Compression Sleeves

November 19, 2011 by Julie 70 Comments

Check out my hot pink compression sleeves!

compression sleeves pink 002

(Did they distract you from the hot mess of hair on the top of my head? No? Maaaybe I’ll brush my hair and put on some makeup before snapping a pic next time. Maaaybe.)

A thoughtful woman who works with my dad and reads the blog gave the compression sleeves to me to try after reading about my soreness following the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon. According to my dad, she’s an amazing triathlete and swears by the compression sleeves as a means to increase oxygen blood flow to the muscles of the lower leg, helping them to recover faster.

She’s also running in the Women’s Half Marathon tomorrow!

I slipped on the sleeves this morning before heading out with Ryan for a little exercise. I didn’t want to work out at all today since I have the big race tomorrow, so I hopped on my dad’s bike and pedaled alongside Ryan as he ran a little more than two miles with Sadie.

compression sleeves pink 005

Yes, that was a crazy hard picture to take!

compression sleeves pink 006

After their run, we walked with Sadie for another 15 minutes or so before heading inside for breakfast.

Breakfast included two fried eggs, toast with a bit of butter and jelly and Canadian bacon. Deeelish!

Today’s plans include a hair cut for me and then Ryan, my sister and I are going to head over to the Women’s Half Marathon race expo to pick up my race bib and other goodies. My sister wants to sign up for the 5K race tomorrow as well!

See ya after lunch!

(Also, if you have experience using compression sleeves, I’d love to hear your thoughts!)

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I looove my compression sleeves! I just bought them a few weeks ago but I slipped them on after I finished the NYC marathon and wore them for 48 hours straight, basically. Whenever people ask me how they feel, all I can say is “they make everything feel safe.” Does that make sense?

PS – mine are blue, and now I want hot pink!

I’ve been thinking about picking up a pair of compression sleeves – I do pretty much nothing in the recovery area and want to still be able to walk by the time I’m 30! Are you planning on wearing them for the race tomorrow? If so, report back!

And anything that comes in hot pink is a pretty easy sell for me! 🙂

I started wearing them after a bout of shin splints. I swear by them – I wear them while I am actually running though. Wonder after your post if I should just wear them after a run? Can’t wait to hear what you think of them! Good luck tomorrow! Your 2nd 1/2 in less than a month… amazing!

Dear Julie, you know I love you to pieces but those running shorts that end almost between your knees…. Hmm….. I am not sure if it is a deliberate fashion statement but you might be in for a pair of lululemon speed shorts!!

Unfortunately, they don’t come in hot pink 🙁 best running shorts ever.

I have hot pink compression socks too and I loooooove them! I don’t wear them for running though since I’m not a distance runner. I do, however, wear them to work since I’m on my feet all day. And i’ve definitely noticed that my calves aren’t sore at all the day after a 12 hour shift!

I started wearing a compression sleeve during all my workouts after my physical therapist recommended it for reducing soreness in my calf, which I tore last year. I find that the sleeve definitely helps! (though mine isn’t as fun as yours – it’s just plain black!) Good luck in your race tomorrow!!

    LOVE the hot pink!

I always use compression socks. I switched from sleeves to socks during marathon training. They really help with fatigue and they keep my calves warm which is great because they always cramp. They’ve also helped me with injuries I’ve had (tendinitis and other tears) so I’m a big fan.
