Green Tea That Doesn’t Taste Like Dirty Water

January 20, 2012 by Julie 144 Comments

Today is a very special day in the Fagan household! Here’s a hint, but in true PBF fashion, you know I’m going to dedicate an entire post to this special day. Stay tuned (if you’re a dog lover, that is)!

dog poop funny

Workout

Today’s workout almost didn’t happen.

I tried to convince Ryan to sleep in, but he got up and got dressed and I couldn’t just stay in bed without feeling like I should get my butt in gear and workout. I wasn’t even tired, I was just so warm.

I give you northerners a lot of credit for working out in the winter. If our house temperature falls into the low 60s, I feel like it’s freezing. Such a baby.

As always, once I got to the gym and started working out, I was glad I went. Isn’t that how it always seems to work?

My workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical before I did my Targeting Triceps arm workout.

Breakfast

I made myself a mock Egg McMuffin today, only I used a toasted whole wheat bagel in place of an English muffin.

egg bagel sandwich 007

egg bagel sandwich 011

The Canadian bacon made this sandwich. I forgot how much flavor it can add to a breakfast sandwich.

I also sipped on a hot mug of Bigelow pomegranate green tea.

I bought this tea yesterday when I saw it on sale at a local health food store.

I fell in love with the pomegranate green tea when Ryan and I were living in a hotel during the first month that we moved to Ocala. (I do not miss that!)

The hotel always had the tea at their daily breakfast buffet and I quickly made drinking a hot mug of the tea part of my morning routine. I typically think green tea tastes like dirty water, but the pomegranate flavor makes this green tea much more palatable. For my fellow Starbucks fanatics, it reminds me a lot of Starbucks passion tea.

Off to get mah work on! I have a lunch meeting today and hope to have a very productive morning.

Question of the Morning

  • Tea drinkers: What is your favorite kind of tea?

I’m always on the lookout for new kinds of tea to try and would love your recommendations. My favorite is Yogi Egyptian Licorice Mint. Sounds strange, tastes great.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I really love peppermint green tea. I have only found it at TJs and only at the holidays. Boo. But I will drink regular green tea pretty much every day as well.

    Happy Birthday Sadie!!

I’m a tea drinker and prefer black tea (English Breakfast or Earl Grey) but I like to drink loose leaf herbal tea now and then, including green. I’ve found that the key to green teas is not using boiling water- it makes them super bitter! I’ve never tried the pomegranate- sounds good though!

Happy birthday to Sadie! Ginger turned 4 this past July and I finally feel like she’s hit a “mature” stage. Meaning her insanity is only like an 8 out of 10 now instead of a full blown 10!
Hope Sadie gets a special treat today (which I’m sure she will ;))

in my BOS days, i was awed by folks who trained for the marathon. it kinda is good to hold one before it gets warm but they had to train in the jan-april timeframe with at least their long runs outside!

i will say, i lived in ATL long enough to understand cold is harder in the south…don’t have the clothes, the insulation in the homes, or even the salt trucks/plows if the need arises

Ohh I love that pomegranate green tea!

And that nasty, bitter after taste is the result of steeping green tea for more than 2 minutes.
You just gotta pull it out after a minute but less than 2. … (haha that’s what she said? Lol sorry,)

But anyways, I like the Tazo Zen Green tea because of the hint of mint.I usually add a tbsp of honey to sweeten it and it really compliments the mint flavor of the tea!

We are gigantic tea fans. I have a shelf of about 30 different flavors! I am really picky about what fruit flavors I’ll drink but I love the spiced ones. My all-time favorites are chocolate hazelnut, Good Earth (original, tastes like big red gum!) and jasmine tea.

For a kick start in the morning nothing beats a spicy chai with milk and some cayenne.

Coffee bean and tea leaf has some awesome green tea fruit flavors… The strawberry, cherry and melon green teas are the only fruity teas I’ve ever enjoyed.

I used the gym as my motivation to get warm yesterday. It was so cold in the city I live in (-12 C…not sure in F!), and I was so cold in my house that I told myself that if I go to the gym at least I will be warm! And agreed, plain green tea tastes like dirt.

David’s Tea (might only be in Canada?) has the best kind of teas. My favorites are Orange Blossom and Toasted Walnut.
However if you don’ like regular green tea you should try genmaicha (rice green tea). You normally get it at Japanese restaurants – it’s my go to tea for sure!

PS its -40°C (-40°F) where I am right now – so be happy your still in the +ve temperatures! 🙂

Definitely not a fan of green tea either. I’ve tried that pomegranate flavor before and I still didn’t like it. I guess it’s ok with some sweetener but I don’t like having to add sweetener to stuff. If it’s bad on it’s own why bother with it.

My favorite tea of all time is Harney and Son’s Cinnamon Spice. My college coffee shop always had it and I think Barnes and Noble has it but otherwise you have to order it and its expensive so I never drink it anymore. =(

Favorites are (all bigelow I think) Vanilla Caramel, Pumpkin Spice, and Vanilla Chai.

oh today was definitely one of those workout days for me! I forced myself through it though!! I know what you mean, about green tea tasting like dirty water..sometimes I just force myself to drink it because I know its good for me. Sometimes the trick is to not let the water reach the boil and shut it off right before, then the tea doesn’t taste so..burnt..yuck!! Right now my favorite tea is the Traditional Medicine Throat Coat in the Lemon Echinacea flavor…it reminds me a lot of black licorice! However, if I don’t feel like having that tea, I like to mix plain green tea with Lipton’s ginger twist! So yummy! Anyways, have a great day!! 🙂
