Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie

May 31, 2013 by Julie 68 Comments

As someone who is a serious planner and likes a set schedule, working at the gym is forcing me to be more flexible and adaptable. On days when I don’t have a set shift, I am still there a lot training clients or teaching a class. I think this is actually a good thing for me in the long run, but it will take some getting used to. I missed you guys this morning!

I had a training session with my first client of the day scheduled for 7 a.m., so I got to the gym a little after 5 a.m. so I could exercise for an hour and have time to shower, eat breakfast (overnight oats again) and work on on a training plan before our appointment.

From the time I clocked in, I didn’t stop moving. I trained one client (she just signed up for more sessions today – woo!) and took two people through a functional workout before I got a call from another instructor asking me to sub for her water fitness class.

Check out those menacing clouds!

I soon found myself rewearing the sweaty clothes I worked out in earlier that morning to teach the class which was awfully pleasant. I will definitely try to remember to pack an extra workout outfit from here on out just in case something comes up. Ick!

It actually rained halfway through the class as I was teaching (no lightning though, so it wasn’t canceled) and I joked that someone was trying to tell me it was time to take another shower. Yikes!

Lunch

My shift at the gym wasn’t too long today and I got off work a little after noon and high-tailed it home to make a smoothie for lunch. I knew I wanted a cold lunch since I was overheated from teaching outside and a smoothie sounded perfect.

Blueberry Smoothie

Too bad it looked like death in a cup!

Blueberry Smoothie Blended

I blame the frozen blueberries.

In this smoothie:

  • Vanilla almond milk
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen raspberries
  • Cashew butter
  • Chocolate protein powder
  • Cocoa powder
  • Fresh spinach

It was fantastic and totally hit the spot.

Now I’m off to take my second shower of the day and head out to a craft store to pick up some supplies for a project I am working on. More on that in a few days!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I’m with you on that type A personality. I just got a job as a pilates instructor and I know the hours can be all over the place at the start…especially since I start subbing. It’s going to be unknown which is hard for my planning tendencies. Oh well, a new learning curve, right!
Haha the sad thing about spinach in smoothies is the awful look they get after;)
I’m obsessed with avocado, banana, and wheatgrass in my smoothies (as an alternative to spinach) I actually like the taste. Oh and try coconut flour in smoothie, I swear it’s so delicious!

As crazy as it sounds, I’m jealous of those menacing clouds! We rarely get thunderstorms up here in Boston and I miss them!! The other night we had our first one in months (maybe even a year!) and I turned my TV off just to listen to the rumbling thunder. After being a Florida girl all my life, I miss the thunderstorms!

Are you noticing your appetite picking up now that you’re moving around more during the day? I just started a desk job which has done two things- forced me to stick to my workout plan or it never gets done and have a bit of a smaller appetite because the most i’m walking is to and from the subway (2 blocks) not the mile to and from campus I do maybe 2 or 3 times a day during school

I need a plan/schedule or else I go beserk. The problem is that with my current job, and boss, that doesn’t happen. I’m working on the whole “being spontaneous” thing…
You seem like you’re really loving your job, which is wonderful. I hope one day that I can find something that I’m passionate about like that! I’m hitting a quarter life crisis where I’m not sure what I’m doing with myself these days…haha.
Kale + dark chocolate cocoa powder makes for the worst looking smoothie ever, like straight mud. But it’s SO GOOD.

No banana in the smoothie . Hmm…

I don’t have a blender a the moment…soon. Maybe I will try to get a very cheap tiny one …magic bullet or similar I guess.

Thoughts on where I can find a month long fitness program for a beginner with no gym and limited space? The Fitnessista (good blogger, etc) posted hers for summer…but I was disappointed to see how complicated and “advanced”it is….I have no gym…can barely jog 2 steps, jumping, etc is out..

I LONG for a plan to feel proud and accomplished and slowly progress (I want to gain health + energy + muscle + lean muscle tone). I want to write down what I did each day and have a plan for each week…but don’t know where to find one or who to ask (website, book, ? blogger with it? You give me one and I’ll pay you $15-20 bucks for it 🙂 …I’m very financially strapped…or give you a “testimonial” after?

    Anyway…thanks 🙂

      Okay…I just found this: http://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/get-a-bikini-body

Is it too loosey goosey? I guess you cant’ see it (unless you just plug in your email address for the “printable” download…but no machines or gym or cardio…
      – 2 toning workouts (squats, etc…just about 3 exercises)
      – 2 interval (some lateral shuffles, jump squats…I can modify maybe 🙁
      – 2 “easy” days…I guess for most that’d be bike/run….but for me…walking I guess 🙁

still not what I want…but better than scouring internet getting lost I guess. I find too at times I REALLY like a lot of “at home” doable circuits on people’s blogs…but then I don’t know how to put them into an overall plan versus just finding it one day and then repeating myself or having no written “plan”…

      I dunno…

the only thing there that would need equipment is called a cross-body “chop” with a resistance band or machine…don’t have that…so guess could just sub in regular pushups (SOMETHING doable)…its 21 days…anyway…sorry, venting/journaling my lack of structure frustrations 🙂
