Country Music, I Love You

March 4, 2010 by Julie 17 Comments

I’ve tried to fight it for years… That country twang, those hokey lyrics…

Well, I just can’t fight it anymore! I flippin’ LOVE country music.

Yeehaw!

I don’t know when it happened… or if it’s always something I’ve secretly loved. My parents would listen to country music in the heart of suburban Illinois, where no one listened to country.

How about you? Are you a country music lover or a country music hater?

Country music was the music everyone hated in high school. I don’t think there even was a country music station in my town growing up!

As I was running at the gym this morning, it hit me that nearly every third song that came up on my iPod was a country song.

There’s something sweet and innocent about so many country music songs (Honky Tonk Badonkadonk, excluded). I love that so many country songs highlight the simple things in life that truly make life wonderful like ice cold lemonade, BBQs, sitting on your front porch and your family on a sleepy Sunday morning.

What are some simple things that make you happy?

If I were to write a country music song, a couple simple things I’d highlight would be:

  • The way your dog will bring you every single toy out of their toy basket until you play with them
  • The way it feels to get a real bear hug from a loved one
  • The feeling of being truly “at home” when you sit down to your mother’s home cookin’

Strawberry Shortcake Breakfast

Today’s breakfast was quite a treat!

I enjoyed a hot bowl of strawberry shortcake oats.

Strawberry Shortcake Oats

My mix included:

  • 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 1 scoop All the Whey cupcake batter protein powder
  • 3/4 c. thawed frozen strawberries

Thursday's Breakfast

This mix was sweet, warm and filling!

Workout

Today’s workout was a hodge podge of different cardio machines, but it made me sweat!

  • 25 min. run (6.5 pace, 1.0 incline)
  • 5 min. incline walking (4.2 pace, 7.5 incline)
  • 10 min. stair master
  • 10 min. elliptical

I actually didn’t want to get off the elliptical because I was really into the latest issue of Real Simple magazine. The recipes in this month’s issue look phenomenal.

Speaking of recipes…

I hated country music all my life – never listed or grew up on it, then I basically married a cowboy. Things have changed a little. 🙂

Country music is the best! I run to Taylor Swift alot, which is random because her songs are slow, but I like it.

lol– in Louisiana, there is NO shame about a love for country music. I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for it…although I can only take so much 🙂

I love Country music, but I’m from Texas, (and a tiny country town in Texas at that) and it’s like a sin for you not to like it here. hehe. But I also like all other types of music too.

My doggies make me happy! A good sweaty workout makes me happy, a clean house makes me happy and spending time with my friends and family make me happy!

I really like country music and listen to it about 1/2 of the time…the little things that make me happy – my baby smiling non-stop, the home cooked meals I prepare for us each night, my wonderful family and friends, and an ice cold beer!

NO, don’t go to the dark side! 😛 I’m not a fan of country music a lot. Breakfast looks yummy. A simple thing that makes me happy is sunshine.

This is a post after my own heart. I love love country music. I grew up with it and my whole family likes it. Anytime there’s a country concert we go. I listen to it 24/7 my roommates think it’s really weird that I can workout to it but really I can’t workout without it haha

I agree that country music is great. I haven’t listened to it in awhile but it used to be all I listened to. Peter hates it and I’m not in the car as much so that’s probably why. I mainly listen to contemporary Christian music these days and LOVE it 🙂

I love it. I always have. I can break it down to some T-Pain or Lady Gaga anyday but when I am in the mood for something real, something substancial, it’s ALWAYS country. I live in MI where we have many country stations. I have seen ONLY country concerts in person – I grew up in a small town where country wasn’t frowned upon. Typically the mood I am in determines what kind of music I am listening to, but 4 of 8 of the presets in my car…are country, baby!

Country music will make you LOL or CRY! Some songs literally draw tears the instant I hear them. 🙂

Ladies .. if you love REAL country music you should check out http://www.alwayscountry.net

Well if you’re looking only for Top40 songs you may be at the wrong place. But if you’re looking for different styles from the years 1930 – 2010 you’re right 🙂

Oh and yes … that’s sort of advertisment for the station as I’m trying to attract more listeners. Please forgive me 🙂

    Cheers,
    Susanne
