I bought that particular jar of wheat germ on Sunday and ate all that you see is missing from the above picture straight from the jar with a spoon. I’m special. ![]()
I figured it was time to use the germ in an actual recipe! After taking Sadie on a short walk in the rain (she toughed it in her rain coat), I came home and got to work in the kitchen.
Since Ryan had to work late, I figured I would make a meal I know he loves… which is basically anything involving chicken.
I took two large chicken breasts and dredged them in a scrambled raw egg before rolling them in a mixture of 1/4 cup wheat germ and 1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs.
I then baked the chicken in the oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. While the chicken was baking, I roasted broccoli and cauliflower in the oven as well to enjoy on the side. (Ah! I still owe you guys a video on how to roast veggies! I’ll get on that ASAP!)
After snapping this picture, I grabbed some BBQ sauce to use as dip for the chicken because I wanted a little extra flavah!
And then, about 30 minutes after dinner, my sweet tooth started kickin’.
I shut it up with a smoothie bowl!
In the mix:
- 1 c. frozen strawberries
- 1 c. almond milk
- 1 tbsp. cocoa powder
- 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
- 2 pinches xanthan gum
- 2 handfuls fresh spinach
Don’t be surprised if you see this bad boy resurface in the morning. ![]()
Until then, I’m off to watch Cupcake Wars and dream about Sunday when Lent officially ends and I can eat my bodyweight in sweets.
I already exchanged many texts with my sister today about what flavor I want my birthday cake to be! I’m celebrating my birthday (which is actually next Wednesday) with my family on Sunday night and have requested an ice cream cake. Cake + ice cream + icing… throw some cookies and brownies in there and I’ll knock out nearly every dessert I’ve missed during the Lenten season in one swoop!
I already have a tummy-ache from the sweets I plan to eat on Sunday. =)
Okay, I guess I am not so weird after all! Lately, I have been on a RAW OATMEAL kick! Yes, an obscene amount of totally, completely uncooked oatmeal has been eaten with yogurt, with cottage cheese, or with just a splash of soy milk! It is such a relief to see other people who have the same love for for food in its purest form 🙂
I just got back from a trip to London and unfortunately Longchamp bags are NOT cheaper over there…nothing is cheaper over there : ( I want the same one you do! Nordstrom occasionally has some on sale…but they are a little bit different style than the traditional one you want. You should just get it! They are PERFECT for travelling, great carry on and great to have when walking around a big city so that you can toss anything in there that you may not want to carry in hand.
Glad your birthday is after Lent 😉
I wonder if there is a gluten-free alternative that is similar to wheat germ.
I have only been reading your site for a coupld of months now, but you inspired me to give up sweets for Lent as well (mostly an exercise in selfj-control). My birthday is next Monday (4/25) and I can’t wait to celebrate with homemade red velvet cake for mine! Thanks for helping inspire me! 🙂
My mom eats wheat germ out of the jar. It really used to gross me out! I thought she was the only one 🙂
i totally eat oatmeal straight from the jar haha. I used to eat wheat germ growing upp alll the time! my mom always put it on our yogurt! I should go get some, its been yearrsss
Your smoothies look SO UNREAL.
I must try them out soon…
I own a Magic Bullet, but would LOVE a vitamix! They’re crazy expensive though!….eventually 😉
What is the first thing you are planning on eating once lent is over?
