Dodging Spider Webs

March 25, 2012 by Julie 57 Comments

Big yawn!

yawning dog

Who else slept in on this lovely Sunday?

Ryan, Sadie and I remained tucked into bed until 7:30 a.m. and it felt great! (My college self is dying a little bit inside now that I consider sleeping past 7 a.m. “sleeping in.”)

Breakfast

After we awoke, we were anxious to get out on the hiking trails before the sun warmed everything up too much, so we enjoyed super-fast breakfasts in the form of smoothies.

banana smoothie

I am seriously loving my banana “ice cream” smoothie lately.

Today I added one cup of strawberry banana Greek yogurt to the original recipe since I wanted the smoothie to have even more staying power and it was fantastic!

It’s all about using two frozen bananas. Ya can’t beat the creaminess!

Hiking

With smoothies in our bellies, we drove out to the nearby hiking trails and set out to complete a three-mile loop.

We were clearly the first ones on the trails because we kept getting nailed with fresh spider webs as we walked.

Eventually we took to pawing our way through the forest and karate-chopping the air in front of us where we suspected the webs might be.

And we say Sadie is the crazy one. Winking smile

Once we were done with our hike, we headed home, grabbed a snack and quickly changed to make it to an 11 a.m. church service.

We made it there with two minutes to spare!

Lunch

After church, it was lunchtime and when Ryan suggested stopping by Firehouse Subs, I was in!

Though I was excited for the subs, I was more excited to once again try their 100-flavor coke machine.

I don’t drink a lot of soda, but when I do, I enjoy every bubbly sip!

Today I got a combination of vanilla Sprite zero and Barq’s diet vanilla root beer.

For my sub, I opted for the Firehouse Hero with all the veggies and no mayo. The sub was stacked with roast beef, smoked turkey breast, honey ham and melted provolone cheese and was nice and toasty!

Ryan and I also shared a bag of Sun Chips.

Now we’re back at home where we hope to spend the rest of the day doing stuff around the house. Ryan is also trying to convince me to watch the latest Star Trek movie that he DVRed a few weeks ago. He said he was never a Star Trek fan growing up, but thought the movie was really good. He also assured me that there’s some kind of a love story in there somewhere, so we’ll see…

Hi Julie, I love you blog!
Just wondering have you ever considered buying an e-reader? (I saw your earlier post about a trip to the bookstore) I didn’t ever think I would be a convert but now that I have one, I love it! And I just thought it might be something you would too, as you guys seems to read so much!

I am the same way! I love actually holding a book in my hands. I actually have a Kindle Fire, but I never read on it, lol. I mostly use it to watch Netflix when I’m in the kitchen and to go on the Internet when I’m away from my computer.

Do you use a spoon for all your smoothies?

I’ve seen some people use straws, but I’ve heard straws can give a person gas?

Have you ever put oats and peanut butter in your smoothie?

I tried your ice cream smoothie recently and I have to say that it definitely lived up to your hype! Ever since then I can’t use anything less than 1.5 bananas in a smoothie. It gives it the perfect consistency. 🙂
