High Thai

March 21, 2013 by Julie 69 Comments

Last night I had plans to meet up with my friends Minda and Brett for dinner.

mai thai jacksonville

Minda and I were suitemates for several years in college and she is immersed in wedding planning at the moment. (You might remember when we met up and went bridesmaid dress shopping in December!) I met Brett through Minda in college (they’ve been friends since childhood) and it was great to see her again, too!

We met up a little after 6 p.m. at Mai Thai in Jacksonville. Earlier that day, I had a pretty fabulous speech-to-text fail surrounding these plans…

High Thai

So, so great.

When I arrived, I found Brett and Minda sipping on some hot green tea which sounded perfect. It was a little chilly and raining rather hard when I arrived and drinking tea in a cozy restaurant with friends was the perfect way to spend a dreary Wednesday night.

For dinner I ordered the Gang Keow Whan (green curry in coconut milk with mixed vegetables and jasmine rice).

Mai Thai Jacksonville

It was fantastic. The coconut milk made it extra creamy and the different spices they used in the curry were phenomenal. I need to find an awesome Thai place in Ocala!

We ended up hanging out for more than two hours and I loved every minute of it.

Breakfast

This morning I was up in the four o’clock hour. My dad had an early flight out of the Jacksonville airport and I said I’d drop him off which meant that we were awake at 4:20 a.m. Yikes!

I’m hoping that my early wake up time will make it easier for me to fall asleep on my evening flight to London and help me adjustment to the time change a little easier. 4:20 a.m. in Jacksonville is 8:20 a.m. in London, after all!

Once I got back from dropping my dad off at the airport, I hopped back into bed with my laptop (and Sadie) and worked until my morning appetite started talking to me.

Snug as a bug in a rug.

For breakfast, I made myself a yogurt bowl with vanilla Greek yogurt, dried fruit, Cheerios and a spoonful of almond butter.

I also ate a couple of handfuls of trail mix as I was assembling my yogurt bowl.

Time to get things rollin’!

Haha too funny about that text! Glad you had a great dinner – I love Thai food! I woke up this morning in the 4 o’clock hour as well, but not by choice. My eyes popped open and I couldn’t fall back to sleep after that. Hopefully a little nap during lunch or after work will help power me through!

You’re text to speech just made my morning! I’ve never subbed yogurt for milk with cereal and I think I should really get around to doing that stat. I usually avoid cereal because it’s not filling for me, but I bet with the Greek yogurt it would be.

I love Thai food, especially coconut milk curry! Best advice when you get to London is to not take a nap during the day. I always find that staying up all day and then going to bed at an early hour is the easiest way to adjust to the time change.

When I flew to London, I also flew overnight. I had trouble sleeping on the plane and landed around 9:30 AM. What helped me adjust was to basically just stay up all day until a normal bed time. After that, I was perfectly adjusted. It was even easier coming home.

I had a similar autocorrect accident this weekend. I was on my way to a friend’s dad’s surprise 50th birthday and let this one slip. And I quote “Hey I made a stop on the way, I am eating out your dad so you don’t waste the good surprise on me!” It was supposed to say waiting out your dad…d’oh! Needless to say my friend was dying when I got there and I hadn’t even noticed.

I love Thai food! Peanut butter and yogurt, though, is just too much for me. I love them both separately but together the textures are too much! I have no idea why I am sharing this with you but just Jun case anyone was wondering, there it is.

When I went to Scotland two years ago, I spent the week before adjusting my bed/wake up times to try to outsmart jet lag — the night before we left I went to bed at 7 p.m. and got up at 3 a.m.! I was sure this would guarantee that I’d sleep like a baby on the plane and be ready and rarin’ to go when we arrived in Scotland. I was wrong haha. Ohhh well! At least I got a run in before I spent all day on the plane? 😛
