Fun Treats for Dogs

October 9, 2012 by Julie 56 Comments

I know I had a smoothie for breakfast, but after reading about all of your fantastic smoothie creations in the comments section of my morning post, a smoothie is all I wanted for lunch.

I promise it will be my last one of the day!

chocolate peanut butter smoothie

My afternoon smoothie included:

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 spoonful peanut butter
  • 1 spoonful dark chocolate cocoa powder
  • 2 handfuls fresh spinach
  • Enough almond milk to get everything moving

By the time 1 p.m. rolled around, my stomach started grumbling again, so I took that as a sign to eat lunch number two and fixed myself a plate of leftover salmon and a mixture of roasted vegetables.

Much better. Perfect packing fuel!

packing 001

I’m almost done packing for tomorrow’s trip to Oregon. Just the toiletries and my carryon bag remain!

This activity sent someone into a tailspin of despair.

pack me

She’s currently laying on top of my plane outfit in protest.

How quickly she forgets what a lovely time we had last night together at Dairy Queen.

Sadie sure loves their pup cups! I also heard a rumor from a few of you guys when I posted this picture on Instagram and Twitter last night that Starbucks gives dogs Puppaccinos! (You can see one on Wags ‘n’ Woofs.) Apparently Sadie needs to perfect her pathetic look because we’ve never been offered a Puppaccino.

Time to get your game face on, Sadie.

Question of the Afternoon

  • Do you know of any restaurants (chains or local places) that have special treats for dogs?

The park where we go hiking always has treats for dogs which I think it so neat! Sadie now knows to expect them, so whenever we roll down the window to show the ranger our park pass, she’s right in the window, wagging her tail like maniac.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Our pharmacy (Walgreens) keeps puppy treats for the drive thru people. Our dog won’t touch them, though. 🙂 Spoiled little pupper.

In the park on Saturday, a local homemade treat company gave my pup a treat mid-long run! I figured it was ok and just considered it “fuel” haha! Gu for dogs 😉

Our bank bought treats specifically for our Labs! They know they’ll get one (or 2) and last night literally ran and pulled me to the bank!

When I was younger, a few of our local banks gave out dog bones at the teller windows! It was adorable and, just like Sadie, our dogs came to expect it 🙂

My dog now doesn’t quite grasp that the drive-thru employee isn’t some crazy trying to suck our souls from the car {Holly’s a real treat, I tell you} so she tends to go batshit crazy on them, but maybe I can get her to sweeten up and earn herself a Pup Cup!

My older dog also gets treats at the bank. Now she expects a treat whenever we drive up to anything and roll down the window. She gets very upset hat the ATM doesn’t dispense treats.

Also, our Starbucks gives out organic dog biscuits.

I didn’t know those were called Puppacinos! The Starbucks drive through by my house gave my dog one of those, except they basically filled an entire grande frappucino cup with whipped cream, so it was a tad bigger than the one in that link. He was in HEAVEN.

Usually when I’m home for the weekend my dad makes a starbucks run for the whole fam and I always know he picked it up before I even walk downstairs because my dog jumps on my bed and has whipped cream on his beard.

our fedex guy brings some treats to the door. 🙂 have a great time in OR … they really love dogs up there! when i went to visit my sister in portland i noticed dogs were allowed to walk in the mall and lots of shops and restaurants had water bowls outside for a passerby. i was blown away at how dog friendly the entire city was.

by the way, do you buy farm raised salmon or do you get the frozen? i know publix usually has the farm raised and i can never get the frozen to taste as good as fresh. or maybe its the texture. anyway, yours looks yummy! 🙂

I know pets mope when we leave them!!
When I leave, even for a day or two and I get out my bag and my two pet rabbits know and they follow me around, hop in and out of the bag, just generally mope around. It’s weird because my dog back home acts like that, but you wouldn’t think Rabbits would know or care when I leave. But they do. haha

There is a local food truck park and one of the trucks serves cupcakes. Since the park is dog friendly, this particular truck offers cupcakes for our little canine friends!! I don’t know of any actual restaurants though.

I used to work as a cashier at PetSmart and some of the dogs cracked me up because they knew we had the little bowl of treats hiding behind the cash register. Some even made a beeline for it as soon as the walked in the door! The owners always looked embarrassed but I thought it was cute!

My dog A.D. Gets whipped cream at Starbucks sometimes. I also go to Starbucks after some of my morning runs with her and she loves it when I buy a bacon gouda breakfast sandwich. The baristas place the bacon next the sandwich in the oven to get it crispy. I always leave the store with two pastry bags. One with my name and sandwich the other with A.D.’s name and her bacon. Yes, she is spoiled.

Am I the only person that doesn’t like the idea of puppaccinos and other sugary treats for pets? Sugar causes inflammation in humans so it definitely can’t be a positive thing for pets either.

*Yes, I am that dog owner whose dog does not get table scraps… The only non ‘dog’ treat she gets is almond butter and I think she’s healthy for it.

Yesterday I took Cooper, my German Shorthair puppy, with me on some drive-thru errands. We got a treat at the coffee shop and the bank. By the time we got to the dry cleaners, he barked right at the lady in the window and she produced a treat as well. Cooper has this thing figured out already!
