The Elusive Pint

August 4, 2010 by Julie 54 Comments

Ooooh breakfast. You are my reason for waking up in the morning. 🙂

I love a filling breakfast and find that my morning meals that contain peanut butter are some of the most satisfying. Gotta love those healthy fats that stick to yo’ ribs!

Today’s breakfast was a peanut butter and peach sandwich that I prepared on an Arnold multi-grain sandwich thin.

Hump Day Breakfast

I sprinkled the nut butter and peach slices with pumpkin pie spice to make it look extra purdy for you guys and also add a little bit o’ flava.

Peachy Keen

On the side I enjoyed several fresh strawberries.

Sweet Strawberries

I love how sweet strawberries are in the summer. They’re so touch-and-go in the winter, but summer berries are always perfectly ripe.

Workout

I woke up a little nervous about my workout this morning. After a week away from strength training, I had a feeling my usual 5:45 a.m. Wednesday BodyPump class would kick my little tooshie.

I was right… kind of. I figured I would struggle through the squats and lunges since I assumed my legs would feel fatigued after Sunday’s half marathon, but I actually found the bicep and should tracks the most challenging. Go figure!

It felt great to feel the burn again! Healthy Julie is back!  We’ll just forget about that little bowl of Ben & Jerry’s peanut butter cup ice cream I had last night, mmm kay? 😉

Actually… Let’s talk about Ben & Jerry’s for a second.

In college Ryan and I fell in love with Ben & Jerry’s oatmeal cookie chunk ice cream.

Ben & Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Chunk

It is seriously amazing. Sweet cinnamon ice cream with chunks of oatmeal cookies and a ribbon of fudge. It’s heaven in a pint.

Well, we haven’t been able to find this ice cream for years! The grocery store by Ryan’s old apartment is the only location we’ve ever seen carry it. We literally check every grocery store we visit for a pint of this stuff with no luck.

It’s quite the elusive little guy.

Questions of the Morning

  • Have you ever had a product you love be discontinued or suddenly become very hard to find?
  • Which cookie do you prefer: Oatmeal or chocolate chip?

Oh my goodness, NO WAY! That was my FAVORITE Ben and Jerry’s flavor! It’s RIDICULOUS how good that stuff is, and my grocery store hasn’t had it in stock for years 🙁 they’ve replaced most flavors with the new “mini” cups of Ben and Jerry’s with not much variety…not cool. Haha, I love how we rant about ice cream 😉 And oh, I am oatmeal cookie ALL the way! Amen sister!

Glad you had a kick-butt workout and a sweeeet breakfast 😀 Enjoy your day Julie!

    Oatmeal Chocolate Chips! 🙂

But I’d rather have a soft gooey oatmeal cookie than a plain boring chocolate chips one 🙂

I used to always buy a Fondue Broth (random I know), and it’s now impossible to find. It’s so crazy that everyone I know always look for it in random grocery stores hehe

I actually worked at the Ben & Jerry’s factory as a tour guide around the time that they started/ stopped making Oatmeal cookie Chunk. That flavor was one of their “Limited Batch” flavors, meaning they make it for 6 months and then stop making it. There was so much protest over the disappearance of Oatmeal Cookie Chunk that they brought it back as a full-time flavor. It’s one of my favorite too!

They actually have a Flavor Graveyard at the factory where they make funny little graves for all of the retired (dead flavors) like Peanut Butter and Jelly and White Russian.

How about Oatmeal Chocolate Chip combined? That’s one of my go-to cookie recipes, but I also throw in butterscotch chips for good measure.

As for the lost product…Starbucks’s Maple Macchiatto..when they discontinued it, I sent them letters for THREE years pleading to bring it back!

    My fave flavors are

    Sweet Cream and Cookies

Imagine Whirled Peace and they had a Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road Special Edition one that I loved!

My fiance and I searched everywhere for it a year ago when we first heard it was coming out, and we finally found it at a ben and jerrys icecream shop while on vacation in FLorida, we loved it! We were so happy to find it too, I was searching everywhere for it! I came to find out, only certain cites got it, so thats why I couldnt find it!

    Ahhhhhhhhhh I love icecream!!

I definately prefer Oatmeal Chocolate Chip…not either-or. Oatmeal in the cookies makes them a bit more filling and satisfying. Since you’re such a peanut butter nut…put some peanut butter in the Oatmeal Choc. Chip cookies and you’re set.

It seems that most of my favorite items end up discontinued. It’s the same with some of my favorite TV shows. The best ones have ended after a season or two.

It’s funny you mention products that are no longer available where you live. I actually had a recent similar experience with my beloved cereal! Last summer, I became obsessed with Quaker Crunchy Corn Bran cereal, and then stopped eating it for a while. A couple weeks ago, I decided I’d pick up a box. Well, low and behold, no longer were any of my local area grocery stores or Target carrying it! Frantic, I hurried on over to Quaker’s website and accessed their product locator tool and was able to locate it at a grocery store nearly an hour away! Sure enough, I trekked the distance, and am happy to report, the cereal peacefully sits in my cabinet, waiting for me each morning!

I love oatmeal chocolate chip! I actually had that cinnamon oatmeal ben & Jerrys ice cream a few months ago and I haven’t been able to find it since! The all time best Ben & jerrys ice cream is phish food!! And they actually have a light version of it (but the regular phish food is sloop much better!)
There is one snack that I love that I can only find at christmas time – they are chocolate covered pretzels with peanut butter in the middle. I think Synders makes them. They are so so do delicious!

And yes I used to be able to get this Greek Yogurt and honey pre-packaged cup at Starbuck’s which was so convenient on days when I didn’t have time to make breaky, but now they don’t serve it anymore! 🙁
I don’t know why, but I haven’t seen it at any Starbuck’s for at least a year now. But that is ok, I make pre-packaged ones from home now, which is cheaper and healthier as I can control how much honey/yogurt I want. yay!

As for the cookie choice, it is a tie! It depends on what kind of mood I guess, but I love both 😛

Oatmeal Cookie Chunk is the BEST! They have it at a few of the higher end grocery stores around my area, so I guess I’m lucky!
The first flavor I ever tried from Ben & Jerry’s was Coconut Cream Pie — SERIOUSLY delicious. Swirls of coconut, whipped cream and pie crust! I searched for it a few months later only to find out that it’s now in the Ben & Jerry’s “graveyard.” How they could retire such an awesome flavor, I’ll never know.

Kashi Mighty Bites cereal. My kids and I both loved it.

I don’t think I can choose between chocolate chip and oatmeal. I like both, but only like oatmeal if there are no raisins. Cooked raisins gross me out.

Since I know you are a huge greek yogurt fan, I wanted to mention a tasty addition I tried this morning. With my yogurt and touch of agave nectar, I added fresh strawberries and toasted, sliced almonds. Spending the extra minute toasting the almonds took this breakfast over the top. It was amazing!

Though I have had a few zevia’s over the months. My kids will grow up eating lots of ethnic foods and knowing more about nutrition than I ever did 🙂 I think our goal should be to give more to our kids than we had.

Oatmeal Cookie Chunk is by far the best B&J flavor and one of my FAVORITE ice cream flavors! I also made the discovery several years back in college with my roommate. It was initially limited edition and was brought back by popular demand. I think I have a picture of my roommate holding one of the pints that had the”back by popular demand” copy on it, since with all her many emails it may be thanks to her it returned. ; )

I always find myself looking for it at grocery stores. I’m actually kind of glad it’s hard to find – it makes it that much more enjoyable when I’m unable to indulge in a bowl.
