sub, however, went down just fine.

Time to put up the Christmas tree!!! Star

Question of the Evening

  • If your pet could do one pain-in-the-butt thing for you daily, what would you have them do?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

haha this is so funny…and so much like my dogs. They are always up in my business, esp when I am in the kitchen. I turn around and basically step on them because they are hovering. When I have to pee, they escort me to the bathroom and lick my legs (weird I know) and when my husband and I have ‘our” time, they both wine outside of the shut door then come investigate. I laugh at least 30 times a day becasue my dogs are so weird, yet wonderful!

I’m the same way about certain foods…I feel like I really want them, then when I start eating them they make me gag. I don’t know why this is but it drives me crazy!

I think I would definitely choose cleaning the kitchen or even just doing the dishes. That way my husband and I could just relax after dinner! Love the look of these subs, by the way – I doubt I would be underwhelmed by them. 🙂 Do you make your own meatballs, or do you have a suggestion for a store-bought brand?

I would have my dogs deep clean the floors daily (vacuuming carpet and steam cleaning the hard floors). It’s so hard to keep the floors clean with two dogs so it would be lovely if they would just keep them clean themselves! 🙂

I think that Sadie would be an excellent drink refilled/retriever. She just seems so eager =) I only have a cat named Barry. I think that she would love to help cook as well. She always perches herself on the one stool in the kitchen WHENEVER someone enters the room.

We don’t have a dog yet. But when we do, the dog will take me for a run, instead of the other way around. I won’t have to think about it, and the pooch won’t listen to my complaining. I’ll just get dressed, and the dog would run me along at the determined pace for five miles or so, and not stop until the run was finished.

Or, I could use a treadmill, I guess.

Can’t wait to run with Chewbacca in Australia! (Never thought I’d type that sentence.

I would have the cats clean the litter box, and the dogs fold laundry! However, the roles are reversed and my dogs want to “clean” the litter box, and the cats would rather sleep on the clean clothes!

Oh well! Let me know if you ever train Sadie to help you bake, she may need to teach my dogs 🙂
