Big Fan of JAX

September 20, 2012 by Julie 46 Comments

I signed off my last post saying I’d see you crazy kids from Baltimore, but I spoke too soon.

Heeello from the Jacksonville International Airport! I’ve been to the Jacksonville airport before but was too young to remember it and all I can say is that I am awfully impressed. It’s quiet, efficient and has free wifi!

Check out the seats with snazzy access to electrical outlets!

I’ve camped out on many airport floors just to be close to an outlet, so this little feature wasn’t lost on me!

I also want to hug the head honcho of any airport who decides that their airport is going to offer free wifi. Wireless internet is free in Orlando and Tampa, so I got used to it, but the more I travel, the more I realize it’s not a guarantee. I’m always excited to spend my time at the gate on my computer talking to you lovely folks, so free internet makes me happy!

Another thing that makes me happy? Airport parking for $5 a day!

The Jacksonville airport has an economy lot where parking is only $5 a day and a little shuttle comes every eight to 10 minutes to pick you up. Sweet!

I know you can often find off-site airport parking in a random lot for cheap (that’s what Ryan and I did when we flew to Oahu), but $5 for parking on airport property is pretty fantastic.

The one thing that wasn’t so fantastic?

Rain. Lots and lots of rain.

I arrived at the airport in the middle of a downpour and sprinted from my car with my luggage to the nearest bus stop. Thankfully the bus stop was covered, but the call button you press to talk to someone to request a shuttle was located outside of the little shelter.

Brilliant! (<—Said in my best Harry Potter voice.)

I used my jacket as an umbrella and managed to stay mostly dry. A shuttle picked me up in about five minutes which was not too shabby at all!

Lunch

Airport security was really fast and after making it through I stopped by Starbucks to pick up a Caesar salad to eat at my gate before takeoff.

I also bought a bag of white cheddar popcorn that I thought would be an in-flight snack. (I told you it’s one of my most common impulse buys!) Somehow it’s already halfway gone.

Irresistible, I tell you!

Now the next time we talk I really will be in Baltimore!

Thank you all so much for your Baltimore restaurant recommendations on my morning post. You’re making me wish I was staying a lot longer! Apparently I need to go on a food tour of the city!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m always dumbfounded when airports don’t have free wifi! With so many people traveling for business you’d think airports would get with the program and give us free wifi access!

haha. I think that Harry Potter quotes are the way to go today — I posted one too.

I love it when airports make it easy on their travellers. It seems as though strong customer service would be something they would look to strive for, but sometimes it’s almost like they know you’ll be stuck there regardless of the conditions, so why improve them … Anyway!

Hope the rest of your journey is seamless! 🙂

That is really nice having free wifi! I think they should do that in all airports. Have a safe flight! 🙂

I don’t travel much, but when I do, I can never get ON to the free wi-fi! Is there some website I need to go to at the airport to get approval?
I do love JAX, though. I’ve only been there twice, but it was NICE! 🙂

Haha wow you have a MUCH better outlook on being delayed and rained upon than I would! I have noticed outlet/chair combos popping up more and more, and I agree that it is SO nice! Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a big difference when traveling.

Free wifi must be a Florida thing because I have yet to be in an airport in California or Utah that has free wifi. Now I feel jipped. I would love to blog from the airport. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear all about the conference.

haha, I know both the JAX and BWI airport far too well. I’m from MD and fly into BWI and out of Jax to visit family.
That outlet thing must be new, very cool! Be prepared, there’s free WIFI at BWI too!!
Wherever you go, just be sure you order crab, be it crab soup, dip or just CRABS! They’re by far the best there. If you go for soup, cream of crab. Remember Cream of Crab. 😉

My best friend used to live in baltimore and I would visit her a couple times a year. She took me to Lexington Market downtown for crab cakes at Faidleys and oh. my. goodness. Best $13 I have ever spent. Every time I visited her after that I would request we go there for crab cakes. I have ordered them online to be delivered to Nashville plenty of times now that she doesnt live there anymore,

    FAIDLEYS crab cakes…yuuummm!

You have calmed my fears, my friend. Oh, and I love that Sonia Kashuk bag. I’ve literally been trying to hunt it down for MONTHS. Where on earth did you find one?

Lexington market is a pretty sketchy place especially since they have recently discovered a vendor who sold potato chips was arrested for selling guns out of his kiosk as well.

Near the airport there is a restaurant called G&M and they have delicious crab cakes! Where in Baltimore are you going to be? City or county? I can give more suggestions.

    Have a blast!

The Jacksonville Airport is WAY cool! I love the little triangle-table set ups! (I even brought the laptop across the room to show my bf!) Our airport (ONT-the alternative to LAX) barely has enough searing, and I almost always have to sit on the floor. 🙁
I’m excited that you get to go to all of these cool looking conventions! I can’t wait to read what information you pull from it. It looks like a lot of fun. 😀
