A Few Things From This Weekend

January 5, 2015 by Julie 152 Comments

A few things from this weekend… In list form!

  • Homeland!

Homeland

We started watching season one of Homeland last night and let’s just say we’re ALL IN. We popped the first DVD in before 5 p.m. and did nothing else until bedtime. The show is so addicting and we’re already hooked! I’m really hoping to squeeze in an episode or two after dinner tonight! Big goals, I know. Haha!

  • Pure Barre Change Up

Pure Barre

My local Pure Barre studio introduced a new warm up routine on January 1 (routines change every 3 months) and I did it for the first time on Saturday. Oh man, it is a killer and totally lit my core on fire! I was ready to shake things up a bit so the new routine came at the perfect time and was oh-so-humbling.

  • Bye, Bye Christmas

Christmas Decor (2)

We put away all of our Christmas decorations and the Christmas lights this weekend. Ryan and I divided up the tasks and while I tackled the inside décor, he packed up the outdoor lights which made the process go by faster than anticipated! I now feel like there’s a big void in our house where the Christmas tree is supposed to be. The post-holiday blues are setting in…

  • Pizza Night

Brooklyn South Pizza

Ryan and I got together with our friends Chandra and Kevin on Friday night and spent hours chatting away and eating several slices of our all-time favorite pizza at Brooklyn South. It’s our go-to spot for pizza and after raving to Chandra and Kevin about it in the past, the four of us met up for a low key pizza night which was exactly what I was in the mood for on Friday. So delicious!

  • Breakfast at Terrace Café

Terrace Cafe

Terrace Cafe

Terrace Café came highly recommended to me by my friend Lindsay! I actually took my sister to the delicious breakfast hot spot when she was in town last fall, but Ryan had yet to give it a try, so we headed to the café for brunch on Sunday and grabbed a seat at the bar. Their food is absolutely fabulous (I ordered the quiche of the day and shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy with Ryan to start) but I think their specialty coffee drinks are equally worthy of praise.

hazelnut cappuccino terrace cafe

When I went with my sister, I had the peanut butter cup latte and it was out of this world! This time, I opted for a hazelnut almond milk cappuccino and I don’t know what they do to their coffee to kick the flavor up a notch, but it’s unreal. I think they have the best specialty coffee drinks I’ve found in Charlotte so far! I just had to give this place a shout out in case you’re a local reader and haven’t been to Terrace Café yet. Put it on your radar!

  • Whole Foods Apple Pie a la Mode

Whole Foods Apple Pie

Talk about the best way to end the weekend! As we settled in to watch our millionth episode of Homeland last night, Ryan and I split this big bowl of warm apple pie and creamy ice cream and it was all kinds of amazing. The perfect way to cap off a lazy Sunday night!

Questions of the Morning

  • Share one of the highlights from your weekend! What was the best thing you ate? The most fun thing you did?
  • Are you currently addicted to a certain TV show? Anyone else just discovering Homeland for the first time? I hear it gets even better in season two…

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Um, Sadie’s face in the Christmas decoration picture is priceless! It’s like she can’t figure out why she is not the main thing in the picture. We’re taking the tree out tomorrow night and I know the room is going to look so lonely! I might leave some snowmen decorations up so the room doesn’t feel too empty.

I love Homeland! I never post spoilers. I’ve only seen the first two seasons, though, but they were great.

I did a lot of things this weekend, but by far, my favorite, was watching the return of Downton Abbey! It’s such a great show, if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a MUST. There’s a reason people go wild for it. My husband LOVES it too, and just so you know, he’s not into period movies at all, and spends a lot of his free time playing intense video games. So, if he can love it and I can love it, you know it’s dang good.

So “cutie” oranges were probably the most delicious thing I ate this weekend. And I’m loving Greek yogurt too. Not exactly gourmet, but seems like it to me these days!

We were given Homeland for Christmas last year because we had heard it was really good. We only watched the first few because we felt the sex scenes seemed pretty graphic.. We have a 14 year old daughter and felt like we had to keep hitting the pause button if she walked by while it was on. We have a very open floor plan so we decided to postpone watching it. We want to feel comfortable watching something that either the whole family can enjoy, or where we don’t feel we need to pause it every time. I’m curious if there are scenes like that all the way through, or just here and there? We did just start watching Downton Abbey (late comers, I know!) and we love it!
