Chocolate in the Morning

January 5, 2011 by Julie 41 Comments

Who doesn’t love a little chocolate in the morning? Chocolate chip pancakes. Chocolate yogurt mousse. Chocolate ricotta protein pancakes. I love ’em all.

But my favorite chocolatey breakfast is the chocolatyist breakfast of all.

Brownie batter hot cereal!

Chocolate Powdahs

I love how fast this bowl of chocolate goodness comes together! I simply combine one serving of Flax-Z-Snax hot cereal (you can easily substitute oats) with one scoop of All the Whey chocolate peanut butter cup protein powder and one tablespoon of cocoa powder.

After adding water to moisten everything up (add more water than you might think!), I microwave it for about 90 seconds, stopping to stir it regularly, until it’s thick and ready for eatin’.

Done Deal

Spoonful of Chocolate for Breakfast = Heaven

This breakfast satisfies my sweet tooth, packs a protein punch and keeps me full. Win!

My bowl of brownie batter hot cereal hit the spot after BodyPump and 20 minutes on the elliptical this morning. Not a bad post-workout reward.

In the words of the seven dwarfs (and Dopey Sadie), hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work I go!

I love chocolate protein oats but I got a little burned out of them so I have been adding vanilla protein powder and some low-sugar strawberry jam…SO GOOD!!! But I am sure I will tire of this soon enough and chocolate will make its return! 🙂

Love this idea. I’m trying to up the flavor on my morning oats – this is great! This morning I had a light pb&j on a cinnamon raisin sandwich thin – have you tried those yet? I just found them and they are SO good and smell heavenly when toasted!

Julie! I have wanted the darn All The Whey protein powder ever since you mentioned to cake batter flavor (oomggg, I would go nuts), but every time I go to the website, it’s backordered!

Do you always get it online?

I ran outside yesterday. I was snotty, my lungs burned, and I thought of you and your mutual hate for cold runs. I also blogged about it. 😉

I am not alone with wondering how to order All The Whey… their flavors sound great! Cinnamon Bun, Cupcake Batter, Peanut Butter Cup… the stores in my area simply do not stock this brand or these decadent-sounding flavors! I found a couple websites that sell ATW products, but it’d be so awesome if they set you up with a PBF link / code so that you can benefit from telling us about it… just sayin’! 🙂 I bet quite a few of us would buy through your link!

My oats were a bust this morning. I’m not quite sure what I did wrong but they were an inedible brown clump of yuck.

I did 1/2 cup of instant oats, 1 scoop of chocolate whey protein powder, 1 tbs of peanut butter powder, and 1 tbs of cocoa powder. Added a little bit of water to moisten it up and it looked glorious.

However, as they cooked, I felt the need to keep adding more water b/c they looked dry and goopy. By the end of 90 seconds I thought they’d taste better than they looked. Nadda. 🙁

What did I do wrong? I really wanted to love this.
