A Must

December 17, 2011 by Julie 37 Comments

It seems like our weekends in Ocala must include hiking.

hiking 040

You can’t be this close to gorgeous hiking trails and not take advantage of them.

hiking 012

After breakfast, Ryan and I took Sadie on a nice four mile hike on trails close to home.

The gator count on this hike?

TWO.

hiking 005

hiking 029

(Gator number two was kind of hard to see, but he was sunning himself on a log.)

The three of us walked the same trails we did last Saturday, but added a 1.3 mile loop into the mix which made the hike more interesting.

hiking 015

Sadie loves it when I make her fake fart. Not sure why I felt the need to do that since flatulence isn’t exactly something she needs assistance with on a daily basis.

hiking 023

Once again our hike took us out to the springs where I oohed and ahhed at the crystal clear water. It really is unreal!

hiking 030

By the time we were done hiking, I was really hungry.

I reheated the pork chops from last night’s dinner that I prepared by dipping them in scrambled eggs before coating them in Italian breadcrumbs and frying them up.

hiking 041

Just as good the next day.

Today’s sides were rather orange and included a sweet potato with a bit of butter and a clementine.

Off to shower before hitting the road to Orlando!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

As a non-Floridian unused to gators, I would be so scared to be lunch myself for a gator lurking in the bushes. No? You guys are not scared?

the first one was a little unnerving b/c it actually was near a boat ramp and could’ve come up out of the springs, but the second one was pretty far away and we were standing on a boardwalk. we’re definitely VERY aware when we see gators! i’m actually most nervous about them being interested in sadie.

I have to say I’m always curious about this when you say you see gators on your hikes. Do you not let Sadie off of the leash near the water? or at all on hikes? I can’t imagine not letting my pups off the leash when we hike, but our biggest worry is deer (which can be a serious annoyance, like yesterday when one of the pups ran off for 45 minutes trying to catch one, but no one will get eaten).

Meg and Silva are in my head….I think one migth be enough to scare me away!

And if Sadie is ever misisng, you might check my house. The giveaway will be my face being swollen due to dog allergies (even the hypoallergenics get me!). I’ve debated whether I’d cure my pain issues or my dog allergy if I had to pick….

she is both on AND off leash on our hikes, but near the water she’s on leash. we’re definitely cautious when we come upon signs that caution hikers about gators and when we approach the water!

Ok, I have what I think is a semi-weird question, but I felt you were an appropriate person to ask.

    Build up much? 😀

You know how if you mix PB2 powder with water you get peanut-tasting schmear? But it lacks the real thick creaminess of real pb? Well, what happens if you try adding guar or xanth-whatever gum to the mix? Do you know?? I am kind of curious.

My SIL, who lives in Sarasota, once had a baby gator right outside her front door! She was calling her hubby and freaking out. She video taped the whole thing, and it was pretty hilarious. 🙂

Off topic but I thought of pbf when seeing them! Your towels from anthropology are on sale at mall of millennia. I forget the price but they were affordable plus everything on sale is an additional 30% off. I got all of the girls in my family the mugs that have the monogram floral design for $4 bucks a piece!

We visited Ocala several times and I love it there so much! Talk about horse country. We never saw any gators though, luckily! Your pork chops look incredible. I haven’t had any in way too long.

I think I would scream and run the other way if I saw a gator on a hike! Birds, deer, and squirrels- I’m fine, they don’t have big jaws filled with teeth… A gator- I’d think he just is looking for food!
