A No on the Ruching

April 2, 2012 by Julie 124 Comments

Getting caught up is what Mondays are all about around here.

I spent the morning at the computer as usual and eventually broke for lunch around noon.

roast beef with pear

I fixed myself a simple roast beef sandwich on toasted honey wheat bread with melted muenster cheese, mustard and spinach.

roast beef sandwich

Sides included another sliced pear and my new favorite chips!

popcorners chips

Have any of you guys tried Popcorners chips?

popcorners kettle corn

I bought them on a whim last week and am so impressed!

They are perfectly crunchy and packed with flavor without being greasy. I can’t wait to try more flavors, though I’m a little obsessed with the kettle flavor and will have a hard time not just buying that one over and over again.

Bathing Suits: A No on the Ruching

After lunch, I got around to trying on the bathing suits that arrived in the mail for me over the weekend.

I ordered two different bikinis from Victoria’s Secret in hopes of having a new suit for our upcoming cruise at the end of the month. I haven’t purchased a new bathing suit in several years. I tend to order them online and buying a bikini online is quite a guessing game, so they often get returned.

Fortunately one of the suits is a keeper, but the other one was definitely not.

bikini victoria's secret 003

Riiight.

That bathing suit looked like it offered a lot more coverage online and I didn’t notice the ruching down the middle of the butt on the Victoria’s Secret website. What is that? A stitched-in butt crack?

I’m sure it would look adorable on some, but on me it looked ridiculous and it’s already packed up and ready to be sent back.

I’m just glad I got one winner! I’m so picky when it comes to bathing suits (aren’t we all?), so I was relieved to at least find one that will do.

Back to work!

Question of the Afternoon

  • Where do you typically buy your bathing suits?

I typically get my suits from Victoria’s Secret or Target. I love the suits at Everything But Water, but they come with a hefty price tag!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Jcrew always has great suits. I have had good luck every time I order, and really enjoy the fold down bottom styles. And the best part is they don’t cut you off in weird areas. 🙂

Ooo that ruching would be rather uncomfortable! What does the suit you kept look like?

Umm..nowhere. I hate bathings suits! Just kidding..kind of. I don’t like ’em but I still wear them. I found a couple cute ones at JCPenney last year when we went to Florida. And I had a tankini from Target that I loved, but ripped.
I love the VS bathing suits but they’re not made for my body 🙂

I feel the same way about buying bikinis online, it’s a hit or miss. Fortunately for VS, you can return it for free in-store so I’ve done that with a couple items.

One thing I love about VS is their padding for the tops! Nothing like some security when the ocean/pool is a little colder than you thought 😉

I buy my suits from Victoria’s Secret, too. I usually buy several in hopes that at least one fits and I’ll return the rest. Shopping online is a pain, but their clearance section prices cannot be beat.

I wish you posted the bathing suit you kept! (Not while wearing it though haha) I love getting ideas from other people. I rarely buy bathing suits, but when I do it’s from random places online. Last one I bought was from VodaSwim…for almost $100, but it was SO worth it! Great quality

There’s no way I could buy a bathing suit online because I HAVE to try them on! I bought a Victoria Secret bathing suit back in high school, and it looked horrible on me.

I often buy mine at Mayc’s, but I’ve also bought them at Pac Sun, Target, Old Navy, and Banana Republic. 🙂

Ohh I love the pattern on that bathing suit, it really is too bad that it didn’t work out for you. I buy mine all over the place. I like VS suits and just random ones that I find on vacation. I need to go through my swim drawer and toss some oldies because it’s overflowing.

I will admit that I was eyeing a suit at walmart the other day. I think it was Ocean Pacific (OP) which was totally a cool brand when I was in middle school. 🙂

I have bought a bunch from VS but they’re kind of hit or miss and I HATE that I have to pay return shipping and can’t return to the store (if this changed, let me know).

Pop Corners are sooooo good. The cheddar jalapeno is my obsession. Cheesy with a bit of heat!

I always order off of VS. Ick to ruching, I don’t really like that style too much. The look these days seems to be barely any coverage on your bum or a faux bum crack. Um no thank you? That’s a little weird. I haven’t really seen anything yet but that’s also because its too cold where I am to start looking 😉

It’s a cute pattern, but I agree, needs a little more material!!!

I just dropped $90 on a top alone at Everything But Water last week… ughh. I’ve got a big bust though, and finding a swimming suit top that’s modest but not frumpy is seriously difficult, so I caved!

Ha, I agree that it’s a guessing game with ordering bathing suits online. I’ve had the same experience with VS bathing suits – sometimes they wind up being super tiny, other times they’re too big. But everything looks so cute in the catalogs so I still can’t help myself from ordering from there!

Sheesh, I guess everyone reading this post today was blessed with a bodacious boot-ay! The ruching (also called “scrunch butt”) down the middle is for those of us with zero junk in the trunk, to create the illusion of a butt. I actually go as far as to do it myself on all of my bathing suit bottoms using a safety pin. Sad, I know.

I usually hit TJ Maxx or Marshalls for a new suit, although its even more hit or miss than a regular store. The bargain hunting is a fun challenge!

My most recent bathing suits are from Old Navy and American Eagle, but I’d like to get a new one from Victoria’s Secret for my honeymoon. The problem is, it’s hard to tell how they fit by looking at the model online. I’m bigger on the bottom than I am on the top, pretty much the opposite of a Victoria’s Secret model!

I have had the best luck with swim suits the past few years at Nordstrom. Probably because I like having someone to help me, a huge nice dressing room, and the selection is nice but not overwhelming (I can’t stand having too much to look at – it overwhelms me)

Those bottoms would bug me too! Well I live in Utah where it is very frowned upon to wear a bikini at all (some pools won’t let you in if you are wearing one)… I like Target swimsuits, one pieces that flatter my curves. VS does have some cute ones but I like to try mine on so I rarely buy from them (we don’t have one anywhere close to us).

Last time I ordered from VS there was a paper in the shipment saying you could now return items at a store. One of the tops I got was too big and I was able to take it to the store and they sent it back and the smaller one was shipped to me. Sure saves on postage!
