Depressed Dog

August 22, 2012 by Julie 50 Comments

Good afternoon! I hope your Wednesday is trucking along without a hitch.

Like yesterday, the weather in Ocala today is dreary. Sadie is depressed but I am thriving.

today is stupid

Rainy weather does wonders for my productivity. I drinks lots of coffee and get in the zone.

Workout

Today’s workout started nice and early as usual. Ryan and I drove to the gym a little after 5 a.m. and I tackled another total body workout from Tina’s Best Body Boot Camp.

Like Monday’s workout, Tina broke up the strength training exercises with 90 seconds of “active recovery” that included core exercises and killer heart rate-rising moves like mountain climbers. (I scaled the mountain climbers back to 60 seconds. They kill me!)

When we arrived home it was time for breakfast.

Breakfast

I ate a filling bowl of scrambled eggs while working on my morning blog post.

In the bowl:

  • 3 eggs
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Avocado
  • Onion
  • Broccoli

Avocado, I adore you.

Lunch

Lunchtime snuck up on me today.

All of the sudden it was noon and I was hungry and impatient. Those two feelings seem to coincide rather frequently, don’t you think?

I fixed myself a quick lunch plate that included salmon salad and leftover roasted Brussels sprouts.

To make the salmon salad, I combined:

  • 3 – 4 ounces salmon
  • 1/2 orange pepper, sliced
  • Raw sweet corn cut off the cob
  • 1/2 cucumber, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons light mayo
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • Sprinkle of dill

When the folks at Laughing Cow went me some of their cream cheese spreads to sample last week, they came with a few packages of Thomas’ Bagel Thins and I rounded out today’s lunch with a toasted whole wheat Bagel Thin topped with honey and Laughing Cow cream cheese.

And that catches us up!

While I love the cozy feeling of a rainy day, I’m hoping the thunderstorms disperse within a few hours so we can take Sadie on an evening walk, otherwise she’ll surely morph into the most annoying creature on the planet by 7 p.m.

ready to pounce

It’s already happening…

Thundershirts do work; recently bought one for our rat terrier. She gets excited when we put it on & races around the house. Usually during storms she would pace around nervously & lick constantly. Amazing.

My little guy is the same way when it comes to thunderstorms. He is NOT HAPPY. Once, he jumped on the bed when I was fast asleep, and I screamed so loud that my hubs thought I was being attacked! Fun times. LOL

That salmon salad looks delicious! I tend to have this habit of combining all the produce I have on hand — sweet potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, and the like – throw it into a bowl and mix with honey dijon or hummus and call it a meal!

My co-workers refer to it as “orange mush” haha. But, it tastes so good!!

My dogs were the same way yesterday, normally I don’t walk them if it’s super rainy but I’ve been in such a good groove with walking them, haven’t missed a day in what seems like months, that I just tossed on my rain jacket and headed out, they were pretty surprised lol! Needless to say though, it was raining much harder than I thought and I was soaked like 10 minutes in, they didn’t mind though so we powered through a 50 minute walk, it was actually super refreshing even if I was soaked haha!
