Things You Could Talk About for Hours

May 26, 2011 by Julie 123 Comments

Today’s lunch was yesterday’s lunch! Around noon yesterday I just wasn’t in the mood to eat the salad I packed. I went home for a smoothie for lunch instead and left my lunch in the office refrigerator overnight.

Today I was in the mood for a salad and I dug into my neglected bowl of veggies with excitement this afternoon.

Today’s salad included:

  • Butter lettuce
  • Honey ham
  • Grape tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Cucumber
  • Bell peppers
  • Honey mustard dressing

It was a good one!

Things You Could Talk About for Hours

This morning at work I was talking with one of my coworkers about our dogs. We were both filling our water bottles and ended up standing by the water cooler for a while laughing at random stories about the crazy animals in our lives.

When I sat back down at my desk, I began thinking about all of the things in the world that I feel like I could talk with someone about for hours:

  • Dogs (vizslas in particular)
  • Blogging
  • Cooking and baking
  • Weddings
  • Celebrities (My heart skips a beat when I see a new issue of US Weekly on the magazine rack at my gym)
  • Fitness
  • Travel
  • Old episodes of Friends
  • North Carolina and my desire to live there
  • Food (specifically dessert)
  • Body image and self worth
  • The future and personal goals

Then I thought about the topics that bore me to tears within two minutes:

  • Finance
  • Web coding
  • Insurance

Questions of the Day

  • What is one thing you could talk about for hours?
  • What is one topic that bores you to tears within two minutes?

Old episodes of Friends FOR SURE. I reference Friends at least 5 times a week and get super annoyed when the people around me don’t understand what I’m talking about 😉 Thank goodness I have friends who are as equally obsessed with the show as I am or I’d be in major trouble.

Oh come live in NC! I love it here!

I could talk to people for hours about food, books, a television show, playing the guitar, and so much more.

What bores me to tears though is when someone is trying to teach me something I could care less about which always depends on my mood. One day I could love to listen to my dad go on and on about engineering, but another day I would rather stab needles in my eyes.

I could care less about people’s dogs or cats, most sports, and politics. Just to name a few.

I could basically agree with you on every single thing that you could talk about for hours AND the things that bore you to death! With the exception that I love love love People magazine, the Kardashians (I know, I know), frozen yogurt, and my dreams to retire in Laguna Beach, California…. even though I’m only 23!

Talk about for hours: TV shows, pregnancy, childbirth, kids, running, college (really things I did in college)

Bores me to tears: Sports teams. My eyes glaze over when hubby starts talking about the Magic or FSU team sports

Wow, your list matches mine exactly…with the replacement of “dogs” with “cats.” Ok, well maybe addition and not replacement. Anything cute and cuddly will do. Ok, and maybe N. Carolina isn’t on my list…but only because I dont’ know anything about it. But Friends…geez, i watch the reruns every night and it’s the only show guaranteed to make me laugh out loud even when I’m by myself 🙂

I agree with most of your list. 🙂 With travel, I feel like it’s especially true of a place me and the other person have both been to. It’s so fun to compare facts with someone else who has traveled to the same place!

Competitive swimming and New York state are two more for me. 🙂

I hate talking about politics (politics is interesting, I just hate talking about it with people), graphic medical problems, and sports. I reeeeally hate hearing about football games and people in the south seem to love that topic.

I’m surprised on how many readers don’t like talking about finances! I love talking about finance – and not personal finance (although I don’t mind that) but topics like the markets, securities, corporate finance, derivates, etc. I watch CNBC all day.

Come on ladies, men shouldn’t be the only ones capitalizing on market information!

I just had to tell you, I saw my very first vizsla yesterday! I always love looking at pictures of Sadie, and while I was familiar with the breed, had never seen one in real life! Yesterday I went to pick up my dog from the groomers (which is also the same location as a doggy daycare), and while I was paying for my dogs haircut, a vizsla came into the daycare area as she was getting picked up from her day of daycare. I have never seen a more energetic and excited dog in my life! She was leaping around at her owner and me as well and was so so so happy and joyful!!

I immediately thought of you and Sadie and had to tell you!

We sound like two peas in a pod! The things I drone on about are health, cooking/healthy eating, fitness, flossing (I am a dental hygienist, ok?- so at least 1x per day!), celebrities (I live in the OC so I sometimes get to see them- whee!), movies, books, restaurants (mainly the food at them), whatever is in People magazine currently, quoting episodes of Friends & The Office, and my husband!

Fortunately, my hubby is a finance guy, so he takes care of that responsibility, thank goodness! And my eyes definitely glaze over when he talks about work, but shhhh!

What STOPS me from talking & puts me to sleep : Politics, Stock Market, Technology (my husband is a tech FREAK), people whining, Lord of the Rings, Workers Compensation Insurance…& i’m sure there are WAAAAAY more.

I love to talk about clothing/shopping, dogs, cooking, working out, fitness, TV, SATC/Friends – tons of girl shows, celebrities, concerts, traveling – the list goes on! I’m not a fan of talking about politics or random sports that I don’t play (i.e., volley ball).

    Hi Julie,
I could talk about my 6 month old English Bulldog puppy for hours – and I wanted to write because I have a question about Sadie’s harness – did you get it special from anywhere like Etsy and would you be willing to tell me where? It looks like it doesn’t hook in the front – or maybe that’s my imagination?? Does it help with pulling and do you prefer it over a collar?
    Thanks so much!

we actually got her harness from petsmart! it’s the “easywalk” harness and it’s AMAZING! it’s been a lifesaver for us b/c she pulls so much and it greatly prevents that. it does hook in the front.

Talk about for hours: Movies, animals, running, books (Stephen King novels especially), history, healthy planet, wine.

Bore me to tears: My job, “shareholder value”, any conversation that sounds like someone trying to “keep up with the Joneses”, and any conversation where someone is trying to impress on others how important they are.

I could talk food for hours and hours – recipes, drinks, new restaurants, food trucks, organic grocery stores, Trader Joe’s. I also like to talk about personal goals and with that, personal finance goals but like you, not just finance. I don’t like talking about sports history. That’s probably why I don’t get guys (or girls for that matter) who like to watch old sporting events like on ESPN retro or whatever it’s called. Really, what’s the point of re-watching an old game???
