DIY Fever

October 7, 2014 by Julie 77 Comments

Good morning! How are you doing today? I’m all hopped up on caffeine because I had a free drink coupon to redeem at Starbucks this morning, so I obviously wanted to get the most bang for my buck and ordered a large cinnamon dolce cappuccino.

Caffeine always makes me chatty but it can also make me focus and feel more productive, so I’m hoping to ride the productivity train through the morning.

DIY Fever Sets In

Last night Ryan and I went to Lowe’s, also known as our home away from home. I’m pretty sure the folks there are going to know us by name soon. We walked away with a new washer and dryer because our washing machine broke down two weeks ago. We’ve already been through one washing machine and one dryer that we got on craigslist (the dryer actually caught on fire), so we decided to actually replace our latest craigslist machines with a nice set that will hopefully last for years and years and not just put a band aid over our crappy washer/dryer situation.

My main criteria was a high-efficiency top-loading washing machine so the machine would use less water and be more energy efficient. I was pumped when we found one on sale that got great reviews, so it was a win all around.

It will be delivered on Wednesday! Clean clothes, here we come!

While we were there, I picked up some paint and other supplies so I can get started on our laundry room makeover and wrap up some projects in my home office. I’ll be sure to take you guys along for the ride since I’m definitely a DIY novice and have a lot to learn. I’m actually looking forward to tackling some projects around the house! (Feel free to remind me that I said this when I am sick of painting.)

Valspar Spray Paint

I spent a solid 30 minutes choosing a color for the laundry room last night and Ryan just laughed when I presented him with three paint samples that he assured me were “identical” shades of mint green. I ended up going with the Valspar Pantone Universe Bay color and left with a sample to try in our laundry room soon. I hope it works out!

Workout + Breakfast

My workout this morning took me to Pure Barre for the 6 a.m. class. My local studio has a challenge going on this month: 20 Pure Barre classes in 31 days. If you complete the challenge you save 65 percent off the following month’s membership. I’m all in!

After barre, I swung by Starbucks for my free drink before heading home to grab a quick breakfast (a carrot cake muffin and a handful of mixed nuts) before taking Sadie on a short morning walk.

And now we’re all caught up!

Hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday so far!

We are redoing our office and I really want to make a magnet board and white board. Those are my projects coming up. I love DIY projects, most of the art in our apartment is stuff I’ve made.

Are we ever going to get to see pictures of your pretty new house?! It’d be so fun to see before and afters, even though they’re not on the same post!! Especially of your DREAM WHITE KITCHEN!

Candy cane lane because it reminds me of a board game I played and loved as a young girl. Candy Land. I played with my cousins who were the 2 sisters I never had. I smile whenever I think of this time in my young life. Drinking this tea would be a reminder of a great time in my life!-

thx, Julie and enjoy our new home. May it continue to be filled with love and great health!

What model washer and dryer are they? And where did you see reviews? We are building a house and are at the appliance stage. I really want HE top loading for our washer too. Keep us updated on how you like them when you get them!

Painting tip: always go lighter than what you think you’ll want if you’re painting a small space. If it’s too dark it will make the room look smaller. Also don’t paint the ceiling! Leave the ceiling white so it opens up the room more.

I totally made the mistake of painting the ceiling in an apartment in college. Never again!!

I can so relate to this! I’ve never done DIY anything but my husband and I just put an offer on our first house! We initially didn’t want a house that we had to put a ton of work into but ended up falling in love with one that needs a little TLC but has HUGE potential. Now I find myself saying things like “Let’s go to Lowe’s and walk around to get ideas!” <– file that under things I never thought I'd say.

I have the same washer and dryer and I love them! They are extremely quiet and sense how big the load is to adjust the water. I hope you guys enjoy them as much as we have!

When we moved in to our new apartment (few months ago) we or should I say I chose a light grey throughout the whole place, it really opened the apartment up, only thing is we were left with a fireplace in the most awful chipped wood, we didnt really want the extra expense of taking the fire out, so decided on a whim to paint it black, seems a tad harsh but it turned out beautiful and a real focal point in the room, not sure you would call tat a DIY but still:)!
