The Theme of the Day is Chocolate

February 12, 2012 by Julie 838 Comments

The theme of the day is chocolate!

I cannot get enough of the sweet stuff. From hot chocolate to pieces of a dark chocolate to my lunch to cookies, my day had been full of delicious cocoa.

Lunch

Today’s lunch included chocolate in the form of chocolate hazelnut butter, spread on a toasted Thomas’ whole wheat bagel with raspberry jelly.

A sliced apple and more Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter served as my sides.

And then it was time for a chocolate-fueled hike!

Ryan and I bundled up and took Sadie on a five-mile hike on the trails near our house. It felt good to get some fresh air and move around a bit after spending the morning cooped up inside working on an article.

Remember how Sadie chased after a black bear before?

(When I read that sign aloud to Ryan today I inserted the word “humans” after “small mammals” to see if he was paying attention. Muhaha!)

Well, it turns out Sadie is not as brave as we thought.

She stopped in the middle of the trail and had a barking fit over an ominous palm.

Haven’t you heard? Rogue palms are very dangerous. Ryan naturally sprinted ahead and jumped on it, which absolutely thrilled Sadie. I swear they speak the same language sometimes.

After our hike, the chocolate fun continued… and this time it involves you! Smile

Mason Jar Cookie Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago I was sent a jar of ingredients for a special cookie recipe… one that I created!

mason jar cookies

The Mason Jar Cookie Company is a company that provides you with all of the ingredients you need (with the exception of egg and butter) to make cookies that you create through their website.

I named my mix “Git in Mah Belly.”

To an oatmeal cookie base I added:

  • Valentine’s Day M&Ms
  • Pecans
  • Toffee

This afternoon, Ryan and I were craving warm, gooey cookies after our chilly hike, so I used my “Git in Mah Belly” mix to make us a batch of oatmeal, toffee, M&M and pecan cookies.

I’m not sure why my cookies didn’t seem to rise, but at least they tasted great!

stacked cookies

I prefer chewy, thin cookies over dry and cake-like cookies any day.

The best news is that The Mason Jar Cookie Company is giving away one of their jars of cookie mix to one of you!

One winner will be able to create their own cookie mix though the company’s website to have sent directly to them ASAP!

To enter this giveaway, simply comment below telling me about your favorite kind of cookie. I’ll randomly select a winner tomorrow morning.

Good luck!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

If we’re talking traditional cookies, my favorite are these M & M cookies my mom used to make. If we’re including cookie bars in this mix, my mom makes these AMAZING oat and chocolate bars that are simply to die for.

Definitely cakey cocoa cookies (based on a cakey chocolate chip cookie recipe…sans chips, plus cocoa) topped with homemade peanut butter frosting. My grandma and mom made these for us during childhood…LOVE 🙂
