Manaphin

April 1, 2014 by Julie 51 Comments

Happy April Fools’ Day!

I wasn’t feeling too creative and didn’t come up with an April Fools’ Day prank for you guys this year (the year Sadie was “pregnant” was my favorite), but I am seeing some fun ones around the internet!

Sadie Vizsla

I must tip my hat to Visit St. Pete/Clearwater. I received a press release from the tourism group this morning that announced a sighting of the “long extinct” manaphin – a dolphin-manatee hybrid – off the coast of St. Pete last week.

Though they didn’t fool me, I still laughed and thought it was a fun prank. They even created a website for the manaphin! I love it when businesses have a little fun and do things like this!

Have you seen any awesome April Fools’ Day pranks so far this year?

Breakfast

As I read all about the manaphin, I dug into a plate of pancakes for breakfast.

quinoa almond flour pancakes

I did a little experimenting in the kitchen and made pancakes with almond flour and quinoa flour. They were good, but before I share the recipe they need a little tweaking. The flavor from the quinoa flour was a little too dominant.

Pancakes with Quinoa Flour and Almond Flour

Even with the slightly funky flavor from the quinoa flour, I had no problem clearing my plate. Any day that begins with pancakes is a good one, right?

Have a great day and don’t let too many people fool ya!

I’m glad I read your post this morning because I had forgotten that it was April Fool’s Day. Hopefully now I’ll be more aware if anyone tries to pull my leg. 🙂

Any day that starts with pancakes is a good day in my book.

I just saw a prank that I went as far as going to the store this morning to get stuff for.

Put a big bowl with Skittles, Reeses Pieces, & M&M’s all together in the breakroom… then I got to the store and thought… “Why would I spend my money on something that will most likely be wasted?”.

So I bought my self a large latte from Starbucks instead. 🙂

Here in Iceland the newspapers always write a story that is an April fools joke and everyone searches to find them. They have several stories that are deceiving so you never know what to believe on this day.

A couple of years ago I took all of the utensils, plates, glasses out of my b-friend’s cabinets and replaced it all with plastic utensils, plastic cups, and paper plates. My senior year in college my roommates pranked me with an eviction notice. I was not amused! I skipped class and went to the management company to ask about it, etc.

When I was in college, I had a roommate named Bethany, so one year for April Fools we changed our profile pictures to match and then changed our respective last names on Facebook (so like if my last name were Smith and hers were Johnson, my profile then read “Bethany Johnson” instead of “Bethany Smith” like it should have). And then we made a point of posting a lot and confusing all our friends. Hahaha. Good times.

The morning show I listen to on my way to work in the morning had the best prank. They ran a commercial, started a website, and interviewed a fake guest which all said that motor boats would not be allowed on most MN lakes this summer because of the ice conditions we had this winter. I think people were starting to freak out because I saw that one of the newspapers had an online article about it being a prank. We love our boats in summer!
