Back from a Wedding-Filled Weekend

May 28, 2013 by Julie 33 Comments

Hello, hello!

How are you doing today? I hope you enjoyed a fun holiday weekend with friends and family! If you spent most of the weekend at home just relaxing, I hope you’re feeling well-rested and rejuvenated.

As you can see from my previous blog posts, my weekend was consumed with wedding-related activities. From the rehearsal on Friday night to the wedding on Saturday and a post-wedding brunch on Sunday, it was definitely a wedding filled weekend!

Wedding Photobooth

After Sunday’s brunch, Ryan and I drove to a BBQ at our friend Pete’s brother’s house.

Pete is one of Ryan’s very good friends and he is engaged to one of my best friends, Merri. Since they were both in town from New York City for Laurel and John’s wedding, we wanted to soak up as much time with them as we could and made sure to hang out with them for several hours on Sunday. Pete’s family is Italian and I couldn’t stop eating the zeppoles and rice balls they made from scratch for everyone to enjoy.

Incredible!

We eventually made it to my parents’ house on Sunday night to pick up Sadie and ended up spending Memorial Day grilling by the pool.

It was wonderful! We arrived back in Ocala around 8 p.m. last night and had an early morning wake up call today!

Workout + Lunch

After a 5 a.m. workout, I showered at the gym and ate a bowl of overnight oats in the break room. As I ate, I worked on training plans for a few of my clients for the next 1.5 hours until my first client arrived at 8 a.m. Both clients that I trained today are very new to strength training, so I am spending a lot of time concentrating on form and fundamentals while still trying to keep things interesting, challenging and engaging. It’s quite fun!

I packed my lunch before I left for the gym in the morning and ended up digging into my pasta salad with chicken in between appointments.

Easy Italian Pasta Salad

It was delicious!

Simple Italian Pasta Salad

To make the pasta salad, I simply tossed cooked tricolor rotini pasta in a bit of light Italian dressing and added chopped chicken thighs, olives, cucumbers and broccoli. It reminded me a lot of my friend Kristen’s mom’s Easy Italian Pasta Salad. I love that recipe!

After lunch I taught water fitness and the class went really well.

It is slowly growing and I love talking to the class participants. They are a hoot! A woman who took today’s class is from the same area of Illinois that I am which was really neat.

Once my class was over, I stopped by the grocery store to pick up food for the week before driving home to blog and chat with you fine people.

And now I think we’re all caught up! I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your Tuesday!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Has it been difficult learning how to teach water aerobics? You stand on the pool deck while you teach it right? Did you have to practice the moves yourself so you’d know what the people in the class would be feeling? I’ve watned to try one of those classes because I’ve heard it’s actually a really good workout!

I stand on the pool deck and do my best to mimic the movements they do in the water. I definitely have to get in the pool from time to time to make sure I understand how the movement works and which ones require more time & effort to complete in the water. I love it!! I shadowed a handful of classes, read a book about it and also watched some YouTube videso, too!

    Looks like SO much fun!
Ah, I can’t wait for the first grill of the year! It’s always a blast.
I’m glad you’re getting more in the groove with the water aerobics teaching. Teaching definitely is scary at first, but after a while it gets easier. I’m learning that myself right now as well!

Such a fun weekend!! Looks like you had all the best–friends, family, good food, and relaxation 🙂 Makes it easier to work & do the mundane in between what with weekends like that 🙂 I love time off for those reasons–so nice to just kick back & have fun!

YAY for teaching going well-I knew it would & that you would rock at it.

You’ve had such a busy and fun-filled weekend! I’m on the younger side and can’t wait for my friends to start getting married so I can go to all the weddings ;). I really liked how you styled your dress to one shoulder as well, it was so flattering :).

Do you find it harder or easier to find the motivation to hit the gym up for an early workout knowing you have a long day ahead? I love the gym atmosphere but don’t know how well I’d do being there for such a long time!

Ahh I wish I knew an Italian person who would be willing to make me homecooked the zeppoles and rice balls!

I’m glad your water classes are going great. I love finding people from the same area I am when I’m at school, just because they tend to be uncommon!

Growing up, my next door neighbors were Italian and I remember having zeppoles at their house – so delicious! Also, it might be because the new Arrested Development episodes just came out, but the deep fryer in that picture just makes me think of the Cornballer (if you haven’t watched that show, it should be your next one) 😉

What type of age group goes to your water aerobics class? Is it mostly older adults? I have always been interested in something like that, but perhaps something that is more challenging?

It is definitely an older crowd but today I had two women in their 20s attend. I would guess that most are over 60 though.

I love that you’re teaching water aerobics. I remember on our honeymoon in Costa Rica, there was a guy who would teach it to a pool full of ladies every morning. It was funny to see a big, butch guy trying to do the moves outside of the pool! 😉
