I felt out of it all day today. I had a slight headache and attributed it to my lack of water consumption over the weekend.
I find it much easier to drink a lot of water during the workweek when I’m sitting at my desk and consciously refilling my water cup.
Over the weekends my water consumption tends to go way down. I must change this!
Today I went on a “Drink More Water Mission” and thankfully my headache finally dissipated a bit after dinner. I also bought a lemon and cucumber at the grocery store this evening that I plan to add to my water during the week to give it a little extra punch of flavor.
Water = Winner
Dinner
Tonight’s dinner was loosely inspired by my ham and tomato sandwich from yesterday’s lunch.
I made a BLT, but made it with turkey bacon and spinach instead of the traditional bacon and lettuce. I also added muenster cheese and light mayo to the sandwich and served it with a side of roasted broccoli and cauliflower.
I have a feeling this exact meal may pop up again for lunch tomorrow. It was great!
Off to change into my pajamas, fold some laundry, brush my teeth and park my booty on the couch for The Bachelorette tonight. See you in the morning!
Question of the Evening
- Do you find that you drink more or less water on the weekends?
- Any tips for drinking more water on the weekends?
Jennifer (The Gourmetour) says
I totally agree with you! I have the hardest time maintaining my hydration levels over the weekend as compared to the course of the week. I always try to bring my reusable starbucks cup with me, I’ve found that I drink water so much faster out of a straw. I’ve also been adding ice lately to add the extra sensation!!
Becka says
I find myself drinking less water on the weekends. So I find keeping my large SIGG bottle full all day just keep filling it when empty helps me. I carry it with me where ever I go too. Good luck drinking more water Julie!
nance says
A good reminder to drink more water, especially during the summer. 😛 Your BLT (BST?) looks delicious! I’ll have to try it sometime.
eliza says
totally agree with the h20 consumption going down on the weekends. I try to carry a water bottle with me in the car doing errands so I remember to drink when Im thirsty! I love having ZERO vitamin waters for a little extra flavah once in a while because plain water can be boring!
StoriesAndSweetPotatoes says
I can keep my water intake good as long as I always have water with me. It’s got to be in the car, on my desk, etc. I can’t drink like 32oz of water in one sitting so I have to just slowly drink ALL day. I feel SO much better when I get a lot of water in though. It’s worth always having a water bottle in my purse 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
i try to drink a full glass (~12 oz) of water with every meal and snack i eat. i also make sure i take a waterbottle with me wherever i go. both of these help me get my daily intake of water – even on the weekends!
Alyssa @ fit and fun in third says
Im actually the opposite… When I’m teaching during the week I can’t exactly leave whenever I need to use the bathroom so I always have to remind myself NOT to drink too much. I hate it, because I know drinking water is so important, but I just don’t have that option!
McKenna says
Of possible interest – maybe you could try looking for an app that reminds you to drink more throughout the day?
Good Luck!
McKenna says
I just looked for apps (I have android so maybe it would be different for Iphone users or other)
I found two that seem fairly good,
“Drinking Water” https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=chickpin.water&hl=en
and
“Water your Body” https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.northpark.drinkwater&hl=en
If not android users, I’m sure there are other apps out there! 😉
Marija says
Absolutely in the same boat as you, I Lways struggle drinking enough water on the weekends (especially at cookouts, parties, etc.) where the tasty drinks are being served endlessly
Ashley says
I’m the same way! I have got to remember to drink more water on the weekends. I started adding fruit/fresh mint to a giant pitcher and leave that in the fridge so I can mix it up a bit.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I get the worst headaches when I don’t drink water!
Kelly says
I buy the smart water 1 liter bottles and I drink 1 liter before lunch, 1 liter between lunch and dinner and 1 liter during dinner. We have a reverse osmosis water filtration system and we refill the bottles 5 times before recycling. We use a sharpie to put a tick mark on the cap so we know how many times the water bottle has been refilled. I usually have no problems with water. I struggle to not drink too much! Ha! By the end of the night my water is quite literally clear.
Meghan @ After the Ivy League says
I definitely don’t drink as much water on the weekends as I should be drinking, mostly because I’m busier and on the go more! It helps to bring a bottle of water (or two) with me in the car, and consciously try to finish it.
Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness says
I definitely drink less water on the weekends just because I am so much more busy! I put lemon and lime in my water to get me to drink more!
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
I actually drink more water on the weekends because I don’t want to constantly have to go to bathroom while I’m at work lol. I have to miss the Bachelorette tonight because we moved and our TV isn’t hooked up – ugh!
Jenn says
I drink a lot less water on the weekends too! At work I probably drink 6 cups of water just while I’m there and then another 4 or so at home. On the weekends I’m lucky if I drink 4 cups of water all day! I think I’m just so busy doing stuff and drinking other “fun” beverages 😉 I forget to drink water.
Kaitlyn @ Chocolate Running Shoes says
I’m obsessed with constantly carrying a water bottle with me! I have several to-go bottles, and I feel like I’m constantly re-filling them. I LOVE water, and aside from milk (and chocolate milk), I usually don’t drink much else.
I think for me, the hardest time of year to drink “enough” water is in the winter. During the summer, it’s so easy to constantly be drinking water because of the heat….winter, not so much 🙂
Julianna @ Julianna Bananna says
that sandwich looks delicious!
it’s been really hot out here in california and i’ve taken to carrying my big nalgene bottle everywhere- i fill it up at least 3-4 times a day!
pluvk says
This is kind of strange, but I notice that I drink more water when I carry a cute water bottle or tumbler. It makes me feel like I have an extra accessory! 🙂
But I do drink less water than I should… and I have the same reactions! Hope you’re feeling better!
Heather says
we have a zerowater pitcher in the fridge and I always try and refill it several times a day. good luck!
CampingGirl says
I drink more water on the weekends because I’m a teacher and using the washroom is sometimes difficult to do at school. We can’t leave the classroom while there are kids in it. 🙂
Hillary says
AMEN.
Lauren Rees says
Me too! Although I noticed that since I began my student teaching (1.5 years ago) my bladder has grown larger or I have improved my tolerance. My 4th graders on the other hand need help. haha
Lauren says
So basically you didn’t make a BLT at all.
Hillary says
I always have the same issue—I try to drink a huge glass of water with my coffee and a full Nalgene bottle (32 oz) during my workout on the weekends—-that way, nearly half of my water consumption for the day is taken care of before noon!
Casey says
I have the SAME problem – my Camelbak helps though, because I can just throw it in my bag on the weekend when we’re out.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I definitely need to up my water intake! Perhaps if I treat myself to a fun cup… 😉
Allison says
I JUST posted about this same issue last week, as I have always struggled to drink enough water. But I’ve learned 5 key tips that keep me chugging all week and weekend day long!

This is SO me! I down water all week long, but just forget on the weekend. My Monday morning runs are always the toughest, and I think that’s why! I’m going to try setting my iPhone alarm to go off every thirty minutes are so to remind me to drink (water, that is!). 🙂
Hannah says
I just wanted to let you know that I love your blog. I found it on pinterest and can’t stop finding new stuff. My husband makes fun of me because I can’t go anywhere without my nalgene bottle. I feel naked without it. We could be just going down the street and I will have it with me. I carry it EVERYWHERE!! I think it’s just become habit but I try to drink 2 of the 32oz bottles a day but usually get to 3 after a workout!
peanutbutterfingers says
i’m so glad you found me, hannah!
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
When I’m at work I have a water bottle with me, so days that I work it’s easy to get in all the water I need.
Weekends are definitely tougher for me. I try to have a glass of water with me most of the time around the house, so when I do feel like I’m thirsty it’s easy to take sip.
Meagan says
Oddly enough, I have trouble drinking enough water during the week. I work in a lab where we can’t have food or drinks readily available. My solution was to keep a water bottle in the breakroom with marks that signify when I should finish that amount of water (8 am, 12 pm, 4 pm etc). It helps me keep track of my water intake and spreads out the hydration over the work day. Try it out!
Megan@The Running Doc says
I try to keep my nalgene full at all times but I definitely slack on the weekends. I try to make it extra enticing on the weekends by adding some crystal light so I’m more likely to drink up!
Lindsay @ FuelMyFamily says
I drink a mass amount of water everyday. I am breastfeeding though so i am constantly thirsty. I make sure I drink an entire glass of water everytime i sit down to a meal. And then I drink another with each meal. I also carry a full water bottle in my purse and refill it often.
peanutbutterfingers says
congratulations on your new little one!! 🙂
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
I find it really hard to drinkenough water on days that I’m out and about. Today, for example, I had an afternoon dr. appointment and then headed out to the outlet mall with my mom.I was so thirsty!!!
Emily Butler says
I’ve not been a very good girl with my water consumption lately, I keep meaning to make a better effort, I guess I just get too tired of needing to pee 10 times an hour! ha!
Whitney says
The biggest water bottle possible helps me drink more. I buy smart water liter bottles and try to drink three per day. Try it!
Lindsey says
Way less for sure, something I also need to work on. During the week at work I fill my 750mL water bottle up and make sure to finish it by 5pm. Plus a glass or two with lunch.
I am going to try the same work day tactic on the weekends, fill up my water bottle and make sure to drink it before supper, and take it with me on errands. That way I am less tempted to stop for iced coffee 😉
Suzanne @ Fit Minded Mom says
I am the same way, just not as good about drinking water on the weekends. I think it may be because I am off running more errands and not near a water source like my fridge!
Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction says
I need to drink more water in general too. If I have a bottle next to me at all times then I will drink it. If I don’t have one next to me, I’ll just forget and then feel REAL thirsty, when the end of the day rolls around!
Beks says
It is easier to drink more water while actually working at a desk, rather than doing house-stuff on weekends. At my job, I’ll take any excuse to stand up and walk around the building. Not a fan of office work. 🙁
Khushboo says
For ms it’s outta sight outta mind, so I always try and keep a bottle/cup of water around! Also I’m a huge herbal tea drinker which helps 🙂
The Blissful Baker says
I do too! It’s weird…but so true 🙂
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
I find I tend to drink more water if I use a straw. Not sure why, but it works for me.
The Blissful Baker says
I always get headaches when I’m dehydrated too! I need to work on making sure I have a water bottle beside me at all times
Ellie@Fit for the Soul says
drinking water is never a problem for me luckily! But I also attribute it to drinking always out of a sports water bottle and it NEVER leaves my side! I’ve actually been using the one I won on your giveaway a while ago! 😀 Or, do what I used to do and carry a 40oz. water bottle on your weekends, hehe
erica says
i actually need to work on drinking more water in general!!!
Michelle@PeachyPalate says
I’m terrible at keeping up my water intake at the weekend but I try and always carry my water bottle with me (when I remember it) and if not buy as a supersized bottle to get through while run around doing whatever errands or activities.
Lauren says
I’m the same way. I slack on my water consumption on the weekends but try to make up for it come Monday. One thing I do that always helps is to start ever single morning with a large glass of lemon water. I figure I’m always going to eat breakfast so I might as well start with water first thing. It’s a great start to keep me on track.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I’ve been bad about drinking enough water recently, as well. I just get busy and then don’t do it. So I’m with you on your “drink more water” mission!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I am really bad about drinking water. I try really hard while I’m sitting at my desk at work to fill up my water bottle numerous times throughout the day. It’s difficult. I feel like I’m never really thirsty. The weekends are the worst. I definitely don’t drink enough on the weekends. I am totally joining you with drinking more water! I need to do so badly.
Chelsa says
I get headaches from not drinking enough water too. I drink so much water most of the time so that does not happen. The only side effect of too much water is having to go pee constantly haha.
Laurie @ Love, Laugh, Laurie says
I’m with you on the water, it’s so much harder on the weekends
