Dinner at North Harbor Club

October 14, 2014 by Julie 44 Comments

A little after 4 p.m. yesterday, my mom pulled into our driveway and the fun began! I am so thrilled to have her in town and cannot wait to show her around.

I gave her a tour of our new house and before we knew it, Ryan arrived home from work and the three of us were ready to head out for some food. We initially planned to grab dinner at Restaurant X, the first place Ryan and I ate when we came to the Charlotte area during his final interview. Unfortunately the restaurant is closed on Mondays, so we quickly came up with a new plan.

We decided to try a new-to-us restaurant located right on the marina in Davidson.

Ryan said he heard good things about the North Harbor Club restaurant and the place was packed on a Monday night, so we took that as a good sign!

Even though it was a little chilly and dreary outside, we couldn’t pass on the chance to dine harbor side and grabbed a table under the awning in the front of the restaurant.

To begin, we shared the asparagus fries and fried green tomatoes.

asparagus fries

This appetizer was a hit! The soy vinaigrette and honey mustard aioli that came with the lightly fried asparagus and tomato slices stole the show!

For my entrée, I went with two starters and enjoyed a cup of the lobster chowder that was absolutely fantastic.

Lobster flavor in every bite!

Pan seared scallops were up next.

The scallops were delicious, but the cauliflower mash and steamed zucchini ribbons that came with them were not very good. Thankfully my mom shared lots of her lobster macaroni and cheese with me. The lobster macaroni and cheese was decadent and so, so creamy. Yum!

The three of us ended up hanging out at the restaurant for a little while before heading back home where we relaxed on the couch and watched The Voice.

Now I am off to change because my mom and I have plans to take a morning Jazzercise class! I haven’t been to a Jazzercise class since we moved here and I’m looking forward to checking out the local studio. I hope it’s a good one!

Have a great Tuesday!

This is totally unrelated, but I was shopping for engravable jewelry on Etsy today, saw this, and thought of you! This bracelet–and similar Roman numeral necklaces out there–look exactly your style.

Those were all plated so beautifully… I wonder how the dessert looked!! Is it bad that I think about dessert first when I go to a restaurant, lol

I’ve been following your blog for a while, and just love your posts! You are very relatable, and I love your fitness/meal tips and style!

I just had to ask, where are your boots from? I’ve had my eyes out for a pair of tall brown flat boots and yours are just perfection! (BTW, love the whole outfit!)

Sounds like you are enjoying your new city- love hearing how you are adjusting to a new place. I moved when my husband and I got married just over a year ago. Being somewhere new can be daunting at times, but also such an adventure!

North Harbor Club was one of my favorite place to take my parents when they would come visit me at college in Davidson! We also love 131 Main, Jeffrey’s (http://jeffreyslkn.com/) and Dressler’s in Birkdale (http://www.dresslersrestaurant.com/). Have a wonderful visit with your mom!

    Hello!

I’m a long time reader and – think – first time commenter 🙂 I just wanted to say congrats regarding moving to the city of your dreams and feeling right at home so quickly! I am sure showing your mom around the new house must be exciting! I know I couldnt wait to show our place off when my husband and I bought our home.

I’m curious if you would ever consider doing a post – if you havent already – about you and Ryan’s saving strategy? Clearly you rented for years for a reason – to be able to afford a home someday. You’ve mentioned before you guys live pretty frugally and indeed, I’ve always been impressed with your healthy attitude that it’s better to save than to splurge $$$$ on a pair of heels you might only wear once.

Of course, I’m not interested in how much you guys saved or how much you paid for xyz, but just overall tips and approaches that worked for you guys would be interesting to read about.

As I am sure you reader base is full of younger impressionable girls who probably follow other bloggers who seem to think spending 5k on a bag is a “steal” it might do some good to illustrate smart strategies to avoid ending up purse rich but cash poor 🙂

I recall being in college and reading fashion mags who said that the 500 purse was totally reasonable and a “fall must!” and then promptly blowing whatever savings I had on that…it took years (because my parents didnt have money either and so didnt really have many money “tips” to share) of reading financial books, mags etc to understand that I should be focused on saving and earning interest on said savings to change my tune. My husband was super conservative so that helped as well.

In any event, I do think that would be a great blog post or even series! Just adding my two cents 🙂

    Have a great day!

Have a fantastic visit with your mom. That is really cool that you two take exercise class Jazzercise together. One of my favorite things to do with my mom when I am home for a visit is take our favorite yoga class together. It’s nice to have that go to activity we enjoy doing together.

I’m not sure where you are, but my friends I stayed with live in Dilworth and we went to Tupelo Honey Cafe last night and it was SO good!
