Did this weekend fly by for anyone else out there? Our weekend was the perfect combination of fun and relaxing.
Here are some highlights!
- Saturday Day Date
Ryan and I had a lovely day date on Saturday! It began with lunch at Earth Origins. We both hit up the salad bar and filled up on delicious greens, shrimp, tuna salad and vegetables.
Earth Origins carries my favorite flavored water, so naturally I bought a bottle of the Ayala ginger lemon peel water to quench my thirst. Ryan and I also split an Alternative Baking Company pumpkin spice cookie. The cookie is vegan and totally delicious! If you’re looking for a fantastic vegan pumpkin cookie and see this one at your local grocery store, scoop it up!
- Divergent
After lunch, we walked to the local movie theatre and saw a matinee for $6. (I think I am slowly becoming desensitized to the cost of movie tickets because I thought $6 was super cheap!)
Ryan and I loved the book Divergent by Veronica Roth and couldn’t wait to see the movie. (Side note: Did you know Veronica Roth was only 21 when she wrote Divergent!?)
As for the movie, I liked it but I didn’t love it. I really, really liked the book and thought the movie was entertaining enough, but not fabulous. As for whether or not I will see the next movie when it comes out? Absolutely.
- Boat Day
Ryan and I spent our entire Sunday on our friends’ boat with two couples and their adorable kids. It was glorious! The weather was cloudy for most of the day, but we still had a great time hanging out on the water, snacking and drinking.
Two delicious but not-so-healthy highlights:
Seagram’s Escapes Strawberry Daiquiri
Marshmallow Crispy Oreos
- Dinner at Stumpknocker’s
Yes, that really is the name of a restaurant! This was a highlight not because of the food but because of the atmosphere. (The food was good but not fantastic.) After a day on the boat, our group stopped by Stumpknocker’s for dinner on the way back to Ocala last night and had a blast watching the airboats take off on the river right outside of the restaurant.
I picked up a brochure and saw that an hour ride on an airboat is only $15! Not too shabby! Ryan and I have officially added “go for an airboat ride” to our date list!
- House of Cards
Thanks to my friend Leah’s recommendation, Ryan and I started watching House of Cards this weekend. We began the show on Friday night and watched a few episodes before bed last night. It’s already starting to suck us in!
And now Monday morning is here and it’s time to work. I hope you guys had a fabulous weekend!

Highlight of my weekend was having an entire day off from work yesterday. I needed a break and it was PERFECT! I didn’t do a whole lot, just got caught up on work but it was nice to be able to relax and try to get this cold to go away!
Heidi @ Idlehide says
Highlight of my weekend was hosting a fun shower for my SIL and getting a good post-baby run in!
Kind of envious of your boat trip! We’re forecasted to get 40-50 cm of snow this Wednesday, isn’t that crazy?! I’m hoping it’s the last snow storm for this year 🙂
Brittany says
Looks like such a fun weekend. I’m jealous that it’s warm enough there to be out on a boat.
Weekend highlights for me = getting in a great outdoor run and having a delicious Cuban dinner on Saturday night with friends. 🙂
Jenn@ Mark My Miles! says
Sounds like a perfect weekend. Hope you have a great Monday1
Ali says
That sounds like a nice weekend. That airboat looks cool! I had a nice weekend too with lots of quiet family time on the agenda!
Parita @ myinnershakti says
House of Cards is one of my favorite shows on “TV” right now. My husband and I finished season 2 in half the time it took us to watch season 1. Netflix makes it too easy to watch episode after episode (our record is 6 in one day!). Glad you’re liking it so far…just stick with it! Gets better with every episode!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
I ran a half marathon this weekend and beat my goal time by 1:30! It was definitely my highlight and my low point as I really struggled through the run and it was flipping cold! No boat riding around my parts this time of year 😉 Sounds like you had a great weekend though!
Laura@SneakersandSpatulas says
That is super speedy!!!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
No I beat my goal time by 1 minute, 30 seconds. I ran it in 2:13, not speedy! ha ha
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
What a fun weekend! I’m definitely look out for those Oreos in the store. They sound amazing! One highlight of my weekend was the fact that weather was near perfect on Saturday (it finally warmed up) and we could get out and enjoy the fresh air!
Laura@SneakersandSpatulas says
My highlight was completing a 40 mile bike ride as part of my half Ironman training. It was tiring but I felt so accomplished after!
Julie says
That’s awesome! High five to you!!
Jackie says
Quality time with my boyfriend!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
um $6 is SUPER cheap! It’s always $12 here in Chicago! And I’m dying to see that movie!
Taylor says
One highlight of my weekend was getting to serve my students at a fraternity conference! It’s refreshing to hear about all of the amazing service they do within their communities!
Jess @dearhealthyness says
The air boeat ride looks sooo much fun!!! I saw Divergent too, and I couldn’t avoid to think in The Hunger Games, though I’ve heard nice critics of the book. Maybe I need to read it! The highlight of the weekend was cleaning the house, just for the fun of turning the music on and dance with the vacuum, weird I know!
brooke says
A highlight from my weekend was planting shrubs in our flower bed and staying out until 12:30am(we never do that!) Ahh! I love house of cards! My husband and I have been sucked in and I think we’re only 4 episodes deep! Enjoy!
Kaelene @Unlocking Kiki says
House of Cards sucked me in this weekend as well, hooked on that show now!
Julie says
It’s addicting!
Jessica says
Sounds like you had a great weekend! Highlight of my weekend, going HERE https://www.rokaakor.com/san-francisco/ and HERE http://www.bubblelounge.com/san-francisco/ to celebrate my friends birthday! So fun.
I’m sad to hear Divergent was a bit disappointing, I had some high hopes for it! Maybe media just hyped it up too much?
House of Cards is SO addictive. Easily the best show out right now..in my humble opinion : )
Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine says
ahhh what a fun weekend! My weekend highlight was brunching with friends outside because it is finally spring! (and the biscuit and smoked salmon were not too bad) Loving this weather!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
This weekend definitely flew by!! I was happy to have the balance of fun and relaxing too!
Christine@ Apple of My Eye says
Sounds like a great weekend! There’s something so therapeutic about being gently rocked by a boat :).
Leah @ goodnightcheese says
The highlight of my weekend was finally seeing Frozen. I know, I was living under a rock. It was wonderful!
Jamie @ Sometimes Healthy Living Blog says
Soo many things I could comment on this post:
1) Marshmallow crispy Oreos! What? Those exist. How did I not realize this?
2) Boating. That has to be one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend. So relaxing!
3) House of Cards. Love love love this show. I gotta say – it gets a bit darker in the second season, so be prepared. Still, it’s pretty awesome!
Highlight from my weekend – watching March Madness. There were TWO teams from Nebraska in the tournament. Sadly, now we’re down to 0 but it was fun while it lasted 🙂
Ashley Pitt @ A Lady Goes West says
I’ve been on an airboat ride before in the Everglades. It’s totally fun, but loud – beware!
My weekend highlight included going to see Cinderella the ballet at the San Francisco Ballet, it was a lovely fancy Sunday matinee.
Happy Monday to you!

My weekend highlight was completing a 6 mile run when I thought I could only make it 4! 🙂

What a great sounding weekend! It was sunny and warm in Phoenix. I enjoyed a salad lunch outside too! It was so refreshing and relaxing. House of cards is addicting!
Dana @ Conscious Kitchen Blog says
Yes this weekend went by so quickly! We have friends in from out of town and we made homemade pizza. We had a blast cooking, laughing and of course enjoying our pizza!
Emily says
You are the third person I’ve heard this weekend to suggest House of Cards. Guess I’d better check it out!
Allie says
Speaking of Veronica Roth and Divergent, I thought it was really cool how she was in the zip lining scene.
Cassy @ on the "in"side says
My highlight: going for a 7 mile run along the river, then eating a yummy brunch of buttermilk pancakes with vanilla bean syrup! Followed by some family time – not too shabby!
Julie says
Oh man now I want buttermilk pancakes!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Those Oreos look amazing!
I’m going to see Divergent this Friday and am so excited! I love the books (except for the last few chapters of the last one)
As for something I’m loving: Scandal!! I discovered it this weekend and much to my husbands dismay have been binge watching nonstop since. I’m kind of obsessed. ;p
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
OMG House of Cards is SO addicting! My boyfriend and I plowed through both seasons in just a couple weeks!
Chelsea @ BigBitesLittleBudget says
Just started watching House of Cards with my man this weekend as well. I’m hooked already!

Natalie @ Free Range Human says
Those were my thoughts exactly on the Divergent movie. It was just good, but not fantastic!
Brynn says
I always assume the movie will not stand up to the book. For some reason they usually fall short. However, I think the Hunger Games may be one exception. The movies aren’t the same as the books, but I really enjoy them!
Julie says
Totally agree!
Kelsie says
I ran my 5th half marathon in a year!
Julie says
You are an animal! Congrats!
Jen @ impossible jen says
i ran the hot chocolate 15k in san diego on sunday. it was a lot of fun but sooo many hills, made my time a little longer than i would have liked. but still, chocolate at the finish line, yes please!
Taylor says
I completely agree with you about Divergent…it was good but not great. Thought the acting was great and loved the shots in Chicago, but I feel like they fell short in developing the character’s relationships and they were not nearly as strong as they were in the book which bummed me out! Still worth the watch though!
Traci says
A great yoga class was the highlight of my weekend! That, and the chicken fajitas with lots of guacamole I made for dinner on Saturday night.
I’m not sure if you have either a Whole Foods or Fairway Market nearby in Florida, but I spotted Ayala waters there! I tried the peppermint/spearmint version and thought it was great.
Julie says
That flavor sounds amazing!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
why is oreo coming out with ridiculously good sounding oreos?!?!? i am dying to get my hands on the birthday cake flavor, but can’t find it anywhere!!
Charlotte says
What a coincidence–the highlight of my weekend was air boating! I went to visit my dad in Orlando and we all went on an airboat ride in Christmas, FL. It was incredible!! We saw 30 gators and 2 bald eagles! Plus, the airboat itself is just so much fun. They take the turns at some totally thrilling speeds. 🙂
Rachel says
I also saw Divergent this weekend. I went Friday night and saw it on IMAX theater for $17.50. I went to the 11pm showing, the theater was quiet with not a lot of noisy teenagers. I was thinking the other day about I am too old to go out to the movies that late. A matinee for $6 would have been much cheaper.
Divergent was a good movie, but I agree, it was not excellent, nor was it on the level of Hunger Games.
Ayala’s Herbal Water is great. I like the lemongrass vanilla flavor, as well as the lavender. The company is based out of Philly, so the stuff is super cheap around here! I like to stock up.
Ally @ The Zebra Runner says
Hi! I am a newbie blogger and I would love if you’d check mine out!
Samantha @ Anatomy of My World says
As much as I loved the Divergent books I know I need to see the movie but I’m sad that it didn’t live up to your expectations! I will definitely be checking it out for myself…. but I know that movies are neverrrrr as good as books!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
One highlight of my weekend was watching frozen for the first time with my nieces! They’ve seen it approximately 50 times already so they sang along and said almost every line- haha it was so adorable 🙂 Then we got ice cream! Best aunt award right here!
Madeline C says
My husband and I started watching House of Cards on Friday night as well! It’s totally addicting! I’m glad we’re old fashioned and don’t have watch instantly, or else, we’d be in trouble. Waiting on the second disc to arrive this week!
Ashley says
oh goodness i am obsessed with those cookies! pumpkin is my favorite flavor, but they’re all great. lemon poppyseed? YUM!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I liked Divergent the book too–but I do want to see the movie, mostly because I just NEED to b/c I read the book. Haha! Have you finished the series?
Highlight for me was skiing with my fam (and husband)!
Nikki says
I absolutely love House of Cards. I binge watched the entire second season in 2 days. I thought I had more episodes to watch but then realized I was at the end. It was such a sad day.
Michelle says
Sounds like a great weekend! I wish it was warm enough here to go out on a boat. I miss doing that!
My weekend was pretty busy with schoolwork, so the highlight probably would have been watching Frozen for the first time with my boyfriend. We both enjoyed it!
I have yet to read Divergent, so I’m holding off on the movie till whenever I can get around to reading it. I want to, though!
I’ve been interested in watching House of Cards, as well. I’ve heard great things about it.
