Trooper

January 30, 2013 by Julie 206 Comments

Sadie is such a trooper.

I took her to the vet’s office right when they opened this morning and the woman at the front desk told me Sadie was scheduled for one of the first surgeries of the day. (First up? A bunny getting neutered, which I found oddly comical.)

I came home and did my best to study while I waited to hear back.

I made simple summer chili for lunch (I used turkey instead of lean ground beef) and ate it with Snapea Crisps.

chili

snap pea crisps

I first tried Snapea Crisps at Katy’s baby shower. File them under “things that shouldn’t taste good but somehow do.”

snap pea chips

After lunch it was time to pick up the little patient.

The vet said Sadie did great and that everyone got a kick out of her before surgery. They called her “Slink” because she kept acting feeble before they even did anything to her. I guess Sadie shares my fear of all things medical.

Because of where Sadie’s stitches are, the vet said she didn’t need to wear a cone, but recommended that we put her in a t-shirt if we leave her alone so she doesn’t scratch at the area.

She is definitely still feelin’ the meds, because she is currently staring straight down at a blanket on the couch.

IMG_2166-001

I plan to stay by her side and study on the couch while she slowly returns to normal.

IMG_2162-001

Her eyes are droopy and watery and she’s drifting in and out of sleep. I’m giving her lots of love and told her about all of your kind well-wishes.

I really must sincerely thank all of you for your amazing kindness. I know Sadie is “just a dog,” but she truly feels like a furry member of the Fagan family and adds so much joy to my life that I hate to see her in any pain. She’s doing so well, and I’m very hopeful that the biopsy results will help shed more light on what exactly is going on in her little body and give us a course of action to take to get her healthy! As always, I promise to keep you in the loop. We were told we’d hear more within a week.

Off to study and give Sadie some love. Thank you again for your warm wishes. You guys are the best!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Oh poor Sadie! I have a Weimaraner named Bailey and she gets cyst on her as well. Luckily they have all been benign and we have had them removed without a problem. Hopefully that will be the case with this “bump” on Sadie. Bailey also does the “ohhh I am so sensitive and fragile” thing also. They remind me a lot of each other. Bless her heart! Hope she feels better soon

Anyone who says that “it’s just a dog” has never owned a pet and is missing out on all the true joys of being a pet parent. As a dog parent, I truly understand the feelings that a sick pet can bring on. Hang in there!

Dogs really aren’t ‘just’ pets. They are truly a member of the family! My dog is literally my child and some people understand, some people don’t, but it is okay because i know how I feel about him and it is most definitely puppy love! 🙂

I’ve checked back numerous times for your afternoon post – I’ve worried about Sadie since you mentioned her scare a couple days ago. Our 1 year old goldendoodle “Mowgli” is our first (and currently) only baby and I understand the love you have for your pooch. You’re not alone girl…hang in there! Many prayers from Iowa! (I’ll make sure Mowgli sends some special “puppy prayers” up there, too!)

I know exactly how you feel and there is no such thing as ‘just a dog’. My maltese was in the vet hospital for 8 nights in August with several surgeries. Thankfully, she’s doing much better now but those 8 days and nights were some of the longest of my life. I’m sure Sadie appreciates all you’ve done for her and the love you give!

Glad Sadie did well through surgery. I absolutely know how you feel where you don’t want her to have any pain. My dogs are definately my “furry kids”.

On another note, I used to have a male bunny and had him neutered. Seems wacky but it makes them much nicer and calmer. He was amazing. He was litterbox trained just like a cat and would even play “hide and seek” with me. Just thought I would share that little tid bit : )

Lots of prayers for Sadie and her parents!

Julie, first off glad things went well for Sadie today, but she isnt just a dog…she is your child! People dont realize that animals are even more challenging than children because unlike your child, they can not talk or tell you what is wrong. She is so lucky to have you as her “mommy” and Ryan as her “daddy” because without you detected than bump, who knows what could have happened!!

All the best to the cute little patient :):)
