Sports, Egg Hunts and Birthday Parties… Oh My!

March 30, 2026 by Julie Leave a Comment

It was another sports-filled weekend over here but it was a good one, as we filled our days with a lot of outside time and family time. Friday night had us going in opposite directions for the big kids’ soccer games (Ryan and I alternate who goes with which kid each week) and Rhett and I had fun cheering for Ryder before we all met back up at home to eat Five Guys and watch a little March Madness before bed.

Anyone else out there have kids who are super into March Madness? Everyone in our family filled out brackets, including my parents, in-laws, and sister which is making it all the more fun!

Saturday

Saturday morning began with staggered workouts for me and Ryan. I used to take weekends completely off from workouts but ever since I began doing Madeline Moves workouts last fall, a Saturday workout will pop up here and there. I often have a workout I have to skip during the week for whatever reason and use Saturdays as my make-up day. I’m finding I thoroughly enjoy the feeling of an unrushed weekend workout.

(Still loving my Stakt mat! Code PBFINGERS15 should still work for 15% off, I think.)

Also, if anyone is interested in joining me for the upcoming spring Madeline Moves challenges, this is how I first discovered the Moves app for workouts and it’s what hooked me on their incredibly well-rounded programming. I’ll share the date when signups open!

After my workout, I took a quick shower and got dressed before our morning plans took us to Rhett’s preschool.

(Top: Aerie / Tank: Target but old / Jeans: FRAME — 50% off through tomorrow and my absolute favorite denim. I sized down to a 26. / Clogs: Birkenstock / Bag: Clare V. — gifted but sold out — this one is similar)

Rhett’s preschool hosts a huge Easter egg hunt every year and it’s such a fun event!

They have bounce houses, a coffee truck, crafts and activities for the kids and our whole family enjoys it so much. Can I tell you how sad I am going to be when our preschool days are behind us? I cannot think about it too much — we’ve been at the same preschool for 9 years! — otherwise I’m a bit of a mess.

Once we made it home, we all dug into lunch before Kristin from The Woof Pack came over for our weekly one-hour training session with Comet. I will shout Kristin’s praises from the rooftops because she is helping us so much. Comet is a wonderful puppy but very much a puppy and with such a high-energy dog to train, professional help has been so worth it for our family. I read two books on vizsla training before we hired Kristin and nothing can replace in-person help and guidance from a professional who has so much passion for their job and endless knowledge and experience with all sorts of dog breeds, obstacles and antics.

We continued to work on the skills we’ve been working on only this time we also added some leash training into the mix.

(Pic of Ryder with Comet after school pickup on Friday. He said, “Mom, I hope Comet lives to be 203.” Me too. Thank God for Comet, especially over the course of the past three weeks.)

After our session with Kristin, we had less than 5 minutes to get out the door to make it to Chase’s flag football game.

(Sweatshirt: Aerie but old / Sweatpants: Amazon — the pair that fits similar to my beloved Ruti pants but thicker and warmer. I’m in a medium. / Shoes: Nike — size up!)

His team has yet to win a game this season but he’s really enjoying the sport, his teammates and his coach who is next-level fantastic. Also, I’ll try to snap a pic of our chair setup at the next game, but I’m not lying when I say at least 3 other pairs of parents have bought these collapsible Amazon rocking chairs after trying ours this season. I initially gave one to Ryan (for Father’s Day, I think?) and had to order one for myself, too, because it’s so comfortable.

We made it home in the early evening and dug into pizza for dinner before calling it a night.

Sunday

Our Sunday morning passed by in a blur but Rhett certainly would disagree as he asked me about every 30 minutes how much time was left until his friend Roman’s birthday party. He was SO invested in this party and I think his excitement stemmed not only from the theme (a carnival!) but also from the fact that the party was for one of his friends and not his big brothers’ friends. (Most of his good buddies have summer birthdays so it’s been a few months since his last birthday party. A little dry spell was all it took to have his enthusiasm sky-high for this party!) All week long, Rhett had a countdown going for Roman’s birthday party and on Sunday the day finally arrived!

As it turns out, Rhett’s excitement was more than warranted, as the party was one of the most creative kid birthday parties we’ve ever attended. Roman’s mom is a friend of mine from preschool and did the most incredible job leaning into the theme with homemade games, tickets, prizes and carnival food. The kids had the best time and all the parents were raving about Brynn’s efforts and creativity. If you’re looking for a kid birthday party theme, snatch this one up because it was a slam dunk!

After the party, Rhett and I arrived back home to an empty house, as Ryan took the big kids out to a park for Chase’s flag football practice. Ryder loves accompanying Ryan when Rhett hangs back with me and truly soaks up his one-on-one time playing football or soccer with Dad during Chase’s practices.

We spent the rest of the day doing the usual Sunday chores before everyone was back home and it was time for dinner and the Duke vs. UConn game. Did any of you watch that one!?!? It was absolutely WILD.

We were all screaming at the end!! Rhett and I were particularly excited as our March Madness brackets both have UConn winning for the sole reason that Rhett’s favorite stuffed animal in the world is a husky named Suki.

And now it’s time to get this Monday started. It will be a short week over here for our crew as we’re off to Sarasota soon for a long Easter weekend with my in-laws. We are ready for some Florida sunshine, sand and family time!
