Halloweenie

October 19, 2010 by Julie 77 Comments

Clearly Halloween is right around the corner.

Last week I looked like a bumble bee, and today I look like the holiday itself.

Halloweenie Julie

I’ve had at least five people tell me I look very Halloweenie today.

I must admit that I felt like the epitome of Halloween when I got dressed this morning. If you wear orange and black in October you’re just asking for Halloween-related comments!

Lunch

Lunch today included leftovers from Sunday night’s dinner.

Though I didn’t blog about it, Ryan and I enjoyed rotisserie chicken and I used some of the leftover breast meat to create a BBQ chicken salad sandwich this afternoon.

BBQ Chicken Salad

To make the chicken salad, I combined:

  • 3 ounces pulled chicken
  • 1 tbsp. light Miracle Whip
  • 1 tbsp. BBQ sauce
  • 1 large handful broccoli slaw

I served the BBQ chicken salad on a Nature’s Own Whitewheat hot dog bun along with sliced green peppers.

Chicken Salad on a Hot Dog Bun

Tuesday Lunch

The other day Ryan and I were debating about something oh-so-serious: Tuna salad vs. chicken salad.

I’m a tuna salad girl, all the way! Ryan is a chicken salad boy.

Now it’s back to work until I meet my mom for my FINAL DRESS FITTING tonight!

After the horror of my first fitting, I’m crossing my fingers that this one goes off without a hitch.

I prefer neither, but I do love both chicken and tuna separately! I’m just not into mayo, unfortunately…but I do like tuna and chicken salad made with mustard and pickles. Yummy! Love your “Halloween-chic” attire! 🙂

If I HAD to chose, I would almost always pick chicken salad…unless it was from this one place that used to be near my old job…they had the most unbelievable tuna salad sandwichs on a thick pita that blew my mind away. Now I am craving one hardcore.

I’m not a fan of either because I really dislike mayonnaise but I recently tried hummus instead of mayo for egg salad and really enjoyed that so I might have to try it with chicken and tuna

You look so cute in your Halloween-esque outfit 🙂

As for your question of the day…tuna salad all the way. I do like both chicken and tuna salads but tuna is my all-time favorite. The flavor of the fish melds so well with the ingredients yet doesn’t become overshadowed by the other ingredients. Chicken in chicken salads can sometimes take a back seat to flavor.

Also, I love that you use the broccoli slaw in lots of things. When I first starting reading your blog, I was so excited to see you do the exact same thing I do sometimes: handful of broccoli slaw and low cal italian dressing. Yum!

Where do you get orange shorts?? Too cute. And it seems like your office has a relaxed dress code- how great!

I don’t have many ‘salads’ usually, but today I randomly had egg salad- it was pretty good! I also enjoy tuna!

Tuna all the way! so sooo good. The problem is the smell, so it doesn’t make too many work day appearances. Tuna sandwiches were a staple for me growing up.

P.S. Tonight I am making your BBQ meatloaf, so excited!

If I had to pick I’d go with chicken, because it’s a bit more versatile!

I cannot wear orange and blacktogether unless I am specifically dressing for Halloween. Same from green and red! Not gonna lie, I judge people who wear green and red together outside of December! 😀

    TUNA SALAD.
That chicken salad stuff doesn’t taste right to me. :\ If we’re doing tuna salad and chicken salad sandwiches at home for lunch, we always make a thing of each, because we each prefer something different. Although I think my dad will eat either one. 😛 But I can’t stand the chicken stuff. Regular chicken, yes please. Chicken salad sandwich, nothankyou. 🙂

I love tuna salad, but I have to vote chicken salad on this one because of my favorite sandwich served at my favorite restaurant. I’m not talking about the super mayo slathered chicken salad, but one made with GOAT CHEESE! Holy-YUM!

Here is the description on their menu:

House roasted chicken, red and green grapes, celery, carrots, and toasted almonds, blended with creamy goat cheese. Served on grilled cracked wheat bread.

    BEST. EVER.
