CFLBlogCon Eve

September 14, 2012 by Julie 44 Comments

Today is flying by for me. Fast Fridays are always a good thing, especially when fun activities are on the agenda for the weekend.

Tomorrow morning I’ll be driving to Orlando for the Central Florida Blogger and Social Media Conference (CFLBlogCon). The conference began last year and was actually the first blogging conference I ever attended!

central florida blogger conference attendees

CFLBlogCon is a one-day conference that covers a variety of topics related to blogging and social media. (You can see my recap of last year’s conference here.) It’s smaller than a lot of other blogging conferences, but that’s what I loved about it last year. It felt intimate and comfortable, which was perfect since I was new to the whole blogging conference thing.

I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait to catch up with some of my Orlando blogging buddies and Lisa, my friend, former coworker and book blogger extraordinaire at the conference! (Lisa is the one who recommended I read Divergent which ended up being one of the best books I read last year. If you liked The Hunger Games and enjoy dystopian novels, I highly recommend it! I know I’ve recommended it on the blog a handful of times before, but it was just so darn good!)

Workout

I managed to make it to the gym today around lunchtime for the final workout of Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp. It was bittersweet to finish the boot camp! I’ve loved the workouts and never felt burned out during the entire eight weeks of the program.

For those who asked me to share my results after following the boot camp, I didn’t take any measurements before or after starting Best Body Boot Camp and haven’t really noticed a change on the scale. My motivation for following the boot camp was simply having a fun exercise plan to follow, so I wasn’t really keeping track of physical changes and don’t have much to report on that end.

In terms of strength or cardiovascular improvements, I do feel stronger! I have specifically noticed improvements in my pushups and certain plyometric exercises. Burpees still kick my fanny, but they’re not quite as horrific.

The real reasons I love Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp:

  • The workouts are fast-paced
  • The workouts often incorporate supersets and circuits which are my favorite
  • Having a workout plan to follow keeps me motivated
  • I’m less likely to slack off if I have a detailed plan to follow at the gym
  • It’s only $25

In my mind, finding a fitness plan you love or exercise you enjoy is key and this boot camp fits the bill for me! I’m sorry I don’t have more detailed results to share, but those are my thoughts on the program as a whole now that it’s over.

Lunch

Lunch today was a bit strange. I prepared a batch of overnight oats after breakfast this morning to eat tomorrow morning before the conference and ended up eating them for lunch today instead.

Whoops.

What can I say? They were calling to me from the fridge!

I also made myself chocolate protein smoothie with chocolate protein powder, dark chocolate cocoa powder, spinach, milk and frozen bananas.

I have seen so many great reviews of Divergent but I am hesitant to read because that isn’t normally the genre I am drawn too. However, I LOVED The Hunger Games trilogy so maybe I should give it a try……..

I would now! Though any conferences I attended while working for a software company…were EXTREMELY boring to say the least and usually involved a red eye flight and the last flight home followed by a couple of days of playing catch up!

I’ve been to a conference related to my job b/c my job threw the conference, other than that, nope. Although I’d love to!

Hi Julie! First of all, I hope you have lots of fun tomorrow at the conference!
After the boot camp training, where is your training focus going to be? Do you plan on following another specific training? Your workouts always inspire me to do mine!

Love that you at your ONOs today for lunch instead of waiting for tomorrow. 🙂

Huge thanks to Lisa for recommending Divergent to you — you recommended it to me and I LOVELOVELOVED it!! Did you hear that the movie will be out March 21st, 2014? haha. I’m looking forward to it already! 🙂

I love circuits too. They are awesome! Oh and Divergent was SO good! <–I think they're making a movie too?

Do you have to be in a gym to do the boot camp workouts? I have been thinking about signing up in October but I don’t have a gym membership, I do all my workouts at home with weights and other small equipment.

I used to be a teacher and loved going to conferences with my fellow teachers. I learned so much new stuff to use in the classroom. Plus, I had so much in common with everyone there, that we always had a great time. The funny thing is that I have been to conferences with my husband for his job and I love those too. Even though it has nothing to do with anything that I like! I always want to join his field after leaving. I think I am a conference junkie. I would want to join whatever profession of conference I attended because everyone there is so excited about their jobs. 🙂

Conferences always seems to have a high-energy, which make them a great atmosphere for generating new ideas.

    Hey Julie,

I have wanted to tell you how much I love and appreciate your blog by telling you my story. My step dad died a year ago at the age of 56. Due a large part to the fact he was an obese man. I have wanted to improve my health for awhile now. I am not an obese person. Just a little over weight according to the weight chart and my height. I don’t want it to be about weight but rather health.
I always thought I would do better if I had a friend to exercise with. My best friend is too busy with family and work to consider herself for even a moment. I worry about her. My coworkers live so far apart, it is hard to schedule time together. My neighbors don’t like walking with me because I walk too fast for them. So it seems I don’t have anyone to help me.
Never fear, I continue to try to do this by myself and the internet. I found your blog and Tina’s blog and a few others that I follow for inspiration. I am taking baby steps in the right direction. I try to walk 4 mornings a week for 20 minutes. I am trying to watch my portion sizes when I eat. I am reading you and others for inspiration. I love, love, love your smoothies!!! I just wanted you to know I have made you my partner in this (not in a weird way), but I am doing the work by myself.
I feel good. I feel like I am headed in the right direction, and I thank you for the wonderful blogs you share with the world.
Bless you and all you do
    Heidi
