Eating a Green Monster

April 7, 2010 by Julie 12 Comments

Why-oh-why did I wait so long to try a Green Monster?

I think I was put off by the green color and the fact that drinking a Green Monster meant sipping down calories, and I generally prefer to eat my calories.

Since I thoroughly enjoyed my first Green Monster experience, I decided to recreate it today. This time I ate my Green Monster with a spoon to satisfy my need to eat something rather than drink something first thing in the morning.

Breakfast

My Green Monster included:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • Almond Breeze almond milk
  • 3 large handfuls of spinach

Friends & Family Influence Drinking

Yesterday I read an interesting article about the influence of a person’s social network and family on their personal drinking habits.

The study found that heavy drinkers, moderate drinkers and light drinkers tend to flock together. Apparently people were 50% more likely to be heavy drinkers if one of their friends or relatives drank heavily.

Do your friends or family influence your drinking habits?

I love eating my smoothies like soup! It’s way more satisfying and I dont feel hungry like 5 minutes later! I also top mine with some granola and fruit. Soooo delish! Have a great day!

I laways eat my green monsters with a spoon. I don’t like to drink my calories either, and it feels a lot more like food with a spoon 🙂

I don’t drink at all alone, but when I get together with my girlfriends for one of our meet ups, we definitely throw back more than a few drinks! 😉

    Thanks for the coupon link!

No; I hanf around drinkers and was raised by drinkers–I rarely touch alcohol. Sounds silly, but I feel it will instantly give me wrinkles, LOL! And it’s extra calories-like you, I prefer to EAT calories 😀

I do the same thing – eat my smoothies out of a bowl. Makes it much more enjoyable! 😉

Sometimes friends influence me and sometimes they don’t. If I just really don’t feel like drinking and others are, then I just don’t and say I’ll be the DD. But if I decide I’m going to drink and have one and then people order shots, it’s kinda downhill from there! 😉

I’ve never had a green monster. Not a fan of smoothies.

I think other people’s drinking definitely affects others, but I think if you’re a confident person, you can pass on the drinks if you aren’t up for it. However, it’s a different story when it comes to growing up in a family of drinkers where drinking is the norm. I feel bad for kids growing up in that sort of environment.

I need to try a GM. I suppose I’m more likely to have a glass of wine if my mom is also.
