Water Babies

June 16, 2015 by Julie 49 Comments

After a whirlwind weekend packed with baby shower fun, I feel like I am finally able to catch my breath a bit this morning. We’ve had guests staying with us from Friday morning through late yesterday evening (my mom is actually staying through Thursday morning!), our house is looking like a hot mess and I feel rather behind on the work front, but my heart is so full.

Aside from my baby shower on Saturday, we spent most of the weekend out on the lake with our friends and family.

We visited a favorite local restaurant and wine bar on Friday, had a cook out at our place on Saturday night and ordered pizza on Sunday evening, but the days were spent on the water!

The weather was hot and sunny – perfect for boating – and we took full advantage of it by floating in the lake for hours.

Lake Norman Swimming

For this always-hot pregnant lady, it was basically heaven!

We also loved having Sadie and Kona out on the lake with us and the two dogs had the best time jumping in the water, playing fetch and swimming around with all of us.

Please note Sadie’s booty on my lap…

She’s getting better about navigating her way around my baby bump and is slowing beginning to realize she cannot back her butt up onto my stomach anymore. Lap space is getting smaller and smaller by the day over here!

After such a fun weekend with some of my very best friends, my sister and her husband, it was hard to watch everyone leave. As I hugged each of them goodbye, nearly everyone said something along the lines of, “The next time I see you, you’ll have a baby!” So, so crazy.

Things are getting back to normal around here today. I taught a 6 a.m. spinning class and am now chatting with you guys over a quick and easy breakfast of a toasted English muffin and Greek yogurt topped with fresh berries.

I need to grab a quick shower before heading back into work and then my mom is joining me for my 32-week prenatal appointment around lunchtime today. I’m so glad she’s staying a little longer! The two of us have plans to organize some of the baby stuff from my showers and figure out where I want to hang some prints up in our nursery. Hopefully this means I’ll be ready to share full pictures of our nursery with you guys soon since the only thing we really have left to do is hang some pictures on the wall!

I hope you have a great Tuesday!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Aww looks like such a fun weekend! It’s amazing that you have such a long-standing and tight-knit group of friends. Enjoy the rest of the time with your mom and hope you feel all caught up in no time.

Sadie makes me laugh! She’s not willing to give up her spot but she is willing to share! My little terrier likes propping her front paws on my bump – she assumes I’ve put it there for her comfort! Still utterly clueless she will have to share her space with a new arrival soon!

Has Sadie clued in to whats going on yet or is she still oblivious?! My mum’s dog is very aware and she follows me around everywhere (including waiting outside the loo to make sure I make it safely out again!) and likes to sit next to me on the couch. Funny how some dogs know and some don’t!

I think she’s still totally clueless… just frustrated there isn’t as much space for her on my lap anymore! She also used to love sprawling out on my chest/stomach before and seems to be confused when I have to move her to the side when she still tries to do that right now. 🙂

Where did you get the doggie life jackets??? Our rescue pup was born with a full top mouth (so her face looks normal)… but only half of a bottom mouth, if that makes sense. We want to take her swimming, but we’re concerned about her holding herself far enough above water to compensate for her almost always open mouth. This would be a perfect solution!

I wrap my hair around the outside of a curling iron, hairspray the heck out of them and then brush them out. In the above pics my hair was a little dirty and I feel like that helps them look less “done” and more wavy, too! When I curl freshly-washed hair, it seems to get way more curly/ringlet-like whereas dirtier hair seems to be a little less tightly curled. I’m not sure why, but I also prefer a less curly look, so I generally like the way the waves look on day two or so!

    Hi Julie,

I love reading about your pregnancy! I just found out I’m pregnant and I was wondering if there’s an app you use to help track your pregnancy? I thought I remembered reading in one of your entries that you did but now I’m not sure. I really do enjoy your updates on how big the baby is by comparing it to a fruit or vegetable. I started re-reading your posts just to see if I’m experiencing anything like you.

    Look forward to more posts!

Gosh, this post brings back so many memories! I grew up in Texas, where going to the lake was such a big part of my summers! We went out virtually every weekend with my parents, and my sister and I went to a camp on the lake during the week. The. best. Now I live in San Francisco where going to the lake is not part of the culture at all. It’s chilly in the summers (54 and partly cloudy right now!), and people go hiking or surfing or whatever instead. I have to say, I really miss the lake! It looks like you had an amazing time.

I’m in Duluth MN, and my mom is down in Naples FL, so I cherish the time I am able to spend with her! There is nothing like a momma’s advice.
