Halloween Costumes for Dogs

September 20, 2013 by Julie 78 Comments

Good morning and happy Friday!

My Friday morning began with not-so-overnight oats. I forgot to prep the oats last night, so I prepared a batch this morning and let them soak while I made myself a cup of coffee and checked my emails. They weren’t really ready for eating by the time I wanted to dig in, so I just made it work.

overnight oats

I like cold oatmeal anyway, so this wasn’t too shabby. It just looks horrible.

Halloween Costumes for Dogs

Last night I had a lot of fun shopping with my friend Amanda. Her mother’s birthday is next week and Ryan’s birthday is October 5, so we teamed up to shop together after work and had a lot of fun in the process.

While we were out, we stumbled upon a pretty fabulous collection of Halloween costumes for dogs at TJMaxx.

I thought the donkey costume would look so cute on a dog with naturally droopy eyes like a sweet basset hound. They could pretend to be Eeyore!

We saw a wide range of costumes including cheerleader, turtle, lobster, skeleton and pumpkin costumes for dogs. Every costume was adorable and absolutely ridiculous at the same time. My favorite costume was the shark costume and I came pretty close to buying it for Sadie this year.

Shark Halloween Costume for Dog

We always quote Finding Nemo and call Sadie “Shark Bait” (Oh Ha Ha!) whenever we swim in the ocean with her, so  it seemed like a very fitting selection. In the end I decided to forgo the purchase since Sadie usually just wears her little pumpkin t-shirt on Halloween.

Pumpkin t-shirt

Fun fact: Sadie’s name was actually Pumpkin before we got her and changed it to Sadie!

When I arrived home and told Ryan about the costume finds at TJMaxx, we had a good time looking up hilarious costumes online.

Here are some of our favorite finds:

The Harry Potter fan in me loved this one:

Chi-Chi-Chi-Chia:

That dog’s face cracks me up. Not amused.

It’s SuperDog:

I hope these adorable pups made you smile!

Last year our beagle was a hot dog. In previous years, she’s been a shark (just the fin), a banana, and Indiana Jones. 🙂

These are hilarious!! Sadie’s pumpkin costume is perfect. Sometimes, I feel bad for dogs that are forced to wear embarrassing costumes, but only after I get a good laugh in first.

I think it’s so adorable when they have little costumes on.
    Now to decide which one!

SO fun!! I love Halloween and seeing dogs dressed up makes me crack up. Growing up, my mom always dressed up as the wicked witch of the west and made our dog her “flying monkey”.

I use to dress my dog up as a witch and she had the saddest eyes ever time the costume came out. Once she passed away I tried a few years later to get my cat to wear the hat part… didn’t go so well. So now I manage to get a shirt on his that says “some mummy loves me” it doesn’t last long though as cats DO NOT like to be dressed up.

I wanted to get Duke a banana costume since Squish was going as a monkey. But since my mom made the costume and kept it a surprise, so I wasn’t able to order a doggie banana suit in time. Instead we found a Superman costume for Duke. It was just a red cape and a blue chest plate with the “S” on it. We called him “SuperDuke!!”

I was actually just looking at pet costumes the other day too! We have two dogs or I guess still considered puppies.. Lily is 1 year and Jack is about 7 months old. Unfortunately we won’t be dressing up lily because after a really scary allergy attack she just had (they don’t know why or how it happened. Think some kind of bug bit her a few times. She swelled up like a balloon she had hives all over her body. Her eyes were so swollen she could barely open them!) but then a few days ago she hurt her leg and we found out yesterday it is a torn ACL :(. But jack is suchhh a cookie/treat lover he will stalk whoever he thinks has the cookies so I laughed when I saw this costume cause he totally is a Cookie Monster!!

Hahaha I love pet costumes so much! My dog is going as Yoda this year. The ears sit around the neck like a collar. Btw, if you ever want to speed up not so overnight oats, stick them in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. Does the trick!

We bought a costume for my little dog, but she flat out HATED it. She’d wiggle around on the ground trying to get it off until we had pity and took it off of her. She looked so cute in her little princess costume through! She had a crown and little booties along with pink ruffly dress 🙂

We have not YET dressed up our dogs for Halloween. I would love to get a halo and wings for Hana and horns and pitch fork for Jack! I think that would be so cute!!

When we had Axel our German Shepherd, I got him a t-shirt for Christmas that said “Give me a present or I’ll pee on the tree!” So cute and fitting because one year when he was a pup he actually peed on the tree!

She prances when she walks, so it looks like she’s strutting her stuff in her cheerleader outfit!! Sadie is adorable BTW! Have a great weekend! 🙂

I’m not sure what she is going to do with him this year. I think she is more excited that she actually has a baby to dress up this year!

I got my dog the shark costume for this year! One year we dressed our weiner dog up as a football. Last year because we have a baby now, she dressed up as a flower and he was a bumble bee. This year we are going for a sea theme and out daughter will be an octopus and Cody (our dog) will be a shark! He doesn’t like to be dressed up but he tolerates it!

We dressed our pup up in a pumpkin costume last year and I absolutely adored it, he looked SO cute! Now that we have adopted another little one, a girl, I kind of want to dress them up in matching costumes like Superwoman and Superman or something along those lines but haven’t had anything catch my eye yet.

We dress up Laverne as a lobster every year. It is sort of a joke in our family because I wore a lobster costume in 3rd grade and then my younger sister wore the same costume we she got big enough. It was an obvious choice that Laverne would be a lobster as well!

Seems cruel to stuff their bodies in goofy outfits. I’m not for it. A simple scarf is ok. Call me square maybe?

There are tons of poochies that Trick Or Treat w/their families in our neighborhood. We wrap treats for them. The x-large Milkbones or things that are easy to give. I put them in food safe cello bags w/Halloween decor. The parents really get a kick out it! Their smiles are rewarding.
