Even though I’m always a little sad when a holiday weekend is over, I’m pretty sure my body is happy.
It gladly welcomes the return of healthy eats!
Now that I look at that image, my breakfast doesn’t really look that healthy. It kind of looks like a greasy diner egg sandwich, but no siree!
Breakfast this morning was a simple two-egg sandwich on a toasted whole wheat English muffin with muenster cheese and a bit of strawberry jelly.
On the side I sipped on a mug of Kahlúa.
Kahlúa coffee, that is.
Let me just say that sipping on a Kahlúa-flavored cup of coffee this morning made me want to party. Such a tease!
I snagged the sample pack of Kahlúa coffee from my parents’ pantry and actually liked it more than I thought I would! I figured a liqueur flavor might be a little weird in the morning, but I like Kahlúa and I like coffee, so it created a little party in my mouth.
Workout
Breakfast was enjoyed after an early workout. That 5 a.m. alarm was brutal this morning.
I completed a strength workout after tackling the same 30 minute incline treadmill workout that I did last Monday. It felt slightly less difficult this week, but still very challenging.
The rest of my day so far can be chalked up to sitting at the computer and typing away on some local freelance assignments. Fortunately the long weekend seems to have rejuvenated my writing mojo!
April Book Club
The winning book for the April Book Club with 47 percent of your votes is…
Believe it or not, this is the first time a book I voted for actually won as the selected book of the month!
I am so excited to read The Book Thief and am anxiously awaiting an email from my local library telling me that the person who currently checked out this book out has returned it. Read fast, my friend! I’m waiting!
your breakfast sammies always look soooo yummy!! love the sweet and salty combo with the jelly/eggs.
i had this breakfast sandwich combination the other day with sharp cheddar cheese instead! it was surprisngly delicious and 100% inspired by you! thanks i will be having it more often for sure!
read book thief ad it is soooo good! yall are really going to enjoy it!
I haven’t yet participated in your book club but I definitely need to read more! Maybe I’ll check this one out 🙂
Its such a great book – you all will love it and I look forward to the discussion!
I have that book under my bed – perfect time to start reading! 🙂
I am still yet to try this epic sandwich combo..even more tempted to now!!
Yay, I just started reading that book last night–totally by coincidence! First time I’ll be reading a book club book at the same time as all you guys, finally. 😀
Funny, I just started The Book Thief last week! The last few books you’ve read have been the ones I’ve just finished or am reading at the time…we must have ESP 😉
We have Kahlua K cups here- so delish! and so glad book thief won 🙂
Your Khalua coffee sounds delicious! I was just chatting with one of my co-workers about how amazing it would be if Cadbury partnered with Baileys to produce Baileys Creme Eggs at Easter….. could be dangerous! And Khalua would be a good filling too! 😉
Ooooo that Kahlua coffee sounds good! And I enjoyed workout A more this week because of the dropsets, I’d never done anything like that before!
Oh yum, I really want to try Kahlua-flavored coffee now! I’ve read The Book Thief before and really liked it, but I think I might actually re-read it for the Book Club this month 🙂
Yum… I haven’t had that coffee in over two years! I suppose I can’t complain since I’ve been spoiled with a boyfriend that works at Starbucks.
Anyways, I am also excited about this book. It’s been on my Nook for a few weeks but I hadn’t started it yet. Guess the time is now! 😉
I just downloaded the Book Thief on my Kindle this weekend and I’m only a little ways in, but it seems really good so far! It’s a book that’s been on my reading list for awhile now, so I’m excited that it’s this month’s pick! 🙂
Yum, I love Kahlua and I will definitely be trying that coffee!
Once I’m done with the Hunger Games trilogy, this may be next on the reading list.
Yay that was my pick for book club! That’s crazy that people never choose the one you do – I’ve found that I almost always choose the winning book!
Your breakfast sandwiches always look so good! I must try them. 🙂 Kahlua coffee sounds amazing!
That book is amazing. However, it’s most definitely DNRIP!!! Tears galore friends. (See Forever Young Adult for translation, http://www.foreveryoungadult.com/lexicon/)
You know you have an awesome meal when it looks like an unhealthy option but in reality is healthy! It does feel good to be back on track after eating anything and everything over the holidays! And yay for the winning book! That sounds fantastic!
If you send me your address I will mail you my copy. I always pass my books on to friends and I’ve been waiting to give this one to someone who hasn’t read it yet because I absolutely ADORE this book!!
Sweet! Can’t wait to read it!
You will LOVE The Book Thief. I teach middle school English, and I actually use excerpts from the novel to teach my kids about the importance of point of view. It’s fantastic!
Amazing book. Loved it.
Hey Julie!! I’m obsessed with your blog, just absolutely love it! Today is my birthday and I would love a shout out from you on Twitter..?! I definitely need to try jelly with my eggs, as you have it often and it is an intriguing combination! The coffee sounds delicious too, as do most things you make and eat! Question: Can anyone join your book club and if so, how does it work? When must we complete it by, etc? Thanks, love! <3
how exciting! happy birthday, ilana!
for the book club, anyone can join! you simply read the book and then on april 26 i’m going to post a review and discussion questions for everyone to discuss together in the comments section.
How are you feeling after the chiropractor’s adjustments? I have fairly intense hip pain (weak hip flexors) and I’m interested to know if it helped alleviate any of your mild discomfort. I think the chiropractor can be a bit pricey, so I’ll likely go the same route as you and look for a Groupon!
i know it sounds crazy, but i feel much better sleeping at night… i would often wake up w/ sore hips if i slept on my side for too long, but i haven’t noticed that since my visit. running felt basically the same to me… still a VERY dull pain… nothing really bothersome, but it’s still there.
HA! I love that you still read the physical books. It took me a long time to detox off of an actual book and only use my kindle but now I love it.
Good timing…I just finished the last of the hunger games. I’ll be downloading the Book Thief tonight.
My body is totally in agreement with yours–one day of eat whatever I want because it’s a holiday is delightful, but the next day it’s sooooo happy to have whole grains and fresh, not-covered-in-cream-of-something-soup vegetables and fruits haha.
I’m always intrigued by the muenster cheese and jelly combo because I love them both! I need to try it soon. 🙂
I felt the same way this morning! I almost went back to bed, but I knew I would feel better after a hard morning workout.
I’m also feeling full from the weekend’s chocolate fest, it’s great to get back to my routine!
That red maxi dress you features in your last post is gorgeous by the way!

The breakfast sandwich looks good, without the jelly. Can’t do the jelly/egg thing. However, for me that much protein, or something that heavy, would make me want to take a nap. NOT KIDDING! I’ve had stuff like that after a workout and promptly fell asleep. I do better with 1 scrambled egg with a touch of white cheddar powder and a large mug of “German Chocolate Cake” coffee.
I think it may have something to do with my low heart rate, so that when all the blood goes to the stomach to digest a a sandwich like that, there isn’t enough left to keep me awake. I am not a super skinny runner like most I see on blogs, but I’ve been a cardio freak for so many years that my resting heart rate, without my usual pot of coffee, is 40bpm. With coffee, it’s between 45-50bpm.
I had no idea that coffee existed! It sounds so good!
Hey Julie,
A few days ago you posted about training on the treadmill. I meant to comment and say I really appreciated that post. I live in frigid Alberta Canada and until last week have been running exclusively indoors. Saturday morning I made my debut run outside. It was still only 32f when I set out. I started running last September and signed up for my first 1/2 in May. I am so nervous. I plan to run outside more and more but it’s really hard with cold short days and 3 little kids. So thanks so much for the encouragement.
how exciting!!! good luck to you, natalie!
My body is definitely ready to get back into it’s usual routine too.The two (ahem … three) bowls of chocolate trifle I had in addition to everything else this weekend definitely sent it into a bit of sugar frenzy!
I read The Book Thief a couple of years ago, and I recommend it to everyone! Read with a box of tissues and be prepared to sob your eyes out.
I love the day after a holiday too! My body is usually ready to get back into the health of things! Easter goodies definitely got the best of me this year!
The Book Thief is a crazy book, in a good way! I read it last year and am excited to join in on the conversation about it in a few weeks!
I want your breakfast for my dinner!
I agree…. Monday mornings after a holiday are always tough, however, I feel my body THANKING me for finally putting some nutrients in it! 🙂
You’ll love The Book Thief! Right now my students are reading it for their communication arts class. I always tell them how jealous I am that they get to read such great books for school!
I could tell a story with the same title and a lot different ending!
Ive heard good things about book thief! I’m recovering from an injury right now and going through serious withdrawls. Guess its time for me to pick up a book!
I read The Book Thief last year. Just simply amazing!
Looking forward to reading The Book Thief. I love novels that are set during WWII!
I am so excited for this book club! I’ve never done it with you yet, but I saw Katie from Peace Love & Oats talking about last months, so I got eager to join for this month! 🙂
Can’t wait!!!
P.S. Love the kahlua morning coffee! That is funny, party in your mouth! ha

Hello! I have just recently stumbled onto your blog and I absolutely love it! I feel that I have a similar philosophy as you with fitness and healthy eating habits (and also the lack of natural talent with running but seriously loving it!) And I’m from the Tampa area so whenever you talk about Tampa/St. Pete… I’ve gotten pretty excited 🙂
I’m also pretty excited about The Book Thief. I’ve been wanting to read it for a while and just needed the motivation!
If I want to participate in the book club, do I just e-mail my post link to you? I have already started The Book Thief and I love it!
yes!! 🙂 by april 26, please. 🙂
