Jello Arms

October 14, 2011 by Julie 61 Comments

Today’s workout made my arms feel like Jello!

I had Ryan take a few minutes to show me two different moves on the TRX and incorporated them into my upper body workout.

I did TRX bicep curls…

trx bicep curls

(Model is wearing only a sports bra. Oh the irony!)

And TRX tricep extensions…

trx triceps

(Source)

The stabilization required to do these moves definitely worked my arms out in a new way and I liked them a lot! I would love to incorporate the TRX into my workouts more often and plan to research more exercises to try and have Ryan show me a few more.

In the end my upper body workout included the following exercises:

  • Superset one: Push ups + Bicep curls
  • Superset two: Mac raises + TRX bicep curls
  • Superset three: TRX tricep extensions + Upright rows
  • Superset four: Overhead press + Lat pull downs
  • Superset five: Chest press + tricep extensions
  • Ryan’s awesome shoulder move

Breakfast

Today’s breakfast was a new take on a typical egg sandwich.

I topped a toasted whole wheat English muffin with Tribe Mediterranean Hummus, avocado slices and a fried egg.

I feel like this is a sandwich that would be a great breakfast, lunch or dinner sandwich. Multipurpose!

And now it’s time to make lunch! Lunchtime totally snuck up on me today and it feels kind of funny to be posting about breakfast when I’m really just thinking about my next meal.

Questions of the Morning

  • Have you ever tried using TRX straps? If not, do they intrigue you at all? If so, do you know of any specific exercises I should try?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I LOVE TRX classes. My shoulders have never been so defined as they are now. Also? you kinda get to feel a bit like a monkey. Which is fun because I like bananas.

I love TRX straps too. It’s awesome you can get such a great workout and work so many different muscles with such a small piece of equipment.

I always want to do the TRX straps but really don’t know what to do with them correctly so I’m afraid to try. Someday I’ll suck it up and make a fool of myself until I figure out what’s right : )

I’ve always wanted to use them, but they intimidate me. I feel like I need someone to show me how to use them, so i do not a) embarass myself extensively b) hurt myself by doing the exercises incorrectly.

But they look like they work a person out like no other way!

TRX is great! I think one of the most difficult exercises on it is you do a plank with your feet in the TRX (so they’re off the ground) & then you raise your bum so that you are in an upside down V position then back down to plank.

I took an 8 week TRX class it was amazing – you could put ur feet in straps too and do planks, pushups, pull your knees in and that will work ur hams. Also lean back and use your arms to pull your body up into into a V shape or kind of like ur body is coming into a Y. There are so many!!!

I haven’t tried TRX straps but I really like the idea of just using your own bodyweight…is that what this does? If so, I want to look into it! I have become a huge proponent of using our own mass/size as the “perfect” weight for exercise.

That sandwich looks really really good. I’m feeling creative this morning…hence my picnik ability on my post haha: http://www.navigatingnorth.com/2011/10/my-vault-secrets-secrets.html …and was wondering…have you ever made english muffins? I think it would be something fun to try…I bet it’s not easy though! Have a fun day!

Our gym has a thing called the Ring of Fire and has those straps for endless varieties of exercises. Once in a while, my trainer throws me in there. You can do some good leg work believe it or not. Holding on to those and doing a sort of speed skater move. Also, put your feet in the straps and do reverse crunches, bringing your legs in while in a sort of plank position. All kinds of things. TORTURE.

I LOVE trx… though I haven’t beenable to use them in quite a while since I am no longer close enough to my old trainer!

You can do great core workouts with the system too. Put yourself in a high plank and then put your feet into the straps. You can hold it there.. bring your knees into your chest, or swing both legs to the right, then back to center, then back to the left!

A personal trainer at my old gym was bored and gave me a one-on-one TRX session last year. I was so sore I could barely move for several DAYS after! Try a TRX plank (put your legs in the straps to keep your feet above the ground). Then pull your legs into your chest and back out again. INSANE.

I LOVE the TRX. Well, in a love/hate kind of way. I take a TRX based boot camp on Wednesdays, and it is so hard, but awesome! I would suggest doing 1 legged squats and all of your ab work on there.

We have aTRX room at my gym, but you cannot use the straps unless your taking a class or with a trainer!

The class is a great workout and is offered as a 30 or 60 minute session.

My favorite exercize is putting your feet in the straps and making a plank, then while staying in plank position tucking your knees up to your chest then moving them left, back to center, right 12 times! It really works you out and tests your core!

I took a TRX class once with my GRAND-FATHER at his gym last year, he brought me as his guess. My GRAND-FATHER was taking it twice a week! 🙂 I loved the class, but it was too much for my budget (the super expensive gym + the class) and the schedule was totally off. However, I have to say that my grand-father is a super hero to me!

Ha! Someone’s not still a little touchy about the sports bra spectacle/discussion from this morning, are they? 😉 That convo is long over but just wanted to add that the most important part of the gym is that you are there and not to let others’ demeanor/use of the gym get to you! I swear, half of the gyms out there are just alternatives to the bar scene so you can’t blame a gal for trying!

    Give these a go!
1 stick each foot in a handle (while sitting on the floor) Turn around in a plank and do A) mtn, climbers B) Pikes C) in a plank swing your hips side to side

    Also SQUATS!
Holding both handles, lean back as far as you can tap your bum on the floor and jump (air squats)

Loop the handles holding with right hand. facing wall open with left arm keeping feet parallel, squat and reach back behind you then come up reaching left arm up onto your toes (almost like a bow and arrow movement)–>this one is a little tough to explain..
I have a ton of movements for it!!
love! glad your liking them as well!
