Drooling Dog

June 21, 2012 by Julie 81 Comments

Today began with a 6:30 a.m. walk around the neighborhood with Sadie.

walking vizsla

Or, judging by the above picture, a 6:30 a.m. strut. Sadie is such a little ham.

sleepy smiles

Sleepy smiles. Smile

I have to ask my fellow dog owners out there… Does this ever happen to your dog?

vizsla drool

It happens to Sadie all the time.

She shakes her wiggly little body and her frothy drool flicks up over her muzzle. Ryan and I say that she looks like she has rabies whenever this happens. Rabid dog!

wiping drool off dog

Get that drool off!

Breakfast

I don’t usually wake up starving, but after a 30-minute walk, I was more than ready for breakfast.

scrambled eggs turkey bacon 014

I made a batch of scrambled eggs with three eggs, shredded cheese, turkey bacon and onion and served it alongside a toasted whole wheat English muffin.

Savory breakfast heaven!

Lol! The first dog my family had was a collie St. Bernard cross, and she was the size height-wise of a St Bernard, but had more of a collie like face. Thank goodness, because if it was the other way around, I think we would have had a LOT of drool to deal with!

I’ve never seen that happen before – granted, I have a toy poodle, but that’s so strange! I almost never want a savory breakfast anymore – I need my sweets in the morning! I may or may not have had a little of my homemade cake batter frozen yogurt this morning…for breakfast. It’s so hot in the Northeast today I needed it!

My dogs (Jack Russells) luckily don’t drool, but when I met my husband, he had a St. Bernard and she was ALL DROOL. He had stratigically placed hand towels all over the house (under the couch, on the bedside table) to constantly wipe her off. You can’t help to laugh (as i kinda gagged), its cute in a dog lover kind of way. Oh, and thanks for updating the blog!!! i am now less productive at work because I am checking everything out!!!

My dog tends to get a little drooly from time to time and it grosses me out haha! We ran 4 miles together this weekend and she was foaming at the mouth between her own drool and the water she was gulping. At least it always makes for an interesting time 🙂

Bella is still a puppy so walking on a leash is still a chore. We’re getting there and she has come a long way but if she sees another dog (or a squirrel) is like charge full speed ahead. Considering she weighs 60 pounds it usually includes pulling me along for the ride.

yes unfortunately it happens to kona. she typically only drools when there is food around though, but a good example is outside at a BBQ she is drooling and running around it gets pretty gross 🙂

I haven’t seen that before but didn’t grow up around dogs like my husband. Our Shih Tzu doesn’t drool. 🙂 Even with your hair up and no make-up, you look so cute! Ryan is right, there is no difference between make-up or no make-up on you! And I’m guessing that you don’t have make-up on this early before a walk. Ha! LOVED that first link! I was tearing up through it; I love stuff like that! Have a great day, Julie!

I have a little shitzu so I’ve never dealt with the drooling thing… their little faces are so flat! Thanks for the link to the circuit workout, I’m always looking for new ones 🙂

LOL! I about snorted my coffee when I read this post this morning! You see, we have a Great Dane and are all too familiar with the drooling situation! We learned from some of our friends who own 2 mastiffs that the best way to handle the drool is to train them to get their face/mouth wiped off with a hand towel. We keep a towel in every room so that we are not splatter-painted with drool! It’s gross but we love him and it comes with the territory!

Oh my gosh that is too funny!! Sadie still looks adorable with drool all over her face :). My dog is only like 11 pounds so the drooling isn’t as intense, but whenever she drinks water she basically shoves her entire face into the bowl and her hair gets soaking wet- then she shakes and it gets everywhere haha

LOL! Yes! Our Great Dane, Chester, would always get slobber “hangers” from his huge jowls! We had to keep a towel nearby to wipe his face, especially after eating or drinking. He was quite successful at flinging them around if we didn’t get to him quickly enough or didn’t do a good job wiping his face! Gross!

Growing up, we always had a boxer & they happen to be a very drool-heavy breed, so I’ve definitely seen the drool all over the face look. Now, I have a pug & thankfully he doesn’t drool!
