You’d Think…
Good afternoon!
I’ve spent the day catching up on neglected work from the weekend, including sending out some invoices for freelance projects. I always make sure to send out freelance articles on time but am terrible about sending out the corresponding invoices to ensure I am paid for my work. You’d think I want to work for free or something. (Not true.)
It reminds me of this picture that my sister sent to me that she found on Pinterest:
(Source)
Wooord.
I also had a lunchtime meeting at the local college to work on the website and social media outlets for the Taste of Ocala. I think I’m going to be the one manning the Taste of Ocala social media accounts, so if you’re a local Okie Dokie (<—what Ryan and I call Ocala residents), I’ll be sure to post links to everything when they’re up. Then we can all eat and drink the night away on May 5!
Lunch
I ended up eating my morning snack a little later than usual, so I didn’t eat lunch before my meeting and by the time it was over my stomach was growling and I needed something fast. (I need to start keeping emergency snacks in my purse.)
I booked it home and made myself a veggie burger on a toasted whole wheat bagel with tomato, cucumber, spinach and spicy mustard.
I ate the burger with two Babybel light cheese wedges and a cup of Oikos key lime Greek yogurt.
Ryan and I are convinced that if you crumbled up graham cracker crust pieces on top of the key lime pie Greek yogurt, you’d have a legitimate dessert.
Great lunch!

Haha–love that PIN. Seriously–who works for free anymore?!
I love Greek yogurt in the middle of the day…..you just inspired my mid-afternoon snack, my friend. Thanks

What brand bagels do you guys get?
It seems like my local store ONLY carries Thomas’ brand. And, they are good… but yours look remarkably better!

that looks like such a yummy lunch! i’m always so tempted to buy some premade veggie burgers, but i never want to pay for them because i feel like they’re an “extra” thing that i don’t really need. this time i might just have to bite the bullet and buy them. they would make such an easy lunch or dinner option! then again… there comes in my guilt of being lazy… ha. we’ll see.

That sounds amazing! I just had key lime pie for the first time ever recently, and I’m hooked. Key lime yogurt + graham cracker sounds like a great healthy alternative!

Sounds like such a fun community service project! They are lucky to have you and your social media knowledge! I am curious about the freelance writing invoices. After your articles are published you have to ask to receive your payment? The magazines/newspapers/etc don’t automatically pay you for your work? Just wondering a little more how that all works. Thanks!

nope! i’m usually paid after i submit an article and submit a corresponding invoice. payment usually comes before it’s actually published.

I think graham crackers alone are a FANTASTIC dessert or midday snack, or breakfast hehe. I hate that feeling – when you’re starving and you run into the kitchen and try to make your food as fast as possible. Emergency snacks are key!

Do you have a program or software that you use for invoices, or is it more of a general “Here’s what you owe me” letter?
(And your lunch looks delicious! I’m a sucker for fresh toppings and some mustard!)

I’ve never seen this flavor of greek yogurt! I must find it soon!!! I read your post this afternoon before I left work and stopped at Publix on my way home but they didn’t have that flavor (and I LOVE key lime pie). I’ll keep trying though. I was even going to buy graham crackers to crumble on it

Haha I’m going to have to tell my Ocala friends about the okie dokie nickname. I’m curious about the taste of Ocala. I lived in Gainesville for school and we always thought Ocala only had cows (which I know not to be true bc of your blog).

Have you ever thought of doing a post on how you got into freelancing? It’s something I’m trying to get into, but I’m having a hard time finding out which job descriptions are legitimate, and who to communicate with. If you don’t want to do a whole post on it, I can email you..but it’s something I’m really interested in

I totally get you on the freelance ain’t free thing. I can’t tell you how many postings there are asking for designers and not wanting to pay anything! If I wanted to “build my portfolio” I’d do it on my own time with my own personal projects! Not on a website that’s going to take me 80 hours. People are ridic and I am ranting. The end.

I just finished up my 2011 accounting, as I worked on a ship for the last four months of the year and was a bit mentally checked out, and I thought I was all squared away only to find that I had five outstanding invoices amounting for a total of just over $3,000 (all of which I had invoiced, too…you neglected to add that oftentimes, you have to send invoices multiples times…once, it took me 11 months to be paid for a feature I wrote for Real Simple). Don’t you wish it were standard to include a late fee in freelance writing? (It should be.)
