Chestnuts Roasting in a Yogurt Bowl

April 1, 2011 by Julie 51 Comments

Fridays are officially my favorite day of the week. Yes, I know part of the day is spent at work, but I love the excitement in the air and the anticipation of two days away from the office.

Plus, my gym offers my favorite boot camp class on Friday mornings!

Before the class, Ryan and I completed 20 minute of cardio split between incline walking on the treadmill and the elliptical.

As I was refilling my water bottle at the water fountain and chatting with Ryan before boot camp, a woman at the gym pointed out our matchy-matchy attire.

Apparently we were both feelin’ the black and red combo this morning! Believe it or not, Ryan and I have found ourselves dressing in coordinated outfits several times before. Twins!

Walk + Breakfast

Once boot camp was over, my friend Merri joined me, Ryan and Sadie for a 40-minute walk around  the lake near our apartment. (She also snapped the above picture in case you were wondering.)

After our walk, it was time for breakfast!

Today I made myself a yogurt bowl that was full of goodies! (I also ate a small banana with a thick smear of peanut butter that went undocumented.)

In the mix:

  • Greek yogurt
  • Mango
  • Apple
  • Chestnuts
  • Honey

The chestnuts were such a fun addition! They added a bit of a savory flavor and a cool texture to the yogurt bowl.

I ate this up while blogging away because that’s how I roll.

Last day of work before the weekend!!! Open-mouthed smile

P.S. The Fashion page was updated this morning.

I’ve never had chesnuts before – what are they comparable too?

Oh and your matchy matchy outfits are hysterical! All you need is to buy Sadie a few outfits too so she can join in on the fun 😉

    Enjoy FRIDAY!

My sister and I used to always leave the house realizing we had matching outfits on, and because I’m the older one (LOL) I would always make her go change! (Yes, I’m cruel!) But to be fair, I was always the one up and dressed first. Have a great Friday Julie!

I love that you guys match — Jason and I do that at the gym a lot — we have a few of the same shirts (from races) and I feel like such a dork, but at least people know we are together!

I decided to try a morning workout this morning because you allways seem to have a lot of time at night to enjoy instead of rushing around. I got there 10 minutes early (in the pouring rain and 30 degree weather) and my spin class was booked! I wish they also had a bootcamp because t hat would be a better way to kick off my weekend!

Hahaha I love the matching outfits. My boyfriend and I have done that by accident a few times too- the best was when I wore a white and pale pink sundress, and he wore white shorts and a pink button down. It looked like he was so whipped, when in reality he chose that outfit himself 🙂

    Hi Julie,

I read your blog every so often and really enjoy it! Sorry I’ve never commented before, but I am a full time graduate student trying to get my MA in just one year, so l basically never have enough time to leave a comment!

The reason why I’m commenting now is to bring up something important I noticed in today’s post. While I think that picture of you, Ryan and Sadie is adorable, the position in which Sadie is in is cause for concern. Not a lot of dog owners realize this, but you have to be VERY careful when larger dogs are put in this position. The reason for this is that the stomachs in large dogs can actually flip upside down. (Weird and scary, I know!) It’s not entirely known why this can happen, but vets recommend being very careful about allowing dogs to prop themselves upright (as Sadie is in this photo) and to never allow your dog to tilt their back beyond this point, as this inverted position can lead to the stomach flipping. If a dog’s stomach flips, it will need immediate, not to mention expensive, surgery. Stomach flipping is very painful for the dog and can be deadly.

I’m sorry to leave such a sober post, but I just wanted to warn you because I’m sure you love Sadie just as much as I love my large dogs and wouldn’t want any harm to come to her! I also chose to write this in a comment, rather than in a personal email, because I’m hoping any other readers with large dogs might read this as well. As I said before, not a lot of dog owners are aware of this issue, probably because this problem doesn’t apply to small dogs, which people often pick up and play with by turning them upside down. I only learned about stomach flipping because this happened to my aunt’s dog. I strongly recommend you do research to see if the issue of stomach flipping applies to Sadie’s dog breed and that you ask your vet about the best way to prevent this.

I’m a huge dog lover (especially a big dog lover!) and just want to ensure the best for these lovable creatures! On a less serious note, your blog really is a wonderful read, and a nice break from my studies. Oh, and chestnuts sound like a delicious addition!
