High Thai

March 21, 2013 by Julie 69 Comments

Last night I had plans to meet up with my friends Minda and Brett for dinner.

Minda and I were suitemates for several years in college and she is immersed in wedding planning at the moment. (You might remember when we met up and went bridesmaid dress shopping in December!) I met Brett through Minda in college (they’ve been friends since childhood) and it was great to see her again, too!

We met up a little after 6 p.m. at Mai Thai in Jacksonville. Earlier that day, I had a pretty fabulous speech-to-text fail surrounding these plans…

High Thai

So, so great.

When I arrived, I found Brett and Minda sipping on some hot green tea which sounded perfect. It was a little chilly and raining rather hard when I arrived and drinking tea in a cozy restaurant with friends was the perfect way to spend a dreary Wednesday night.

For dinner I ordered the Gang Keow Whan (green curry in coconut milk with mixed vegetables and jasmine rice).

Mai Thai Jacksonville

It was fantastic. The coconut milk made it extra creamy and the different spices they used in the curry were phenomenal. I need to find an awesome Thai place in Ocala!

We ended up hanging out for more than two hours and I loved every minute of it.

Breakfast

This morning I was up in the four o’clock hour. My dad had an early flight out of the Jacksonville airport and I said I’d drop him off which meant that we were awake at 4:20 a.m. Yikes!

I’m hoping that my early wake up time will make it easier for me to fall asleep on my evening flight to London and help me adjustment to the time change a little easier. 4:20 a.m. in Jacksonville is 8:20 a.m. in London, after all!

Once I got back from dropping my dad off at the airport, I hopped back into bed with my laptop (and Sadie) and worked until my morning appetite started talking to me.

Snug as a bug in a rug.

For breakfast, I made myself a yogurt bowl with vanilla Greek yogurt, dried fruit, Cheerios and a spoonful of almond butter.

I also ate a couple of handfuls of trail mix as I was assembling my yogurt bowl.

Time to get things rollin’!

I tried curry for the first time a few weeks ago and I have been craving it ever since. I wanted to try making it myself but the husband is not a fan. 🙁 I agree with everyone else, you should send that speech to text fail to Ellen. 🙂

I love that Liberte yogurt, but the one you have in the picture is just regular- the greek one is in a different looking cup, wider and shorter. The regular yoghurt is like dessert, the coconut one is AWESOME.

If you make your way over to Sarasota again, head a little south and try Curry Creek Cafe in Nokomis. They have the best Red Curry I’ve ever tasted. Because the couple who own it are mixed (American & Indonesian), the menu features both cuisines. I like to go there every year when I visit my family down there.

    Hi Julie!
So, you probably don’t get many 14 year old girl followers… lol. I love your posts and I think you are super cool (especially for not being a teenager) as far as fashion and workouts and all 🙂 I remember you mentioned seeing a few plays at O.C.T. which I was in… Fiddler on the Roof or The King and I? But I just wanted to know what exactly your profession is- I know you’re a writer/editor, but how does your work schedule go? I am asking because I’m really into writing and literature, theater, and arts in general I’m also big on music (I sing and play the piano and flute). You not only seem to be great and creative in expressing yourself, but you are still able to enjoy the little things in each day like breakfast, cooking, and fashion. I love food. I’m also interested in cooking and I have used many of your smoothie ideas after swim practice xD. So I just wanted to know what exactly you had to do to get where you are in your career and educational background like college. What did you have to major in? I think what you do would be so much fun for me and we seem to share so many interests! (I’m Indian and I think your dishes from today look amazing ^.^) Ocala’s is so small, we’re bound to cross paths some times! I know for sure we have been to the same places. Please let me know about what you do and how you can still have fun rather than a miserable life in med school for me. lol Indians.

If you see this, then thank you for reading and please reply!!
    -Veda

P.S. I hope we can meet sometime.

    Hi, Julie!

I casually read your blog once in a while. the main reason why I started reading is because I am a fellow peanut butter lover and your blog name caught my eye! I rarely read comments, as I am more of a reader, but I just had to say what a small world it is! I now live in Phoenix, AZ but I grew up in Jacksonville and went to the same high school as Minda (I am a year ahead)! I also went to UCF … small world! I miss Florida and love seeing your adventures in familiar places.

    Take care!
    Kisha
