“Meeting” Modern Family"

April 26, 2012 by Julie 88 Comments

After a big spaghetti dinner last night, my mom, sister, Ryan and I headed to Ruth Eckerd Hall for An Evening with the Cast of Modern Family.

We weren’t really sure what to expect, as the description of the show made it seem like almost one big informal conversation with the cast. In the end, the format reminded me a lot of Inside the Actors Studio, but more laid back and incredibly funny.

A moderator asked questions to the actors who play the parts of Phil, Claire, Mitchell and Cameron on Modern Family. The last 30 minutes of the show opened up the floor for questions from the audience.

It was really neat to see how their personalities differ from their characters. I want to hang out with Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) all day long.

He was so witty and seems like a total blast.

Eric Stonestreet (Cam) was much more sarcastic and crude than I expected (and also very much straight!), but he was very funny. (Crude humor isn’t lost on me.) Ty Burrell (Phil) seemed like he is Phil in real life, but less oblivious and very quick-witted. I also loved Julie Bowen (Claire) and found her so down-to-earth and incredibly likeable. She was a bit of an over-sharer and I thought that quality made her seem so “un-Hollywood” and more like a girlfriend you’d want to grab drinks with anytime. (Example: She talked about her water breaking when she was pregnant and how it felt like 1,000 warm eggs trickling down her legs… which made Jesse Tyler Ferguson gag profusely and “cemented his preference for men.”)

My family and I left agreeing that it must be so much fun to be an actor on that show. Each actor was very funny in real life and they all seemed very grateful for their success and also quite grounded which was great to see.

I face-planted in bed around 11:30 p.m. and awoke around 6:30 a.m. to a very energetic Sadie.

Since my dad and I were the first ones awake (as usual), I sipped on a mug of hot tea and typed up this blog post (and added your links to the upcoming book review post this afternoon!) as my dad read the newspaper beside me.

It feels good to be home even if we’re about to leave in a few hours!

Breakfast

Before going to bed last night, I made a giant batch of overnight oats for me and my family to eat this morning in an effort to save some time since I had a feeling I might feel a bit rushed trying to cram in a workout, blogging and last minute vacation preparations before we hit the road in the mid-morning.

It was my dad’s first time trying overnight oats and he was a big fan! He said he wasn’t sure cold oats would be his thing, but in the end he liked them a lot. For people who hate overnight oats, I think it’s largely a texture thing or the inability to get over eating oatmeal cold, but he hopped over these obstacles and ate every last bite.

Time to change and head out to sneak in some last minute exercise with my sister before we’re off on our CRUISE!!!

I have a whole bunch of blog posts planned while I am away, so PBF will still be alive and kickin’, but I will not personally be popping back in until Monday morning.

See ya again when I’m 27!!!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

This sounds like such a fun night!! It would be so cool to be on a cast where everyone is funny and just jokes back and forth like that! I’m surprised to hear Cam has crude humor– in my mind, he’s just like his character!

What an incredible evening! One of those actors grew up in my town and still has family here. We see him around town a few times each year. And his brother volunteers at my daughter’s school. Both seem like really nice men!

I agree with some previous comments – Jesse Tyler Ferguson was HILARIOUS on So You Think You Can Dance. He probably was one of my favorite guest judges all season (topped only SLIGHTLY by Neal Patrick Harris, who I am completely in love with).

    Also, Happy Early Birthday!!
