Back in High School

August 6, 2012 by Julie 66 Comments

I feel like I’m back in high school today.

First, I’m at my parents’ house, studying at the kitchen table.

NASM textbook

Second, I had a very high school-esque lunch.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich + Yogurt + Fruit

IMG_0075-002

It was back to basics with this lunch!

As I was studying for my personal training certification this morning, I stumbled upon some information that was rather familiar to me.

IMG_0076-002

Drugs!

In my previous job, I worked as the content team manager for a large website and wrote about medications every day. Oh beta-blockers and nitrates, how I’ve missed you! After working my way through a few chapters saturated with science terminology that was rather intimidating, it felt nice to read about medications today and feel like I was in familiar territory. Who knew reading about the classifications of medications would excite me?

I initially planned to drive back to Ocala after publishing my morning blog post, but my plans changed following a little miscommunication with my dentist office. I’m glad I packed my study materials!

I thought my dentist appointment this morning included a check up on a filling that was causing me some pain and my biannual cleaning, but apparently the cleaning wasn’t on the books. After I left the dentist this morning, I got a call informing me that an appointment for a cleaning opened up late this afternoon.

Back to the dentist, I go! The dentist two times in one day? Lucky girl, right here. Winking smile

Question of the Afternoon

My typical high school lunch was usually a turkey sandwich and pretzels with either a snapple or Arizona iced tea! On Fridays I would hit up the cafeteria though for some killer chicken fingers! ;).

I freakin’ hate the dentist. You’re about the bravest person in the world to me right now.

HS lunch was usually a ham or turkey & cheese sandwich with an iced tea “drink box”. Except on Friday’s when the school ordered out for pizza! My Dad made the BEST sandwiches. We went to a concert this weekend and he made some sandwiches for us. SCORE!

Some days it was 3 for $1.00 chocolate chip cookies, some were turkey and cheese subs, and during senior year it was Wendy’s bacon cheeseburgers. Thank goodness for being in sports and having a young-person’s metabolism! 😉

Always be prepared! Haha! Your lunch looks yummy! I had lots of PBJ days, but usually I’d have some kind of turkey sandwich, grapes, carrots, goldfish, things like that. My dad always packed my lunch for me and he sent me to school with so much food! He would always fill the ziplock bags all the way up no matter what it was he was putting in them. It was awesome. I would just snack on everything throughout the whole entire day.

It’s a very Indian thing to eat full on meals for lunch ie not sandwiches. So lunch for me would sometimes even be rice and curry or pasta!

My typical lunch in high school looked a lot like yours. I always packed a sandwich (either peanut butter [no jelly] or turkey), some sort of fruit, something salty (usually pretzels), and something sweet (pudding, teddy grahams, gushers [I loved when my Dad bought these, such a special treat haha], or a granola bar). I’m such a creature of habit…thank goodness I learned that there are many more and better options for lunch!

Good luck with your second dentist visit!

I’m pretty sure I ate the exact same thing for lunch almost every day in high school: turkey sandwich, apple, and whatever baked good Mom had most recently made (almost always bar cookies, but occasionally brownies). And for mid-morning snack: tortilla chips. Every. Single. Day. Let me tell you, I was quite the adventurer in high school! Hahaha.

Sometimes I bought lunch at school (if they were having taco salads or mexican pizzas), sometimes I took my lunch (usually some sort of sandwich with a Breakstone cottage cheese cup & chips or pretzels). A peanut butter sandwich was often involved, but not with jelly. I liked PB & butter or PB & honey 🙂

Uhh, my high school lunches were awful.

Either non-existent, a giant muffin from the bakery at the grocery store, or a Tim Horton’s bagel.

Once in a blue moon, I’d actually get a turkey or a ham sandwich.

Good thing I know so much better now!

Oh what a great lunch! When I was in high school we had off campus lunch and I lived every close to my high school. I would usually go home every day to eat (once I had a car) and the best part was my Dad worked from home so it would eat together. It kind of became out little tradition. I know most people don’t think eating lunch with their dad everyday would have been a high school kids first choice but I loved getting those extra few minutes of just me and dad time. My mom was at work and my brother was at school so it was just the two of us and I loved it.

I’ve never been a PB&J fan 🙁 My freshman and soft more years of high school I dined mainly on Cheez-its and chocolate milk sold at the snack counter. Junior year I decided I was done with that and started buying lunch in the cafeteria every day. Some of that stuff was tasty!

When I was in high school, my parents ordered pizza for dinner every Friday night, so during the week, I would eat it leftover all week for lunch. Every once in a while, I would buy something, but it was pretty much leftover pizza every day, all week!
