A Few Things From This Weekend

January 5, 2015 by Julie 152 Comments

A few things from this weekend… In list form!

  • Homeland!

Homeland

We started watching season one of Homeland last night and let’s just say we’re ALL IN. We popped the first DVD in before 5 p.m. and did nothing else until bedtime. The show is so addicting and we’re already hooked! I’m really hoping to squeeze in an episode or two after dinner tonight! Big goals, I know. Haha!

  • Pure Barre Change Up

Pure Barre

My local Pure Barre studio introduced a new warm up routine on January 1 (routines change every 3 months) and I did it for the first time on Saturday. Oh man, it is a killer and totally lit my core on fire! I was ready to shake things up a bit so the new routine came at the perfect time and was oh-so-humbling.

  • Bye, Bye Christmas

Christmas Decor (2)

We put away all of our Christmas decorations and the Christmas lights this weekend. Ryan and I divided up the tasks and while I tackled the inside décor, he packed up the outdoor lights which made the process go by faster than anticipated! I now feel like there’s a big void in our house where the Christmas tree is supposed to be. The post-holiday blues are setting in…

  • Pizza Night

Brooklyn South Pizza

Ryan and I got together with our friends Chandra and Kevin on Friday night and spent hours chatting away and eating several slices of our all-time favorite pizza at Brooklyn South. It’s our go-to spot for pizza and after raving to Chandra and Kevin about it in the past, the four of us met up for a low key pizza night which was exactly what I was in the mood for on Friday. So delicious!

  • Breakfast at Terrace Café

Terrace Cafe

Terrace Cafe

Terrace Café came highly recommended to me by my friend Lindsay! I actually took my sister to the delicious breakfast hot spot when she was in town last fall, but Ryan had yet to give it a try, so we headed to the café for brunch on Sunday and grabbed a seat at the bar. Their food is absolutely fabulous (I ordered the quiche of the day and shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy with Ryan to start) but I think their specialty coffee drinks are equally worthy of praise.

hazelnut cappuccino terrace cafe

When I went with my sister, I had the peanut butter cup latte and it was out of this world! This time, I opted for a hazelnut almond milk cappuccino and I don’t know what they do to their coffee to kick the flavor up a notch, but it’s unreal. I think they have the best specialty coffee drinks I’ve found in Charlotte so far! I just had to give this place a shout out in case you’re a local reader and haven’t been to Terrace Café yet. Put it on your radar!

  • Whole Foods Apple Pie a la Mode

Whole Foods Apple Pie

Talk about the best way to end the weekend! As we settled in to watch our millionth episode of Homeland last night, Ryan and I split this big bowl of warm apple pie and creamy ice cream and it was all kinds of amazing. The perfect way to cap off a lazy Sunday night!

Questions of the Morning

  • Share one of the highlights from your weekend! What was the best thing you ate? The most fun thing you did?
  • Are you currently addicted to a certain TV show? Anyone else just discovering Homeland for the first time? I hear it gets even better in season two…

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

We put our Christmas decorations away last week and it’s kind of depressing that the holiday season is over! My husband and I had a chill weekend which involved a lot of TV watching too, except our show of choice is ‘Blue Bloods’ (love it!). School starts back up on Wednesday, so I wanted to make sure I was able to watch as much TV as possible! We also had pizza for dinner one night 🙂

I made my first ever homemade whole wheat pizza from scratch. It was BBQ chicken and sweet corn pizza. It wasn’t too bad actually. The crust got a little over baked so it was kind of crispy, but I didn’t burn it and that’s all that matters. I’ll definitely be trying other crust recipes and flavor combinations in the near future. I also made apple and pear crumble from the skinnytaste cookbook and it was fantastic! There was only 1/2 cup of brown sugar for the whole recipe and to say I didn’t miss all the other added sugar was great! I got a head start on my New Years Resolution before New Years and it’s still going strong. I’m walking 1 mile per day, which may not seem like a lot, but it’s huge when you go from doing 0 exercise at all. Eventually I’d like to bump it up to two miles per day and so on! I’d even like to be able to ‘walk’ a 5K this summer. That’s my long-term goal!

OMG. I’m so glad you’re hooked on Homeland. We just watched the finale for Season 4 last week and now I have a void (kind of like your Christmas void haha). This is my hubby’s method when it comes to watching Homeland: we must start the first few minutes of a new episode (which thanks to my convincing usually turns into watching the whole episode because it’s rather silly to just watch a few mins) because they always end with you hanging off your seat. Also, because of that show, I have such a love for Claire Danes. She is an amazing actor!!

You mentioned two of my all-time favorite restaurants in Charlotte. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu at Terrace Cafe. I’ve literally never had a fail there. Brooklyn South Pizza is the BEST pizza in Charlotte, hands down. We go to the one in Wesley Chapel since we’re in S. Charlotte. It’s a drive for us, but so, so worth it. Hopefully Charlotteans reading will give these restaurants a go!

The best thing I ate this weekend was a chalupa from a new-to-us vegan restaurant. We aren’t vegan, but it was fun to try. The ‘meat’ was made out of jack fruit and seaweed.
Ok, I lied. The best thing I ate was a birthday cake oreo blizzard from DQ… but the chalupa was a close 2nd.

Highlight of my weekend way finally having some down time to relax and take a breather after the holidays. My hubby and I went to the movies, watched football, and worked out a lot. It was great. We took down Christmas too and now I feel like there is a lot of extra space in the house.

We wrapped up Friday Night Lights on Christmas Day–great show! It was ironic b/c the finale was set around the holidays. I’m sad now that the show’s over–and b/c the holidays are over 🙁 We actually listened to Christmas music up until last night. We refused to let it end, but now reality sets in. I think January is my least favorite month.
