Halloween Costumes for Dogs

September 20, 2013 by Julie 78 Comments

Good morning and happy Friday!

My Friday morning began with not-so-overnight oats. I forgot to prep the oats last night, so I prepared a batch this morning and let them soak while I made myself a cup of coffee and checked my emails. They weren’t really ready for eating by the time I wanted to dig in, so I just made it work.

I like cold oatmeal anyway, so this wasn’t too shabby. It just looks horrible.

Halloween Costumes for Dogs

Last night I had a lot of fun shopping with my friend Amanda. Her mother’s birthday is next week and Ryan’s birthday is October 5, so we teamed up to shop together after work and had a lot of fun in the process.

While we were out, we stumbled upon a pretty fabulous collection of Halloween costumes for dogs at TJMaxx.

I thought the donkey costume would look so cute on a dog with naturally droopy eyes like a sweet basset hound. They could pretend to be Eeyore!

We saw a wide range of costumes including cheerleader, turtle, lobster, skeleton and pumpkin costumes for dogs. Every costume was adorable and absolutely ridiculous at the same time. My favorite costume was the shark costume and I came pretty close to buying it for Sadie this year.

We always quote Finding Nemo and call Sadie “Shark Bait” (Oh Ha Ha!) whenever we swim in the ocean with her, so  it seemed like a very fitting selection. In the end I decided to forgo the purchase since Sadie usually just wears her little pumpkin t-shirt on Halloween.

Fun fact: Sadie’s name was actually Pumpkin before we got her and changed it to Sadie!

When I arrived home and told Ryan about the costume finds at TJMaxx, we had a good time looking up hilarious costumes online.

Here are some of our favorite finds:

The Harry Potter fan in me loved this one:

Chi-Chi-Chi-Chia:

That dog’s face cracks me up. Not amused.

It’s SuperDog:

I hope these adorable pups made you smile!

I am a school social worker in an elementary school. Each year I dress up for Halloween for our school costume parade. I like to bring my dog and dress him up in a coordinating costume. Ice been a bee keeper and he’s been the bee or a fisherman and he was a blow fish. The kids live it…my dog, a little humiliated:)

I have a dachshund and we dress her up every Halloween as a hot dog. She is always the hit of Halloween and she loves trick or treating.

Oh ya! My 60lb dog has been a dinosaur, witch, a hot dog and a shark! Living in FL, as you know, it can still be pretty warm late October and we usually don’t keep her costume on the whole time, but the neighborhood kids LOVE see her in costume 🙂

Haha love that dog costume where they’re carrying a present! How clever. I would love to dress my dog up, but I doubt he’d keep the costume on.

Love these! I saw the most hilarious dog costumes at Michae’s of all places. I love the ones at the pet stores, but they’re so overpriced. I totally need to hit up TJs now!

These costumes (especially the 2 dogs carrying the present) had me totally LOLing! Now that I have to dress 2 kids for Halloween – and my hubby and I for an ‘adult’ Halloween party! – I don’t even think about dressing up my dog. This post gave me inspiration though – maybe I’ll dress her up as a cheerleader….that would be too funny!!

My dog has a different costume every year.

He’s been a lobster, a shark, a can of beer, a skunk, and this year he’s going to be buzz lightyear

My parents get their dog little costumes. His favorite is the pirate costume. Last year, I got him an elf T-shirt for Christmas, and every time I put it on him, he looked so miserable, like, “I look like such a dork! I’m telling dad!” He was adorable. Don’t let the pitiful face fool you.

I actually bought the turtle costume from there for my little lhasa aspso mix and he hates it but he looks too cute in it for me to care that much! Halloween can’t come sooner.

I have! I used to dress my late little maltese-westie cross up as a hula girl on Halloween. Yes, complete with the grass skirt, coconut bra, seashell collar and flower clip in her hair. She loved it and would strut around the house like a queen bee.

Haha this is hilarious! I have never dressed up my pet in a Halloween costume. I don’t think I ever will either. I am too cheap to buy our dogs costumes. 🙂

We were shopping at Petco Unleashed the other day and came across this little gem for our sassy bulldog, Tortuga:

My husband, MY HUSBAND!!!!, insisted that we get it! 🙂 We wanted to the get the turtle we saw at TJMaxx (after we bought the taco costume), since her name means turtle, but thought that might be overkill for one year!

So hilarious! I didn’t dress up Louie last Halloween (he was only a few months old), but I would like to this year. The only trouble is that I have door duty with all the trick-or-treaters. I don’t want Louie to run out the door, but I want the kids to see him in his costume. Any thoughts or advise?
