Describing Yourself In One Word

July 9, 2014 by Julie 68 Comments

Another 6 a.m. Pure Barre class kicked off my morning.

pure barre

The sun starts to rise in Charlotte just before 6 a.m. which makes waking up early to exercise 10,000 times easier. Waking up to total darkness is brutal so when even the tiniest bit of sunlight shines through, it helps a lot!

Today’s class went well and basically killed my core. In a good way!

And for anyone looking for a barre workout you can do at home for free, my best friend Laurel (whose birthday is today!) texted me this morning about this YouTube video and said it was a good one:

  • Full Length Barre Workout with Jessica Smith

Just sharing the love!

Breakfast

After Pure Barre, I headed home to make myself a smoothie for breakfast.

Strawberry Smoothie with Greek Yogurt

I blended the following ingredients together:

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 banana
  • 2 handfuls fresh spinach
  • 1 cup strawberry Greek yogurt
  • 1 spoonful almond butter
  • Vanilla almond milk

Strawberry Smoothie (2)

Simple and simply delicious!

Describing Yourself In One Word

I swear Ryan and I talk about the most random things on our evening walks with Sadie. Lately a lot of our conversations have centered around finding a more permanent place to live. (Ryan and I are seriously considering buying a home – our first!!! – and we drove around with a realtor for five hours on Sunday. We are feeling hopeful but trying to remind ourselves to be patient.)

Anyway, last night I remembered a rather thought-provoking session I attended at Wanderlust that I meant to talk to Ryan about following my trip. The session centered around self-love and being the best version of yourself. We were encouraged to think about one positive word we think someone who loves us might use to describe us. This immediately made me curious about what Ryan would say and I finally remembered to ask him last night.

His answer? Vivacious. He also said “joyful” and both answers made me smile. I wasn’t sure what he would say but I appreciated the words he chose. (I definitely didn’t see “vivacious” coming!)

Ryan asked me to describe him in one word next and I copied him and shared two words: Loyal and adventurous. He’s always up for anything (which is one of my favorite things about him!) and he is a very loyal person.

I thought this topic might make a fun question of the day, so now it’s your turn…

Questions of the Morning

  • What positive word(s) do you think your loved ones would use to describe you?
  • What positive word(s) would you use to describe someone you love?

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I just asked my husband over an early breakfast to describe me and he said “quirky” not sure what to make of that!
So glad that you are enjoying your new place. I love “shopping” for a house. We just bought our first one last year and love it!

I love that barre is so easy to do at home. It’s such a killer workout!! I can’t wait to ask my husband what his one word about me would be.

The one word I would use to describe my husband is resilient. He had a very rough childhood but is shockingly optimistic and positive. I don’t think many people could have his attitude after going through what he’s been through! I asked him what he would use to describe me and he said amazing…which made me say “awwww,” but doesn’t quite seem like a personality trait hah.

You should really check out Hilliard Studio Method. I recently moved from charlotte to San Francisco and leaving behind Hilliard studio may have been the only hard part of leaving charlotte. It’s really an amazing workout – barre or otherwise. And in my opinion pure barre (or even fly barre) don’t really come close. It’s great. I literally go back whenever I’m in town for any reason.

Just about every person who’s ever known me has called me “enthusiastic”. lol And many other positive words, like creative and funny, which are all sweet, but enthusiastic is at the top. And it’s pretty true. I’m a pretty chipper person in general, and can get jazzed about the simple things in life. One of my husband’s favorite stories to tell others is how I clapped and said “how exciting!!” once when he said we needed to stop at a gas station on the way home. lol And I was genuinely enthused. I get pretty jazzed at unscheduled adventure, even if it’s simple adventure, and I’m pretty sure I was excited at the possibility of a king sized candy bar and a sudden trip to the magazine rack. I can get excited by the adventure in any number of seemingly mundane things, not just the universally agreed upon exciting things (although I’m into those too).

Sounds like you have wonderful conversations on your walks, looking forward to following you on your home search in your lovely new city!! I had a feeling you were going to buy something there! You feel in love with the city before, when you “dated” the city, now you’re there and head over heels – time for a commitment!

What a great personal exercise! I am going to chew on this and try to come up with my word! Just one is hard…and it’s what you hope people will perceive you as. Love it-thanks for the challenge!

I totally agree on the sunshine. I hate getting up in the dark … and here in the summer when I COULD sleep in some, I actually can’t, because the sun is up so bright and early. I had to laugh the other morning when my oldest boy went in to wake the little ones. I told him they could sleep in to which he replied a line from Frozen (completely with little girl voice) “but the sun is awake, so I’m awake, so it’s time to play!” 🙂
