A Craving for Hummus

July 29, 2013 by Julie 70 Comments

Oh hey there! How is your Monday going?

Today is flyin’ by for this girl! I worked through the morning and taught water fitness for an instructor who is out this week. It was fun teaching to a new crowd and we did lots of intervals in the water to some rockin’ oldies!

Lunch

I ate the tuna salad that I packed in the break room after water fitness, but by the time I made it home later this afternoon, I was hungry for more.

snack plate

I fixed myself a sampler plate that included a toasted whole wheat English muffin topped with colby jack cheese and strawberry jelly, carrots with hummus and a nectarine.

Carrots and Hummus

I’m not sure what it is, but I’ve been loving hummus this summer. I’ve always liked it, but lately I’ve found myself eating it out of the container by the spoonful. Yum!

I think it may be time for me to break out my food processor and make some homemade hummus this week!

Here are some recipes that caught my eye:

  • Buffalo Hummus from Eclectic Recipes

Buffalo Hummus

  • Spinach Hummus from Snacking Squirrel

Spinach Hummus

  • Black Bean Hummus from Cooking Light

Back Bean Hummus

  • Roasted Red Pepper Hummus from Colourful Palate

  • Guacamole Hummus from Martha Stewart

Question of the Afternoon

  • What is your favorite healthy dip?

My sister’s fiancé makes the most fabulous dip that includes tons of fresh veggies, black beans, avocado and more. I’ll make it my mission to take notes the next time he makes it so I can share the recipe with you guys. It’s amazing!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

When you make hummus – peel the chickpeas! It’s a pain but SO worth it. 🙂

Oh I love all these ideas for hummus! Especially that spinach one – it looks super delicious! Then again, I love anything with spinach added.

I have a serious addiction to hummus, especially lately! It’s not uncommon for me to sit and eat enough veggies/crackers hummus to fully replace a meal. Oops! Besides hummus, I LOVE guac and homemade salsa. Can’t ever get enough1

I’d have to say my favorite healthy dip is hummus… or mango salsa! It’s a toss up.

If we’re not talking healthy I’d go with the smooth ranch dip. That stuff is tasty on just about anything but I just like dipping regular potato chips in it.

I make a peanut butter dip for crackers and pretzels!! It’s delicious and healthy. Mix 1/4 cup greek yogurt, 3 TBS natural smooth PB, and 2 tsp of honey for sweetness.

    So good!

I LOVE hummus and guacamole. Roasted Red Pepper is usually my favorite. However, making hummus at home is hard because the tahini required is expensive (and I’m cheap). Plus getting the consistency right is difficult! But if you perfect it, pass it along!

I’m not a huge hummus fan, not sure why. BUT I love Tzatziki, it is my favorite to dip fruits and veggies (or anything) in!
